Never underestimate GW's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and blame the fans for it. What's really sad is the original looked a lot better, as you could see it in 4k. The reuploaded version is great, but you miss out on a lot of little details and the artifacting kind of interferes with some of the action. Still, I'm glad to see you react to this. And a good reaction at that! I'm always glad to see a channel that actually reacts and interacts with the media they are sharing. Keep it up.

I believe that the "ball" the Astartes went onto the ship to get was a Warp Gate or something similar. The Inquisitor had a second one back on their ship that was locked up and used the spikes that the Space Marines jabbed into the other one as a way to jack into/listen in on the communication between the two Warp entities. Unfortunately, his concentration faltered a brief moment, which allowed him to get possessed and led to the the Marines watching over him to terminate him

The sound design and the music is so well done. There's an insane amount of detail in this work. All of the big shots that their armor takes persist. To the point where you can tell individual squad members by their battle damage. "Oh, that's one of the guys that got hit in the shoulder by the '.50 cal'".

This short-film has such an incredible rhythm to it, if you know even a LITTLE about cinematography and editing you'll know that this is a master-class level display of it. How the camera moves coupled with the sometimes drum-like editing is just stellar. And the sound-design too??? Like, incredible all around. He even put a doppler-effect on some bolter-rounds going down a corridor. He could've easily just had the gun go BANG BANG and nothing more but chose to actually let us hear the rounds fly away from "us" *BWEOOM-BWEOOM*

And I like how just by very subtle body language you can tell their exact emotion in the moment. When they’re going in for the knife kill on the psykers, there’s no remorse, just pure commitment and emotionless intent to kill. Then when the guy gets caught and starts to lose control of his body, you can feel him going “Ah shit, this isn’t good.”

Personal side note, one of the funniest things is Arch Warhammer being among the first to go, "I found in lore material that matches this it MUST be the Uvathe!" The "creator" outright refutes this going "its not the Uvathe" though he also had to admit he didn't know of this particular lore's existence when he made Astartes, which only made the Uvathe theory that much creepier in its parallel irony.

If you want a quick crash course into 40k factions, i'm sure people have already mentioned Bricky's 'every single warhammer faction explained', it's two parts long but they're both 50-60 minutes long so a lot of people break them up into half. It is an excellent starting point because there are a tonne of different factions as you already know.

As others recommended, helsreach is a must watch. Richard Boylan, the creator, also was hired by games workshop and was a big part of the angels of death series on warhammer plus which is quite good. As far as lore videos, like others recommended brickys video is a great introduction to all the playable races/factions and its a pretty entertaining video. My go to for deep lore videos though is leutin09. If you watch parts 1 and 2 of his emperor of man series, you'll be an adept at imperial lore. There's many other lore channels such as weshammer, major kill, oculus imperia, baldermort etc. Leutin is my favorite and he has many videos but check out some others. You may relate more to another creator.

If I had to guess, that inquisitor was part of Ordo Machinum, and they oversee the operations of Adeptus Mechanicus, especially to make sure that alien tech doesn't inadvertently interfere with or take over imperial machines. It's not a stretch to believe some of them can interface with Mechanicus constructs in the same way as tech priests and tech marines. I'm not super familiar with this order, or the Astartes chapter in this fan work - although it looks like they have some kind of stylized Omnissiah insignia on their pauldron, so they are probably involved with the operations of the Adeptus Mechanicus in some way.

Watch Bricky's intro into 40k lore. You will be amused, you will learn, and you will gain views. Right now 40K seems kind of like the "Eminem of" fictional settings. When a streamer or reactor posts a video related to either, Stans and 40K nerds like me come crawling out of the woodwork. Also, Helsreach. Fan made video series that uses portions of the audiobook for the novel of the same name. One of the most widely-loved 40k novels already, the fan series isn't as beautiful as Astartes, but the cinematography and sound design are absolutely killer like Astartes.

