I have tattooed police officers with full sleeves it varies from state to state/ city to city really.
I served 8 years in the corps and I do not agree with the 3 tattoo rule.when I got out of boot camp in 1984,i saw several marines with tattoos all over there bodies and it did not affect there performance.i have 6 tattoos and I got them all while I was in.tattoos are a marine corps tradition,thank you

I went through boot in '82 and we had a recruit whose arms were all tattooed out, we called him the tattoo man...he even was a sentry on camp Hansen, Oki back in '83.

Speak for yourself, I did 6 years in the Marine Corps and now I'm 34 still no tattoos. No it's not a tradition, it's an excuse to get tattoos and we all don't do it.
They should allow the Marine Corp's Official Emblem at least.
Sgt Lewis looks like Vin Diesel lol

The Corps should just mirror the Navy tattoo policy. One of the best instructors I ever had HM1 (FMF) Neic (I think that's how you spell his last name, it's been a while) was covered. Sleeves on both arms, hands, neck, etc. Still spent nearly 20 years in the FMF and did a damn fine job. Although I only have one tattoo myself, and probably won't get anymore, I don't see the problem so as long as they're tasteful. It's a Naval/Marine Corps tradition.

Dane Kunes I’ve been Navy for 25 year. We opened up the policy several years ago and I hate it! I have several tattoos but allowing them on the hands? That just looks trashy....have funny on the fryelator when you get out.
@EzraB123

@@Reaghansdad1 Lmao I only have 2. One on my ribs and one on my chest, neither are visible when I put on a t shirt and that was intentional. I agree with you. I think it looks trashy. But it's not my business. And someone having a hand tattoo is not a good indicator if they are a good sailor. There are several Marines alive today because of that corpsman.
@Reaghansdad1

Dane Kunes ok. I wasn’t saying it in jest.
because of my quarter sleeve that covers the majority of my forearm all though far from my wrist, and in noway offensive, I will never be able to be a marine. I do not regret my tattoos now nor will I ever. I am just disappointed, that because of some simple art on my skin I cant achieve my dream.

***** okay dont get me wrong, i see where yall are coming from.But yall still dont know what the deal was. I was a poolee through my senior year of highschool (im not saying that means shit because i know it doesnt) but about a month before i graduated i tried to contact my recruiter about some medical records i had to send in for a minor elbow surgery. I found out i had to apply for a waiver, so I waited two months with no word from anyone only to find out my recruiter bailed.The new recruiter told me "huh. must not have been accepted". so i figured i wasnt elligible for military service. i went to college and got tattoos. Bailed out of college and went back into a recruiters office just to see what i could do. marines wouldnt look at me with my tattoos, as a matter of fact at that time nobody would look at me aside from Coast guard. I did find out talking to an Army recruiter my elbow wouldnt be an issue atleast at that time. Went back to college, currently work in Law Enforcement. Which is where i wanted to end up, The day the Marines may change their tattoo policy is the day I walk back in unless im old as shit by then

@SIurm Thanks for the response man! I dont have anything on my palms, or neck. Nothing would be showing through the uniform. However, i do have a bit of stuff on my forearms. You might be right about the Army, because when i was looking more into it they cleared me on the tattoos and i was good to go. So yeah, nothing on the neck or the palms. I just wasn't sure what excessive meant to them.
@racer83racing Yeah, perhaps. I guess it'll all depend on the recruiter. The Army cleared me a few years back. I dont have anything below the wrists or anything. But i guess it also depends on the recruit, and how serious he is about it
Thanks alot for answering that
God Bless All Marine's..Thank You All For Your Wonderful Services.🇺🇸😇🇺🇸
does it extend beyond where a normal tshirt would go?
i have a west side tattoo covering my chest but its not noticeable when i were a shirt,am i legable for the marines?
"other type of feeling against them" lol you got that right Semper Fi
I want to be a Marine and enlist in MARSOC. Would a classic EAG be acceptable on my upper left arm? I would most likely get it after a little while in the Corps.
well i wasn't planning on becoming an officer so i don't entirely have to worry about it but i do have one tattoo on my left forearm and i still worry about whether or not it will get in the way.
@whothaplaya And yes my body does scar very easily, as seen when I got the tattoo.
Yup, one of the first things my OSO asked was if I had tatoos which seems a little ridiculous to me. Once im done serving however im going to get the globe and anchor on my left pec
@AshleyCalicotoast i suggest you start doing cardio and strength workouts so you will be prepared for PT
I just went to a recruitment center yesterday, ive got a tattoo on the left side of my chest and they said its a 50/50 chance to get in because less than a centimeter of it touches my collar bone, its not seen if i wear a shirt, but i am very nervous to see how the judgment will go
@SIurm Hah! Thats awesome! I'm glad you've replied to me with this information! I guess i have to come up with a reason of why i got them. Damn childhood lol. I really appreciate all your help and advice my friend! Thanks a ton!
if i have a tattoo on my back and i had it screened by an officer of the united states marine corps, it was approved, would it affect my eligiblility to become an officer? it is not visible while wearing pt gear.
I can't wait to join only three more years any advice?
@copilot7777 i see ur point but in america u are free to do wat u want but follow the rules and laws
I'm thinking of getting "semper fiddlies" on my upper back right underneath my neck but wont be visible when I wear PT gear

