"He dropped the gun" Yeah, that's a plasma gun, you do NOT want to fire that continuously... or occasionally... or at all, if you can help it. Very unstable piece of tech. It looked like it was overheating so... yeah, I'd drop it too. Or better yet, throw it at the enemy.

This depends. You ussually have an invasion force of Imperial Guard with Mechanicus Skitarii/Servitors and Navy Armsmen bolstering them as reserves with either Imperial Assasins, Inqusitorial agents, some nobles private elite task force or a handful of Knight mechs solving all the ongoing issues of the invasion. Marines are called in if the planet has to either fall quickly or is a heavyily occupied world. In such cases you wouldn't see a battle company of 100 marines. Marines could drop in to bolster an invasion force in which case there will be a couple squads which is what we actually see in Astartes. If marines would have to actually frontline a planet, they'd get at least 2 companies with a lot of support from quality IG walking directly behind them to secure ground.

The correct term is "Adeptus Astartes". But among the average imperial citizen the Astartes are called Space Marines. They are the peak of human warfare. Genetically optimized and equiped with the finest armor and weapons available to a fighting force for the emperors holy will, the super warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are usually the spearhead in crisis situations that require quick reactions. In contrast to the Imperial Guard, the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are organized in independent groups that are usually only referred to as "Chapters". Since the emperor has a status as a divine being, the entire structure of the imperium is a religion in and of itself.

This might be a bit of a long one. An Astartes or Space Marine will be "recruited" when he is no older than 12. During the process of turning a boy into one of the Emperor's Avenging Angels he will be indoctrinated (read brainwashed) have multiple surgeries including (but not limited to) multiple brain surgeries, a second heart and third lung implanted,an organ that allows you to gain some of the memories of anyone or anything you eat and finally the Black Carapace. Which is where you peel the skin off and put a mesh where the skin was before putting the skin back. This allows the Astartes to essentially move as if his power armour was a second skin. Meaning that they can actually move faster in Their Armour then they can out of it. The true kicker being all this is supposed to be done without anesthetic of any kind(so fully conscious and no painkillers). It could be argued that a single chapter of 1000 Battle Brothers could conquer modern day Earth to give you some idea of how insanely powerful they are. They are also pretty much immortal until they die in battle.

So, Brother, wellcome to the Warhammer 40k Universe, the most grimdark of sci-fi rivaled only by the SCP, the Universe where there is only war, and memes :D The 5 guys, the main cast are a bunch of genetically engineered super soldiers, like Halo Spartans but on crack and steroids and modifications went much further and made them beyond reasonable. That's why they are able to move so fast while wheighing around half a ton. In fact they should be even faster, the author of this video was quiet conservative at estimating their abilities. They aren't that cautious because they have an important mission, judging by the guy in the hood that got his head punched off, he was a member of an Imperial Inquisition, which means that mission was an absolute top priority and that even Astartes might be expendable on it. The two guys with power shields, are psykers (read "space magicians", yeah it's complicated there are daemons in this Unverse also, so yeah), psychically sensitive individuals that source their power from a parallel hellish dimension called warp (which is filled with daemons and is hard to comprehend), which is also used as means of FTL in this Universe. The guy in the hood, an inquisitorial psyker was overhearing the conversation between the two spheres, which seemingly are a pair of an incredibly psychically strong aliens, who most likely started a rebellion on one of human worlds. Their dialogue goes like this: Spiked sphere: Who's here? I have failed. Caged sphere: We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch. Spiked sphere: You must return. Break your seal. Caged sphere: It's impossible. Spiked sphere: We will never survive. Caged sphere: You must. Take them! And the inquisitorial psyker gives a warning to the veteran sergeant, before getting possessed by the caged sphere, and gets rapidly terminated because possessions are usually ending up in huge catastrophies that at some point involve warp rifts and planet-wide daemon invasions. In the end the sphere tries to take the Astartes whith itself and escape through the warp (that colourful shot, that was that hellish dimension) but it gets attacked by something, probably a daemon, or a psychic backlash from another sphere being killed while possessing the inquisitorial psyker. The astartes where randomly thrown out of the warp on some unknown dead world with some eldritch giant corpses. This is the best animation on the subject, made by one guy, with some help. I would recommend you a whole lot of videos to better understand Warhammer: "Every single Warhammer 40k (WH40k) Faction Explained | Part 1" "Every single Warhammer 40k (WH40k) Faction Explained | Part 2" The two above are the easiest thing to watch to get a very general idea about WH40K and are quiet fun to react to. "Exploring Warhammer 40k: Creating a Space Marine" To better understand what the Astartes are. "THE EMPEROR OF MAN [1] The Rise of Humanity | WARHAMMER 40,000 Lore / History" "THE EMPEROR OF MAN [2] Heresy & The Imperium - WARHAMMER 40,000 Lore / History" The last two videos are to long, and feel more like an actual lecture to make a reaction to, but they are really insightful and help understand the very backstory of the Universe.