The general consensus it these guys are using Yu'vath psyker tech, and the sphere is an actual Yu'vath psyker soul waiting for them to build it a body. The conversation the inquisitor over hears the one far off tells the one on the ship to 'break his seal' and he responds he won't survive. He grabs the Astartes to use as shields in the Warp but something kills it anyway. The Yu'vath are technically extinct by 40k, they overused psyker based tech copied from Old One designs but lacked the controls of the Eldar. They fell to Chaos, but many sealed themselves inside their tech so their souls were protected from being taken. The image we see just before they get pulled in looks like the Yu'vath description.

Astartes was made by Syama Pederson The armored warriors in black are called "adpetus astartes" (aka astartes or space marines) who are religious super-human zealots in the "Imperium of Man", an interstellar human theocratic feudal autocracy feudal tribute empire, in the fictional 40K Warhammer universe. They come in many different varieties (14:05) broken up into "chapters" or units of a thousand astartes (with exceptions) with their own unique lore and characteristics. The black astartes belong to the "Retributor" chapter (1:50) which is Pederson's own creation. The story portrayed as well as the alien faction the astartes face is Pederson's own creation. The year is 482 in the 39th millennium, the two orbs seen belong to unnamed alien race who, along with their human allies, were leaders in the "Argosa uprisings" which is another event of Pederson's own creation. It's unclear how big the Argosa uprising was, but in 40K uprisings can range from a single planet, to a solar system, multiple solar systems, or galaxy wide. In any case they have been defeated , "checked", and the astartes are hunting down their remaining forces.

that was an inquisitor tech priest. The Orb says: “Brother, we have all failed. The Astartes denied our touch. You must return, break your seals. You must take them” the priest says recall them immediatly(then hes possessed) and it’s speaking to the orb the Retributors jammed those spikes into. They are some kind of warp entities, and it is believed that the psykers aren’t organic beings, but machines being controlled by the orbs. And as to the Captain and Sargent killing the inquisitor, he became possessed, his soul went to the warp and a daemon took its place. Daemonhosts are very dangerous, and once they killed him, they had to destroy his body. Just because you kill someone after they become possessed, you are not safe from daemons still being able to use the body. just incase you couldnt hear it clearly

The xenos in the spheres were controlling the rebels, once they realized the game was up they pulled the astartes in, likely pulled them into the Warp, something shot the xeno holding the astartes team, and they were shot back out of the Warp again, to a place unspecified, possibly where the xenos came from, as one of the statues was seen in the vision the Inquisitor had. That's what I could gather from it.

Not just fan made graphics.. graphics and story is made by 1 guy.. that is the most impressive part.. Multiple years to finish this, but just the sheer amount of effort to create short-movie, alone.. (he did have some help but not with graphics/animation or story)

One thing i think the creator did a poor job of is show that there were 2 orbs. The Astartes had one of them on their Command vessel but when the Psyker spied on them talking to eachother and you see them as blue orbs in space you can see the 2nd orb in the distance but its easily missed as its quite a bit way and there are other blue orbs. I missed it the first few times i saw this series, the creator should have chosen a different color cause ive seen alot of reactors thinking one part is a flashback because its not clear that its 2 orbs.

@@Argumemnon they only have a chance to blow up when they are set to supercharge. Normal firing doesn't do that. Also you are citing a rule mechanic to counter both rule book and novel cannon that the weapons are sacred. They also have a magnetic attachment instead of dropping he could have just mag locked it to his leg. There is no reason for a space marine to drop a plasma pistol in this situation.

the astartes are the posterboys of the warhammer series, true, but i have to admit, i admire the imperial guard more, you have to have balls the size of a fortress monastery to take whats essentially a supercharged flashlight (lasgun) and fight necrons, deamons, and traitor marines

To be honest, Games Workshop hired up on because it was either he allowed them to hire him or they would shut him down. I've been blackpilled on GW when it comes to fan animators. A lot of these guys made way more money working for themselves than they will with GW. But GW uses the threat of legal action as a way to get them to submit.

being honest, the fans asked for this on all the astartes videos and on everyone's reaction to it the comments were something like "GW hire this guy!!", so they actually do and now theyre upset about it? if the fans knew GW's track record for fan made content they should've supported his patron or boycott GW until they are more fair.