I have the word STIGMA in old English across my collar bones. It was an invigorating experience LOL
so guys i can't join because i have a sleeve tattoo !? please tell me i can join
@lvrpatriot01 it isn't about fear.
Well since they all wear rolled selves now does it matter?
In 1980 I caused a real controversy in the MC... I was the first woman in the corps with neck AND hand tattoos and made it rough for you all. LOL Sorry guys. Did they nut up when I did it OH HAILS YES! They tried to court martial but couldn't because that guys had them and there were no regs at that point.! I HAD NO idea what I had done to myself and I lived with it now 60 years. As a tattooist I refused to do faces and hands unless you were already marked. I didn't want to do to someone what was done by me to me. IT IS a rough life no matter how stellar you are they only see those marks. Funny stigma also means tattoo... as well as a mark you can't avoid affecting you..
@FutureDevilDog119 Lol you spelled his last name wrong. And I love his show
@Kapo465 I was in the AF; they told me (when i was in) that i could get in trouble for getting a sunburn LOL, but i think that with the critical job fields (they are desperate for people for certain jobs) you might not have a problem and the air force special forces guys have tatts so i don't know........
You can brand yourself like a animal. Just don't even think about a law enforcement career, or any advance corporate position. The public perception on any tattoos is still negative.
@ravencove8538

That's TOTALLY untrue I have tattooed MANY heavily tattooed law enforcement officers.
@sonnyd321 Or you could get it removed. If anything they will be making the tattoo policy stricter.
United State's Marine's Thank You all for Your Wonderful Services..🇺🇸🌎🌍🌏🇺🇸🇬🇧
Height and weight requirements for the Marines...
@Kapo465 oh well if you dont have any palm/neck tats your good you can enlist in the marines, only problem is your gunna have to get all your tats cleared, why did you get the tattoos on your forearm? what does it mean to you? etc etc you cant just say "i thought it looked cool" because i already tried lmao. your gunna have to get photographed in dress clothes, PT uniform, and short sleeved dress shirt its really a pain in the ass tbh but its a test to see how committed you are to enlisting
"Semper fidelis" I ment srry for the misspelling
Coming from a former Marine Captain that is tattooed, the policy is garbage. Ink has no bearing on the professionalism or combat effectiveness of a Marine. Poster Boy or War Fighter. The Marine Corps has chosen poster boy.
It’s because of the Marine Corps having the lowest retention rate of all the branches
Hey! You have both top comments! Why don't you share with people?
while i do agree with your point the marines do uphold a very strict uniformity and professional look
yo i got a tattoo on my chest going from shoulder to shoulder .. its aint gang related or anything .. you think they'll let me in ??
@whothaplaya Removing it is not an option in my life. There are many reasons why, but I'll keep it at two: 1. it's a part of me and my being. 2. I have a high chance of scarring. The scarring is the biggest concern of them all, they deny any person with huge scarring. So I'm screwed either way I think about it. :(
eligibility with a hard g?
Id like to think it has something to do with disipline, but more than likely not. When i was younger i thought that a tatoo could show through things if you were trying to hide or something lol.
Been waiting on a tattoo waiver for a few months now, i hope it passes and soon, but my advice to anyone trying to join that wants to get tattoos, dont get them until your in or have gotten in and are done with your service.
Speaking for myself, I never understood the obsession with tattoos! Wait till you've put your time in, then get a tattoo on either arm specifying that you served in the Marine Corp, and the years you served. I'm not one for filling my arms or other parts of my body with tattoos!
thats commitment that the marine corps wants. not every can be a marine its tough they dont just let anybody in. trust me i knnow
You sure CAN have one IN your wrist just make sure to never get one ON your wrist where it is visible and you're golden.
I love watching tattoo shows. But I have no tattoos. I've designed full back pieces for myself. But I have no tattoos. I think tattoos should be called mistakes. And the goal is to not make too big a mistake. There are too many trade-offs: - spend a lot of money and time on cool art work? It will all blend together in a few years. - want your message visible? Some won't like it. - want your tattoos invisible to most? Then why get them?
I'm gonna get a bald eagle tattooed on my face
@shtrnd41 Because of this tattoo policy I can (almost) never become a US Marine. I have TWO tattoos; one shoulder and one on the forearm. Because my forearm tattoo is bigger than my hand, I am instantly denied ever becoming a Marine. :( I guess I can either wait for the them to change their policy or join the Army/National Guard (yuck).
The arm tattoos shouldn't matter since we're going sleeves down anyway..
not a problem good luck if you do happen to join the marines
you can join, but you'd never be able to become an officer, like a warrant officer or lieutenant, captain ect, so in other words if you want to enlist in service as a career then having or getting a tattoo will ruin those plans
Hey man. Your tattoo sounds like it is almost exactly the same dimensions as mine. I am getting my answer from MCRC next week says my recruiter. If you can, message me. I have a couple of questions and perhaps we can compare what our recruiters have said.
anything below your wrist so like on your hand.
tattoos is a personal thing ..its stupid that other ppl have a problem about tattoos ..its only ink its not dangerous.. unless you tatt ur eyeball then its jst fucked up
yes because the P.T and drill uniforms will cover it
Last time I checked the Marine Corps was about winning wars, not a fucking fashion show. Some of the best Marines I have ever known have been covered in ink.