"I would ASSUME they're gonna be the good guys?" Oh my sweet summer child.... there are no good guys. Edit: The one thing you could relate too wasn't the reason those two set their bolters (the rifles) on the rail. They went full auto and held the barrel down against the railing. Think of all the other feats of strength and skill they did, then realize when those two started firing, they got pushed back several inches before pushing forward into the kickback. They did that to have a stable base so they COULD go full auto. Also, you commented on these guys not being cautious at all. Did you not notice the sheer ease with which they've ripped through all opposition? One guy has a cracked lens on his helmet, the other has a few small scorches on his armor. And from The God Emperor of Mankind himself: "They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear." They literally do not know fear. Fear is for mortals. The Men of the Adeptus Astartes can live hundreds, even thousands of years before feeling the slightest tell tale signs of age. The Horus Heresy began in the year 31st Millennium, 31,000s. Warhammer 40K happens, obviously, in the 41st Millennium, and there are Space Marines still alive that were part of the Heresy. Quite literally "Service Unto Death." And sometimes even not then. Sorry, I'm geeking out. Warhammer Lore is my weakness :B

As far as part 4 where he charges in and drops his weapon there's a few explanations. 1. Standard weaponry usually loses out to Psychic powers. Astartes know this and so we're forced to use alternative and more drastic tactics as they were in a rush. 2. He dropped his plasma pistol after firing it twice for a couple reasons I think. Firstly, Plasma weaponry (blue stuff, not or red lasers) is Extremely powerful, if two blasts of that pistol on close succession didn't bring him down, nothing in those Space Marines current arsenal would. Unfortunately I believe they overheat and become unusable pretty quickly, he dropped it to free up his off hand. 3. The cross-fire was primarily distraction and time-buying tactics. They're not worried about line of fire, they have decades of not centuries of experience and would never accidentally commit friendly fire in a relatively controlled scenario like this. They needed to attempt to keep the psychers distracted for as long as possible.

The Adeptus Astartes, otherwise known as the Space Marines of the Imperium of Man, are genetically enhanced super soldiers handpicked from childhood to join an elite fighting force dedicated to the safeguarding of mankind from the horrors of the galaxy within the 42nd Millenium. They have been sorted into subfactions known as Chapters, based upon the original geneseed, or DNA, of the 9 Loyalist Primarchs, the demigod founders of the 9 Space Marine Legions that stayed loyal to the Imperium during a cataclysmic era known as the Horus Heresy, but that’s a story for another day. These are the 9 Legions that stayed loyal to the Imperium and broken up into Chapters: The First - The Dark Angels: Represented by dark green armour and a winged longsword, they hunt their traitor brothers relentlessly until the end of time. They excel in all aspects of war and love plasma weaponry. Their Deathwing Veteran company wear bone white and their Ravenwing Fast Attack company wear black. The Fifth - The White Scars: Represented by their white and red armour and a lightning bolt, they are heavily influenced by the Mongols and are known for their use of fast vehicles such as bikes and land speeders. The Sixth - The Space Wolves: Represented by their blueish grey power armour and a wolf head, they are eternally afflicted by the Wulfen curse which turns them into savage beasts. They are CQC specialists influenced by the Vikings. The Seventh - The Imperial Fists: Represented by caution yellow power armour and a raised fist, they are defensive siege experts with an expertise in marksmanship and architectural fortifications. The Ninth - The Blood Angels: Represented by red power armour and a winged blood drip, they are brutal and unforgiving in their aerial shock assaults and are at constant risk of falling to the Black Rage, turning them into bloodthirsty beserkers. The Tenth - The Iron Hands: Represented by grimy black power armour and a mechanical gauntlet, they trudge slowly towards their opponents, tanking damage and hitting back with their own. They are stricken with a compulsion to replace all of their body parts with cybernetics. The Thirteenth - The Ultramarines: Represented by blue power armour and an upside down Omega symbol, they are a workhorse jack of all trades chapter who have managed to become the strongest thanks to poor writing. The Eighteenth - The Salamanders: Represented by green and black armour with a dragon head, they are heavily decorated with draconic trinkets like skulls and scales. They love flame weapons, blacksmithing and protecting the innocent. The Nineteenth - The Raven Guard: Represented by flat black power armour and a raven motif, they represent the more rational and logically minded individuals, using stealth, subterfuge, guerilla warfare and assassination.

