Marcus Miller - Run For Cover

Музыка

Headphones on!
Marcus Miller has always been my #1 influence. I think my perception of rhythm has been formed heavily by his playing. When I think of what a 70s jazz bass should sound like, I think of him.
In this video I worked specifically on getting the nuance right. Tone, phrasing, and just time feel in general. I realised that I've been playing this tune really incorrect, even on my last video of it. Attention to detail is something that I think makes you grow so I really wanted to get somewhere with it.
This was about 8 hours in total just for this segment, I know that quality is something that I always stood for and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yes!!! You nailed it, feel and all. It has taken me 15 years of listening and listening to learn all the exact notes and way it is played. It is not easy to nail the sound!

Superb work. I remember a passage from a Hal Crook book that really impacted me years ago: "always assume there are more details to be heard in whatever you're listening to" or something of this kind. It seems that's what you've been doing, listening to this tune over and over and discovering new details to the point that you've now pretty much nailed it. Thanks for sharing your journey with us 👍

Great selfreflection. Hopefully we will see you playing the whole song in the same flow you did like in this clip. You are playing the bass like a funky technician.

Great, great, great... but why always just little extracts, and not the whole entire song?

Because consistency is really hard. I’m also trying to put more content more often and doing 4-5minute video is actually a lot of work (I’m not a one take kind of guy since my adhd runs wild)

@@TerryRomanio Ah so, I'm sorry. That's something hard to guess, as everything seems to be so easy for you when yo play.

@@philippeweibel826 no it’s ok. It’s easy in a way that it looks ‘effortless’. But the hardest thing is being in the moment and having 100% focus. That part is EXHAUSTING. Doing something that’s great is always super stressful I find, but it’s the only way to get better result.

@@TerryRomanio I think I can understand, as I have some kind of these problems my self, especially when I have to record something, which terrifies me (but at a very lower level of playing). Maybe the solution for you, in order to make longer parts, would be to record yourself with 2 or 3 different cameras, which would permit you to cut parts between the different takes. For instance recording 3 or 4 takes of a song, all this filmed with 2 or 3 cameras and then make a final mix with all the good parts.

@@philippeweibel826 Yeah technically that would be ideal, but it wouldn’t show proper flow.
