    The Taxi cast is iconic. An amazing ensemble of top top notch actors. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, we were blessed to experience them. Andy Kaufmann was an entertainment, comic genius, so far above his audience.

    In 2006 scientists identified a condition they’ve named Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM). It is extremely rare. People with this condition can instantly remember and recall, from a young age, any and every day of their lives in detail. To date less than 100 people in the world have been recognized as having this condition. Marilu Henner is one of these people. She and others have been and continue to be studied by researchers and experts in the field of memory. What these scientists learn could have positive effects on the treatment of Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments.

    If you're wondering why Dave seems awkward at first, it's because he is. This is from the first year of the show. Several months earlier, he was often quite awkward, and the shows were sometimes cringy. It got mixed reviews and was almost cancelled. But that's when he got better, because, being convinced that the show would be cancelled, he ceased to care anymore and that's when he started to just be himself. I myself thought the show was stupid at first and didn't watch it, but after the first year it quickly grew on me and became one of my all-time favorites.

    @@dongiller I really wish I did, but I lived through that era and remember how underwhelming the show was initially and how, out of nowhere, it suddenly got hugely better. I also remember an interview I saw with him where he talks about this. But I haven't found it, and I tried to confirm when it was the show was nearly cancelled and came up empty. I suppose it's possible that he just saw the writing on the wall and knew the show was bound to get cancelled, and that's when he ceased to care and then got good. Mind you, I haven't exhaustively tried to confirm my statements, just a fairly quick search. (If my writing seems a bit odd, it's because I'm [maybe more than just] a little drunk.)

    Fair enough. My sense was that Dave was always insecure about the show’s success and would reveal that when discussing it in interviews. But I’ve never come across any trade report that hinted at the show’s possible demise. I think it was just Dave being Dave.

    As someone with a perfect memory, could she learn a language in a few months or something?

  • @brucerichard342

    @brucerichard342

    2 жыл бұрын

    Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory and learning are two different things. I think she would have to study and learn a new language pretty much like anybody else does. The difference with her is in ten, twenty, or thirty years she could recall any and every day she learned it down to what day of the week it was, what clothing she was wearing, what she learned that day, what the weather was like, and other things that occurred in the news that day with accuracy. Her HSAM condition is truly astonishing. As far as quickly learning a new language look up the prodigious savant Daniel Tammet. There’s a documentary about him. Near the end of this documentary he takes on the challenge of learning Icelandic, considered to be one of the hardest languages in the world to master, in one week. He pulled it off. At the end of the week he went on a nationally broadcast television talk show in Iceland to converse with the hosts in fluent Icelandic. Daniel Tammet’s abilities are particularly astounding. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o4GulcmjnJzeXbA.html