The Adeptus Astartes or more commonly known as Space Marines, are basically the elite Special Forces of the Imperium in the Warhammer 40k universe. They're genetically & cybernetically enhanced super-soldiers with superhuman strenght, speed, agility, reflexes and intelligence. Don't be fooled by their bulky armor, they can move like Spiderman with it, because it's linked to their nervous system. It is said that: '' Something that big & bulky as a Space Marine, shouldn't normaly move that fast.'' They have 2 hearts, 3 lungs and over a dozen other extra organs, that give them their abillities (which are implanted in a painful and extremely dangerous procedure, most candidates don't survive it or turn into mutants.) They can turn off, part of their brain in order to be able to stay awake & fight for days, can breath in toxic atmospheres, can eat & digest food that would kill a normal human ( The Astartes of the Space Wolves brew a beverage called ''Fenrisian Ale'' that will literally melt your intestines if you drink it, for them it's like drinking Kraft Beer or something). They're are resilient af, don't feel pain and don't age like normal humans. Dante, the ''Chaptermaster'' (commander) of the Blood Angels is over 1,000 years old and still kicking ass, Marneus Calgar, the Chaptermaster of the Ultramarines, lost all 4 limps in battle. Not only did he survived, but he had them replaced with bionic limps and continues to fight and whoop ass. They're organised in ''Chapters'' of 1000 Astartes, which are basically fully equipped, autonomous armies, complete with their own fleets of battleships, armored land vehicles etc. Every Chapter has his own traditions, culture, colors, battlecry and even ''specialty'' for a specific type of warfare. For example, the Imperial Fists are experts in siege warfare & great engineers. The Ravenguard are experts in infiltration & guerilla warfare. The Space Wolves & Black Templars are experts for close quarter combat. The Salamanders favor incendiery weapons & are great weaponsmiths/armorers. The White Scars favor ''blitzkrieg'' tactics and mobillity. The Ultramarines are extremely tactical and properly the closest to modern day special forces. The Iron Hands use lots of armored vehicles & use lots of bionic implants. They're ''the Emperor's Angels of Death'' and if you ever face them in battle, prey to whatever god you worship, that they will kill you quick.

If you look closely those pillars around the valley are the same as the one he's standing on and the rest of his team are teleported to their own column. You can see the flashes on each and one of them falling to the valley floor. He's standing on a column that is a good 400' above the valley floor. That makes the closest corpse about a quarter mile away.

For me, what really sells Astartes for me is how well it sells the super _soldier_ aspect. They're not quipping or roaring in fury or rushing in for glory, everything is very, very professional. They work as a team and they approach situations tactically when necessary, such as when they attacked the psykers with mobile, multi-direction suppressing fire. You can tell that they've tailored their approach to suit their superhuman speed, strength, and accuracy, coupled with the durability of their armor. It's the lack of _hesitation_ that really sells it. They seem robotic and mechanical because this actually is just another day for them. It's their job and they've done it all (possibly literally) a million times. The only time they're caught off-guard is by the Spheres. Great video, it's always cool to see IRL experts weigh in on this.

