Hail genius Fish
Heard Marillion first time on the way home in a taxi an early saturday morning, drunk, 39 yrs ago. I actually sobered up in awe over this band I never heard about. Taxi-driver clearly proud to have introduced a costumer to this and we spend half an hour discussing the album; (Script for a jesters tears). He got loads of tip and first thing next day, was to buy the album. The lyrics are beautiful despite the sadness, desolation and seriousness. These albums are what I call a true treasure in any music collection. Thank you Fish and all musicians in Marillion. If the singer is the feelings, the guitar is his tears.

my introduction to the band, in mid-80s, was "misplaced childhood". i listened to it for the first time when i overnighted at my friend's place. he played the cassette tape version of the album when we were about to crash out. 😁

For me Clutching At Straws is by far the best of the Fish era albums. Despite the tensions between Fish and the band at the time, they had matured greatly as musicians and songwriters by then. The music to me is stronger and the album sounds way better than their earlier ones or even Misplaced. Rothery's guitar work on CAS is simply stunning (That Time of The Night, Sugar Mice, etc.) They had finally transcended their influences with this one. Fugazi is great (and, in my band we still play some of that stuff today) but CAS is just so much better for me. As a trio of albums, Misplaced, CAS and Season's End stand apart from all the rest for me. Personally I didn't follow Marillion beyond Season's End, not because I didn't like Hogarth, I love Season's End and it's THE best Marillion album ever for me no matter who sings. But nothing after that caught my attention the same way.
It was and remains one of my favourite albums of all time. Marillion with Fish were a brilliant band, without him they were lacking something.

Do not forget all the tears. . Of pain or joy this band can bring..forever in our hearts.
My older brother was a HUGE Genesis fan, and one day I started hearing this stuff, and asked which Era was it? He explained it's this other band, called "Marillion" which was like Genesis on a dark and contemplative day. When we got "Misplaced childhood" I pretty much had it down as these guys are one of the greatest bands ever. I ended up building quite a large collection of theirs over the years. I was on my Mormon Mission in Hannover Germany in late 95, I met Marillion one afternoon, and then 2 weeks later I met Fish, I felt like I had crossed off some serious items on my bucket list to have met them all. I can honestly say that I have spent cumulative months listening to their music. I got to interview Marien Carnes recently who sang backup for Fish, it is still amazing that after so man years this music is still sounding and feeling current. IF anyone knows Marillion, the LOVE the music.

Yes yes!
First time in my life I listen to this album and is fantastic.
Marillion at their best!!!
Another incredible Marillion album.
cóż dodać.......nic
Discovered Marillion in the early 80's my Dad was in pto them, gotta admit he had good taste in music love this band xx
zdecydowanie najlepsza płyta , arcydzieło !!!!!
i came out my childhood with this band , relieved my wounds , i miss that time ,i miss me too..
One of the first casette tapes I ever bought back in the day and played it non stop on my walkman!!!. Even now sounds amazing and Fish's voice and brilliant lyrics still make this one of my favourite albums of all time.

Michael Triffitt I used to listen to this on my Walkman while jogging. I recorded the vinyl on a cassette tape.
I've been hearing this for the first time in 30 years, and am thrilled today as for the first time! Completely forgotten, fantastic....

This is pure art......i started listening to this album in 1993.......unique sound and a complete flight into Fishs artistic mind of words and poetry in music....love you old Marillions
A totally underrated album - 'Script' and 'Misplaced Childhood' / 'Clutching at Straws' get the publicity. This is fantastic. The creativity!

My older bro introduced me to Marillion through this album. Never left them ever since through their highs and lows, as I did with Fish solo carreer. Countless concerts in various incarnations : Marillion w/ Fish, Marillion w/o Fish, Fish solo. Thanks guys for being there over the years. Such a long journey.
Absolutely brilliant looking at shades of green with shades of blue absolutely class

Considero o melhor do Marillion, disparado !!!

Still listening in 2021, masterpiece! 😁😁😁
Can't really describe my feelings each time I'm listening to this timeless masterpiece. "Jigsaw" is simply phenomenal!!!
I’m in the US, a buddy was into this band in 84/85 he liked to buy vinyl imports. First song I heard was Market Square Hero. Sold. It only got better from there, why I’m commenting in this album section. Beautiful album covers as well. Probably one of the most underrated bands ever.
I'd forgotten how good these are until I listened to this, thank you very, very, very, etc, etc, etc, etc, much for putting it up. Saw these live in 83 at Glastonbury & then again in 86, fckin brilliant.
Epic album. Really a masterpiece. I mean how to start an album.

Bought this on its release. Loved it then, still love it now. Saw this tour as well. One of the best gigs I ever attended. Fish hanging onto a giant mirror jigsaw piece. Just brilliant.
I have Loved Marillion since the mid 80s I have all of their material and A lot of collectors stuff . Fish you Rock I am sorry you got too big for you too handle. Let bitter silence infect the wound.
It is brilliant from start to finish even the songs which are longer really get deep into your brain and the shorter ones are so catchy yet still have a real charm to them
Simply the greatest album ever made, lyrical and musicals genius.

One of my favourite bands of all time. Fish a modern day poet. Very happy to have seen them on 3 occasions in those great early 80s days.
More than 26 years and the same joy 👂👍🃏
A proper "Dunno what this hell is this- but i LOVE it moment" when this was released- Especcialy Assassing
One of my all time favs, got louder and louder as as I progressed into stronger and stronger drinks. Going to put my DVD on now- "Recital Of The Script" Live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, April 18th 1983. Fish pulled apart and destroyed a potplant on stage as part of his theatrics. I didn't know offended vegans existed back then but he wasn't allowed to do that again
Assassing one off my favourite tracks if all time. Masterpiece.
always find despaired energy listening to it... Marillion with Fish was awesome!

I have been listening to this since I purchased the vinyl!!! Incubus is my favorite song on this record.
When you hear each and every song in different mood this is a gem. You don't listen to "Assasins" when you are "Fugazi" ;-)