The Marines want to have an image of being professional. Being covered in tattoos destroys that image.
They always have mattered,the policy is,nt new.The Corps does'nt want a comic book.
They are also professionals, its an image to keep up.
I was an 0311 in 1949-the tattoo policy in the video was in effect then.You say "they are risking their lives".What the fuck do you think the Marine Corps hired them to do.
Remember, politics are everywhere, especially entities ran by citizen taxes. You answer to the public, not the other way around.
so your basically saying its a sin to have a tattoo? i doubt? iv asked two preachers and they both said its not
@chatanwarrior thats really cute
i wanted to join till i read the policy n i know im screwed wanted to follow in footsteps of family but tats mean i cant possibly be a good Marine even though General Mattis is sleeved up
i think if you were a marine, no matter what, you should at least get the respect to have body art and also be able to get a job at the same time, marines are willing to pay the ultamate price, in return they deserve such rights.
@Kapo465 well i can tell you that you cant become a marine anymore if you have anything on your palms or neck your automatically DQ'd now. you might be able to get into the ARMY but you will have to move fast the military is cutting down hard and tattoos are one of the ways their doing so. but i saw a young guy in the PX the other day with a Tattoo on his neck and he was army so their still might be hope for you
@AshleyCalicotoast dont do it! haha
that statement has nothing to do with this video.
@MrCatwaffles untill you get a tattoo saying burn the village eat the babies. i dont think there should be a tattoo policy but, i do think marines should be better educated on why not to cover you self.
Hahah I fucking love that character
that sergeant looks pretty.
You wouldn't put stickers on a first class Cadillac, to why mutilate a perfectly good healthy body. It looks okay on kids but in later years you look a bit daft!
Offensive tattoos I understand. Anti-American, or sponsoring tattoos are all understandable. But tattoos in general tell a story, and are more than what people seem to think as pointless, and satanic. This has absolutely no effect on a soldiers ability to fight. And the argument about hindering civilian employment after the corps shouldn't be a case at all. Marines are tough, and especially for infantry marines to survive battle against the world's worst, and need someone to babysit them with getting a job? They can take care of themselves. Beyond the Corps it's especially their decision....
@redsfan293 I hope i can join I want very badly to become a Force Recon Marine.
man fuck that shit man, i am going into the SF
@copilot7777 the same thing can be said about peircings so your calling every girl with peirced ears ignorant. good think before u speak
@xxtweetheartxx Yes that's me, the Marine that found God through a tazer
when i jion the corp once i get out there is no fuckin way i would become a cop
Yeah but thats a book.

@kritter7463 it's true, no body really gives a shit in the grunts :D
theres these things called height and weight standards. Cops are really really low
So I guess "born to kill" is out of the question.
Best you go to the Army,you would,nt make it past the receiving barracks with that attitude.
what about a tattoo on te chest ...marine corp emblem
So If you have any tattoo you are unable to become an officer??
Looks like a LCPL JROTC cadet to me, LOL Baby face
Can't have a tattoo 2 inches above the wrist
Man, this is fucking bullshit!! So, i cant even go in huh? I only have my initials on the top forearm and a spider on the back of the saluting arm. And one on the other hand.. Does that fuck me over? I went to the Army recruit a whiiiiiile ago, and i was cleared. But im not sure how this work anymore. I'd really like to find about AF.
All through your USMC carer they pound into your brain that you are the most meanest, toughest and dangerous creature God has placed onto this earth and that you can handle any situation that arises to the best of your ability. But they have a issue with tattoos? WOw.
Youu were'nt listening.
Military lies are harmful to actual veterans - The Denver Post www.denverpost.com/2010/01/26/military-lies-are... Actor Brian Dennehy’s lying is very different. According to B.G. Burkett’s book “Stolen Valor,” for whom the act is named, Dennehy was a Marine from 1959 to 1963 but claimed he was in Vietnam and wounded in combat. In 1998, he finally told a newspaper, “I lied about serving in Vietnam...