It was all Erebus' fault anyway............ No wait! it was all the Emperors' fault for not telling anyone (particularly Magnus) about the warp and Chaos. @@kevinshort3943 No problem :) I could be wrong but i'm sure the book describes Magnus as stopping often on the journey and that he wasn't particularly rushed. Although that could be from my shitty memory for that particular 'scene' or the author not giving enough emphasis on Magnus' speed and urgency. That is true, but Magnus knew of Chaos at that point, that why he was going to big E in the first place! :P Also i'm pretty sure it's hinted Magnus has always know what Chaos and the Wrap is but big E told him to keep it to himself. Besides, the more who know of Chaos the stronger it gets. Ignorance is more than bliss in this case, its a sword, shield and armour. To be fair, there should be no blame, all are at fault. Big E for leaving The Crusade. Since his 'children' needed guidance and Horus just wasn't respected enough to have that influence. The Primarchs for their pettyness and easy suduction to anything/one who will advice them. The rest are pretty obvious. The problem with the 40K lore(not law-now you know :) ) is that it's written by hundreds of Authors over 30+ years and it's got no consistancy. Some great ideas are scrapped for shittier ones and the opposite is also true.

To clear up your question on how they move so easily. Yes the Armour is heavy. However it is literally part of their body. As aspirants the marines have many surgeries. The last one places an organ called the black carapace across their ribcage which bonds to the central nervous system. The armour then links directly into the ports on the carapace bonding with the nerves and creating a direct link between Marine and armour. The back pack is the power unit. The armour then acts as if it were a part of the limbs. They wish to move their arms? The muscles and the armour both move. A marine can move his armour whilst it is not powered but it is difficult for him to do so.

Your comment on the religious icon was spot on these guys are like part marine, part monk in a sense. The weapon he dropped in part 4 is a plasma pistol, they can overheat and explode in use. I assumed he dropped it to go back to his other weapon and so it wouldnt detonate on his hip. Can't wait for this guy to make more episodes feels like weve been waiting forever at this point.

18:50. From what I recall from the lore, they don't even need to be in this scenario... because literally, their helmets systems give them an "all clear" the immediate moment they enter a room... and they don't even have to be facing anyone or anything to find that out. If there were enemies in that room, I guarantee you, they'd literally start shooting into the darkness. And given they're Astartes, their armors systems would've automatically detected the enemy and with pin-point accuracy take any enemy out in a single shot. Going back to that part with all the friendly-fire? The shots were dead on when it comes to hitting the users of the dual laser cannon, but because of the shield in front of them they survived. How that scenario played out was essentially that the helmets systems detected those three people on the ridge, and he automatically fired 3 shots to kill them. When he found out it didn't stop the lasers, he immediately knew how to counter it and how to destroy it before the gunner had a chance to figure out what just happened before he blew up from what is essentially a very volatile explosion of plasma. 23:40. Yes, he's cybernetic. He's also served the military for 200 years. How so? The two silver dots on his temple. He is also a rank of Sergeant (I think). How so? The gold one right above the two silver ones. Soo... you can imagine (maybe not) 200 years of service, how long you must've lived before then.

He drops his gun as he is charging at the psykers, because that blue-glowing pistol is a "plasma-gun" which in 40k has a very limited fire rate and can overheat. Basically those Marines are wearing a modern MBTs amount of armour that is powered by a miniature fusion reactor. Said armour is connected directly to their minds and bodies so its as if it were a second skin, it will aim their weapons for them, it can effectively puts a Battlefield Management System inside their heads so they know where all their friendlies are in relation to them, the local terrain, where the bad dudes are, even how much ammo everyone has left. It let's them run at about 45mph/60kph for _hours_ at a time and sprint up to about 60mph/100kmh for short bursts. It protects them from poison gas, the vacuum and freezing temperatures of space, the pressure of the deep oceans, the heat of a volcano, and everything in between. They can see through walls, hear and smell sparrows fart from 5 miles away and might even be able to see it too. It ups their already stupidly fast reactions and multiplies their strength to the point where they can hold several tons one handed. Oh and they have 0.75 calibre battle rifles that fire high explosive armour piercing rocket grenades that detonate inside their targets and frequently use what are effectively chainsaws in the form of a sword because they know that watching your friends get butchered by an 8ft tall superhuman that is nearly impossible to kill for the average person is a way more effective weapon than just shooting everyone.
