Olrox literally had the energy of “I don’t give a damn” and “why do I keep encountering delusional narcissists” throughout the entire show.

@@zen4ever3I doubt it, Humans are not driven by logic like olrox is. Olrox is not a regular guy, due to his long life and upbringing In the Aztec culture, he is passive to life and as a result, is quite methodical and closeted with his emotions - even when he killed his lovers murderer, it was more or less just a simple eye for an eye. Depictions of lust for love and blood are probably quite accurate given people are naturally drawn to things that give them a dopamine hit.

The thing that I find fascinating about Olrox is that he's effectively the protagonist of a revenge story. A man driven to kill the person who killed the love of his life. But we saw the end of that story at the beginning of episode 1 of this series. He's done it. He's had his revenge. But now? Now he just kind of...drifts through life. He's above it all, but in a way he's not really part of it either. He's the man who's had his revenge and now doesn't really have much else to live for.

He parallels Dracula in a few ways too. They're both vampires who fell in love with humans. Dracula never turned Lisa into a vampire out of respect for her decision to not become one. While Olrox turned his lover into a vampire so they could be together forever and it being implied his lover didn't fully consent to becoming a vampire. Dracula went mad and depressed after Lisa's death deciding the human race needs to be wiped out including the innocent and children who had nothing to do with Lisa's death even though this will mean he and the other vampires will die from starvation too as he just wanted to die and take the rest of the world with him. Olrox just tracks down the one responsible for killing his lover, gets his revenge, but still continues to carry on existing and spares young Richter as he was just a child and out of so Richter can grow strong and have a fair fight in the future. Also both Dracula and Olrox get criticised for their decisions in regards to their lovers and it plays a part in the deaths of their lovers. Carmilla flat out questioned why Dracula never turned Lisa as she may have had more of a chance of protecting herself if she was vampire (and Carmilla was doing it to trigger Dracula). Mizrak calls Olrox out on turning his lover without consent made him a target for Julia.

Olrox killing Julia just showed the writers weren’t pulling any punches. We have an antivillain, he’s ruthless, but he’s not outright evil, and he manages to kill a fully-fledged Belmont in her prime with both magic and melee fighting. That establishes his threat. And if Richter didn’t stay behind, his mother wouldn’t have died, so that establishes that Julia wasn’t incompetent.

all very true. The show has pretty solid writing overall, but there does seem to be a lot of plot armour when it comes to the other vampires not picking up on Orlox's treachery. He says "You want to acomplish this through an alliance with a man who doesn't worship you?", constantly needs pushing to bow to Erzebet, prefers to literally eat the rich and powerful rather than the common man (unlike the other posh vampires), has no problems forming romantic attachments to humans and let a BELMONT child live when any other vampire would have killed the kid alongside his mother! All the signs of him being potentially traitorous and self serving are right there but the other vampires just don't pick up on it or don't act on it whatsoever.

@@Toonwalla2010 I'll give the series its credit for writing Olrox well but not the blocking out of the sun as it was ruled a bad idea in the first series because humans need the sun. Which is true, without the sun we get some nasty ass anemia(speaking from personal experience) along with other various health complications. It won't affect them if its short-term, but long-term, that's going to be bad. Eventually Humanity would just die out.

The direction the show is taking suggests that Olrox may be the avatar of the Aztec God Quetzalcoatl. It remains unclear why he did not take action against Sekhmet much earlier. However, it's probable that Olrox is collaborating with Dracula and Alucard on a long-term plan to confront Sekhmet and her demonic and divine associates and allies.

Olrox transforms into a Feathered Serpent. Like Quetzalcoatl/Kukulcan, who's apparently not so big on human sacrifices. One of Quetz/Kuku's rivals is Tezcatlipoca, a Deity related to Jaguars of Night, Sorcery, and Jaguars. Erzebet became a god-like entity via Sekhmet, associated with lions and in this show, wishes to create an eternal night. Anyone have the feeling Olrox dislikes Erzebet because of her current similarities to what Tezcatlipoca was? Cat associated gods with dominion over night?

I love the art and the representation in castlevania but i really hope theyre not trying to do what i think they may be trying to do, I hope doltra is black as a representation of the diversity of Egyptians rather than an afrocentrism cultural appropriation ploy like cleopatra by jade smith or the gods of Egypt because #EgyptforEgyptians is not a new slogan but what we've been using to fight colonialism since the british and french envasion egypt is not for the African Americans or the white Europeans or the turks or the turkish or any other envader but only for the Egyptians and the Egyptians alone, and the Egyptians look all sorts of way they can be as dark as ebony or as light as ivory but the crushing majority are brown like the wheat that grows on the land of Egypt

Olrox, in his other form 'The Winged Green Serpent’ resembles a deity in Aztec culture (a civilization that existed in Mexico from the 14th to the 16th century). This deity is known as Quetzalcoatl, revered in their culture as the god of wisdom and knowledge, as well as the god of winds and weather. Given Olrox's Mexican nationality, it is possible that he could be a vampire and the deity Quetzalcoatl at the same time.

Bit hypocritical of Olrox to criticise conquistadors for "slaughtering in the name of their god", considering how fond the Aztecs were of ritual human sacrifice. These bits of dialogue are the moments where the wokeness of the writers seeps out a tad too much. Their need to push THE MESSAGE spoils the quality of some scenes.

  • @jp7375

LOL, you really believe that? Did the aztecs use ritualistic human sacrifice? Sure, not unlike european pagan cults and early christians. Not unlike Germanic tribes, and not unlike the Roman's entertaining entire stadiums with bloodsport. But you have to understand that much information was suppressed or destroyed. Even flattering accounts like Nezahualcoyotl's empty temple were most likely embellished to seem more palatable to the Catholic authorities. Scholars barely had an inkling of what mayan or aztec culture truly was until the 19th century shortly after mexico's independence and during Porfiriato: 300 years after the spanish first landed. Hell, the Florentine Codex was not recorded for posterity, it was seen as a tool not unlike a physician's textbook to assist the colonists in 'curing' the paganism of the mexican natives. Also, olrox's backstory is central to his character...it's why he is helping Belmont and company in the first place. His first appearance suggested he would be a heartless villain only to morph into a tragic antihero that still carries human values unlike all the one-dimensional vampire supremacist fodder we've seen. That's how you write a compelling character.

Or noticing the hypocrisy is the point? It's asking the question is the ritual sacrifice of the Aztec people different more noble than the imperial sacrifice of the Spaniards? To Olrox, a fucking vampire, there is. There's rules to killing that makes killing more... Noble in certain circumstances and Erzabet is not being a noble vampire or god.

@@AmandaTroutman Except it's not asking that question at all, because Olrox doesn't even bring up Aztec sacrifices. The scene is casting moral judgement to one side, without aknowledging the faults of the other. Olrox is never negatively judged for being Aztec: only for being a vampire.

The human sacrifice numbers could be bloated by Spain. Also, they'd normally sacrifice enemy soldiers, so killing them on the battlefield or capturing them and killing them later for their religion, either way they're dead. Going halfway across the world to steal land, resources, people, etc. out of greed is much worse IMO and to most people.
