Marcus Smart - Lockdown 19/20 (Great Hands)
Спорт
Marcus Smart. 2019 NBA All-Defensive First Team. 2015 All-Rookie Second Team. Those are the only two honors Marcus has received so far in his career, which is wild to think about when you see how important he is to his team. A year removed from his very first All-Defensive Team selection (to quote the Grindfather Tony Allen, “First Team All-Defense”), Smart has somehow upped his game on the defensive end of the floor. Reminiscent of Draymond Green for the Golden State Warriors with their (pre-Durant) “Death Lineup,” Marcus matches up with opposing big men, often IN THE POST, and often does more than just hold his ground. That’s made even more impressive by the fact that’s (only) a legit 6’3”. He is terrifically tenacious and is as electrifying as anyone can be on the opposite side of the offense.
Smart is in the top 10 in the league in deflections per game (ahead of the likes of Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, and Paul George), top 20 in steals per game, top 10 in charges drawn by guards, and top 20 in Defensive Win Shares (better than DPOY winners Kawhi Leonard and Rudy Gobert).
“When you look at Marcus Smart and what he brings to the table, it’s like he gives them (the Celtics team) swagger. He don’t care who you are. He don’t care if you 7’1”, he takes pride in ‘ I’ma show y’all I can lock this up’” said Kendrick Perkins on The Jump in November. That has followed through pretty much this entire season when he’s been out on the floor. Watch how great his hands are, how he rips the ball out of even the surest ball handlers. Watch how he’ll put his body on the line against much bigger guys. Watch how he leverages bigger players’ legs when he’s outsized on postups. Watch how he beats guys to spots and refuses to get screened (coverage permitting). Watch him do anything defensively and you’ll learn and grow. He draws charges. He blocks shots. He denies the ball with the hands and feet all angled properly. Smart is a defensive savant.
Special shoutouts to @SmartHighlights , @Timi , and @always_hoops .
Hope @FreeDawkins can make a comeback.

THIS is how defense is supposed to be played. He’s going up with big guys and guarding the best handlers and isn’t scared to get embarrassed. And he does it with so much heart.

That isn't scared to be embarrassed must be a new thing. Growing up getting embarrassed happens but you keep on playing. Whether that's getting posterized, or crossed over.

The first defensive play in this video where he denies Kawhi the ball and does a diving save throwing the ball off of Kawhi's foot is one of the most beautiful defensive plays/camera shots ever.
If you don't appreciate the type of player he is you not a true fan of the game

There’s a difference of having to play defense and wanting to play defense, Smart’s an asset to any team he plays for.
Marcus "Winning Play" Smart
I love watching him guarding big man. I'm always the smallest player on the court and I can learn a lot from him.

MAN! this video isnt too recent but hearing tommy's voice again strikes alittle nerve. Rest in paradise legend!
he’s someone you hate to go against but you’ll appreciate it later
Nobody Gets more steals then smart by taking the ball from the defender. there are some guys that play the passing lane better but thats just because Smart is always guarding the best player who usually has the ball.
Smart hands! I'm very unlucky not able to see this cuz am only wathing highlights from youtube.. Glad u uploaded this vid. Thanks alot!!
Hes like a compact version of rodman
What makes Marcus so good, he plays smart!
Man it would be a crime if never won a defensive player of the year give this man some credit. 💯👌
I really wish Him a speedy recovery. The man plays wit all his heart u gotta respect that 🙏

He's too goooood
He should have at least one defensive player of the year before his career is up
Love this channel ❤️
That steal into a no look with the left was amazing
you cannot hate this dude even as an opponent. respect!
Every championship team needs great role players. That is what Smart started out as. He is nowhere close to Brown or Tatum right now, but he just keeps getting better and better every year. Hes making better shot selections, reducing his turnovers, his passes are more accurate and despite being elite defensively, he actually is getting better.
"aLl hE d0eS Is jUsT fLoP!"
Great great vid.please make more of these
Tonight was a reminder of the incalculable things Smart brought, along with the hustle stats; he played to the bone, and he wouldnt have let the C's get whooped on at home by a hospital squad from Miami. And these teams played harder, and with more joy, than this current group does - and I think that was Marcus, too.
3:48 give me that
Wow! Marcus Smart is so smart!
Straight hustle player.
As for me the best highlights are for Celtics33 and Celtics36..never tired watching those.

@@zapdos6244 that's the idea! When I was coming up, I'd watch the same clip of the same move over and over and over trying to figure out everything about. But the beauty more now is availability. A player's go-to move or a counter to that move can teach you a lot and now that problem for me sometimes is overemphasizing that move on a video that's supposed to be more comprehensive 😅
very good video.
He is my favorite defender to watch
Bruh really the smartest in the nba
Excellent top tier defender
He so smarttt
What else can be said.. Dude is Smart

The play where he rips it off Zach Lavine and throws a one handed bounce pass to Hayward is peak Marcus Smart.
Clamps
I cannot get out of the house cause Smart's lockdown
Hate the Celtics with a passion... got a lot of respect for Smart though. Dude is such an ELITE defender. Might be the best pure lockdown guard we’ve seen since Tony Allen
Get well soon Mr. Smart. I patterned my game from you.

Evin Gualberto can you please do a video of Marcus Smart defending bigs? I love so much the hustle and the toughness that he brings in this soft league.
He got them clampers
The play at 2:32 is a great microcosm of what Smart provides for his team. Elite defense and great passing.
DPOY 💯
So good his defense
if you look closely, all celtics players moves in sync when it comes to defense. smart is just really outstanding.

His IQ Off the charts
You think you'll make another for dpoy year?
This is how you play D back in the 80's and 90's.
The kind of player that i want to be
Could you do one of Avery Bradley, jaylen brown, Bam (defense), dejounte Murray🤗
In this league with too many three pointers he still guards big men and isn’t scared to take a charge
If kemba leaves, Marcus smart should be our starting point guard tbh
Depoy winner 2022
Kinda like Rodman w/o the rebounding, back in the Pistons days. Drawing charges, constantly pressuring and bothering the offense, can guard multiple positions.
Smart can guard 1 through 5. Defense is all heart!
He should be in the DPOY race easily
DPOY
Can you do Bam Adebayo next?