The "orbs" are Yu'Vath, a psychic race actively hunted to extinction levels by the Imperium. Or more precisely, the being INSIDE the orb is a Yu'Vath. The captured orb tells the ship orb that their insurrection has failed and that they must escape. The Yu'Vath attempts to take the Marine squad with it; only the Inquisitor, being the Chad he is, gives his life and soul to literally destroy the Yu'Vath in the warp with his own soul.(the black shadow that explodes the Yu'Vath is the Inquisitor, you can see him gathering his energy at the beginning of the psychic scan) "Even in death, I still serve"

Wrong on both. Those aren’t Yu’Vath. They’re some other smaller xeno race made up by the creator. And the Orb alien is attacked by predator warp entity, not the Inquisitor (you can see another one stalking around in the background.) The Inquisitor was dead and gone by that point. Both confirmed by the creator in an AMA.

if i was the original creator, i would never sign off on letting a game company take away my hard work under copyright bullsh!+ as a condition for hiring me, especially since it was paid for entirely by donations and not any kind of sale. no chance m8, i'd rather remain freelance. every artist or animator worth their salt knows that doing something like that allows the corpos to take all your good ideas away from you for free and they'll just toss you aside when you've been creatively drained, the cost is too great. the psychological damage, even worse. my dean literally told me to keep my best ideas to myself and away from any professors or companies, half of the reason our animation professors even work in our college is to steal ideas from bright young creatives to further their own stagnated careers, and they will steal every good idea you have to do it. there is a rule in the college that every artwork you produce as a student is instantly the property of the professor - with the excuse being *"to better help market you to big sponsor companies".* but the reality couldn't be further from the truth, one of my paintings sold at an exhibit for 11,500 usd (this could pay my rent for a year), and all of the proceeds went to my crook of a professor... while all i got was worthless "recognition" from a bunch of faceless exec's. one might argue that i wouldn't even have a chance to sell the painting if not for her, but see herein lies the rub. she had it exhibited in a publicly accessible open art forum, a coop of artists that sponsor these events every 6 months for free. yup, free. the mall owners literally pay them to host exhibits in their malls to elevate their status and bring in investors for their nearby condominium projects, the highest bidder gets the first dibs and all artworks are included in the exhibit. 100% of the earnings from sales and auctions go to the owner of the artwork, so i could have done it myself without any help. she had no "connections" to speak of, they just happened to be there. the best thing to do is to develop your good ideas yourself behind closed doors even as a simple concept or novelization, never allow the big companies to have it for free, if they want it they will have to pay dearly for it. you have to be a very shrewd and unforgiving businessman/woman if you want to make a lot without losing a lot, most artists dont even realize this and tend to settle for whatever price is given to them, only to years later realize how much they were actually worth. also its not an IP infringement to create fan art, its only an infringement if it is commercialized. the fact that all of his proceeds came from donations means that they had no legal right to threaten him. but he likely had no legal knowledge regarding it which is why he caved in without a fight, this would never have floated in court. edit: for anyone wondering what my specialty is... i originally started with traditional art, pencil, charcoal, painting. and when google sketchup came out i dabbled in 3d animation, then found paintoolsai (and cracked adobe cs6 bc fuq adobe) and did some digital art as well, very informally self taught with only formal knowledge being in traditional art bc my mom has dozens of books about it (shes an artist who became a dentist). i also know a lot of law bc surprise surprise, having a dental clinic with a famous dentist attracts a lot of insects (vexatious/professional litigants) who want to sue us for anything they can get, luckily for us our justice system (not US) never gives these idiots the time of day. my first formal education into digital and 3d art started in college (which was bad bc the professors apparently expect students to already have a firm grasp of how to use these very expensive programs that 99.99% of my countrymen cant hope to afford), despite this i absorbed my studies into digital & 3d art like a sponge since i already had prior similar knowledge from traditional & 3d art, they say learning digital art after becoming a professional at traditional art is extremely difficult, but honestly the theory was virtually the same... i just had to retrain my hands and hand-eye coordination to get used to a drawing tablet instead of a sketchpad.
