Actually its probably a hybridization of the speaker and devil forger magic. Its allowing her to call upon elemental spirits.

I love how this series handles magic and its users. Its used practically in battle, and mages demonstrate Dexterity and Agility to compensate for their fragility.

I love the appreciation for Marie’s summoning magic, but let’s not forget, she’s no slouch with a sword, either! Unafraid to take vampires head on, as a mage… That’s incredible!

I finished watching just yesterday and I realised that her otherworldly creatures might be based on Chinese' mythology. Black Tortoise, Crimson Bird and White Tiger. All we are missing is the Azure Dragon.

Imagine if this show upgrades her by not just bringing back her Seiryuu, but even adding Koryuu into her arsenal. Admittedly it's a wee redundant since we'll end up with two dragons, one blue the other gold, but Koryuu (aka Huang Long) is the fifth central member of the so-called Four Gods.

@@hydrosphagus9672 Maybe Kohryu could be done by combining the 4 into one, and Kohryu displays features of all the others. Suzaku's wings, Genbu's shell, Byakko's legs, and Seiryu's head and tail.

Now, at last, in this TV version. We can finally see a summoner mage and novice of the speakers instead of an elemental mage. Summoning was a powerful and complex technique of magic.

The Castlevania Nocturne writers do such an incredible job writing the women in the show. It's nearly impossible not to feel some sort of connection with any of the characters; but as a woman, it's the women, in particular, who really strike a chord with me.

The Red Birds (Suzaku) actually exists in the game as sub-weapon with vertical overhead range. The doves is her basic attack that basically works like short-ranged boomerang. Going forward, slightly up, then comes back to Maria. Depicting the game mechanic into animated fighting is difficult, so the director need to cut some corners.

I still miss the old Castlevania with Sypha, Alucard & Trevor

Yeah, thought it was gone except Alucard due to being half Vampire-Human, and he is immortal. Also, he appeared at the end of season 1 finale. Having the SOTN look.

Me too. Reminds me of playing Final Fantasy games. Not only you can summon beasts, but you can summon weapons too. I would prefer summoning weapons.

@@javierortiz2128 sort of, the Otherworld (one, capitalized word) is a concept in Celtic lore, one which is seen in fairytales and story motifs throughout Celtic Europe. The concept likely came down through the ages as fairyland or the fairy world, or even Narnia in modern writers.

The issue with beastmaster archetypes is that they are typically far too bound by their beasts. Usually, the work around is to make the beasts unkillable in some way, where they can just be respawned after some time. But Maria doesn't have that, which makes for a weird dynamic where either the enemies are smart enough to hit the animals and kill them, making Maria very weak, or they don't go after the animals and you're just left wondering why the enemies are stupid.

Hoping to see Maria in season 2 with her costume is symphony of the night

Do her animals also have some kind of magic energy? When they are shining with that yellow glow means something or it's just a magic effect?

It might be holy or otherworldly magic? :o Her tiger has electric elemental powers, & in one of the scenes in the cathedral we see Marie using light magic to heal her tiger between fights. I assume when the birds glow, it’s like their next strike will burn/pierce the enemy!

Sypha set the bar too high. Her magic was totally OP in the first show, to the point I think they felt they had to nerf it. If you notice, Tera's and Richter's mom's magic don't even compare to Sypha's, and Marie's summons would be too powerful. (They are a still visually delightful, though)

@@danelwind2574I’m not sure, Tera is much older & likely rustier than Sypha when it comes to combat, & Julia only relied on magic half of the time; if it was her full arsenal, I have no doubt that Julia could at least match Sypha’s abilities!

What came first this or Owl House?

The Netflix adaptations are okay, but all of the protagonists from the series seem to suffer from a bit of Lawful Stupid. These guys were way more capable in the games.
