Drill Instructor Makes Marines

Ойын-сауық

The life of a Marine Corps drill instructor may seem glorious to some, but it's hard work that requires tremendous dedication and long hours with the recruits. Staff Sgt. Phil Grondin went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island to highlight one drill instructor who says it's all worth it.

I am highly considering joining the Marine Corps... I had my mind set on the Air Force until I talked to a Marine Corps recruiter today. I am looking to be an aircraft mechanic. Obviously at first thought the Air Force would be a great choice. My eyes were opened today about the prestige of being a marine and what that is worth after serving when I go to work as a civillian.

boot camp will be the toughest thing in the world mentally. but you can do it. i went may 2, 2011, the heat was about 120 every day. you just got to think, chow, fuck time, training, chow mail, free time. (youll understand when your there) take it one day at a time, sound off, and do everything with speed volume and intensity. now im a LCpl and never regretting anything that ive done

@AshleyCalicotoast I ship out to basic in January, my recommendation to anyone so far is to PT like no one's business. No such thing as too "fit" for the Corps! When you join up make sure that one of the recruiting offices around you offers a Physical Training program. In mine we go in for 2 hrs every tuesday and thursday to workout. My recruiter was a Drill Instructor so its nice to prepare

@dardo1201 Boot camp is what makes Marines, its to transform you from a civilian to a basic trained Marine. After boot you would report to your respective training. For non infantry you go to MCT and then MOS training. For infantry you do SOI and then ITB. Every Marine must endure the 13 weeks of fun in the sun. Its what makes the Corps. Hope this helped

@john doe My advice bud, don't be affraid of switching recruiters.. Don't be affraid to tell him you want to change recruiters.. My take is, if you don't feel comfortable with your recruiter then there is probably a reason. I suggest you get another recruiter that you feel comfortable with and work out your possible future in the Corps. Good luck to you bro, hell I remember being in your position and now I am already about to promote to Lance Corporal here in about 13 days

@thecolaratlady I believe the training is 8 weeks and you can remain a D I well into your 40's. Because D I rotate shifts, you don't spend as much time away from family as you might think, plus most families live on base so no big deal. One thing you will have to do is remain in tip top shape because you have to do everything the recruit does. I don't think I'd be a good D I because I would laugh too much and you can NEVER laugh.
