To think that the car was styled and built basically in 6 months AND the men paying for it were in at the first meeting, then on the show floor. Talk about responsibility and faith. To produce a car that even then was a icon is amazing. This video is a wonderfully paced and set chat with the car just driven in the places it was meant for. Finally, I still think it's amazing that a screwdriver and a rubber tube, with one hell of an 'ear', is what it takes to make the mechanical marvel of an engine sing. All around it is masterful skill. Great episode.

I'm bound to say Mr. Tyrrell; when you look at the viewing figures and subscriber rates of some HQ producers like this, and that it can be done every bit as well as a traditional broadcaster, it does make the future of the aggressive, metropolitan, insular BBC (and others to be fair) look very thin indeed. I resisted new media for years, and I'm an arch tradionalist in many ways, but even I have to admit when I'm wrong, and the future has sort of rushed up in front of us. When content of this quality is available upon demand and people aren't threatened with prison if they don't pay the licence fee, I think the future is clear. Well done Sir. As Ian Fleming once said in one of the Bond books - there is nothing more enjoyable than listening to an expert who really knows his subject.

This has brought back memories of seeing my first Lamborghini Miura - the original super car. I grew up in the East End of London where I believe the first Lamborghini dealership in the U.K. was situated back in 1967/68. Originally "Alie Street Service Station" in Alie St., London E.1., the dealership operated under the name "Nicholas van der Steen". While walking past the forecourt of the garage (complete with petrol pumps), I saw the Miura parked outside. It was right - hand drive for the U.K. black with a white interior - that's "Nero cangiante" paint with "Bianco" leather upholstery. Just stunning! No one was about so I went up close to the car and peered inside. Wow, that cockpit - just so ahead of it's time! One thing I did notice was that the speedometer had not been fitted. But on the passenger seat was a cardboard box which looked about the right size to hold a speedo'. Did the dealership fit the speedo' so that the customer took delivery of the car with "minimum mileage"? Was the car tested with a k.p.h speedo' at the factory, and then shipped after it was removed? Or had the unit failed in during it's pre - delivery check and the replacement was waiting to be fitted? As so few r.h.d. Miuras were made, I wonder what happened to that car. Eventually van der Steens became Lamborghini Concessionaires as the marque grew in the U.K. and the rest as they say is history. Thank you Iain for your work, diligence and singing (!) in this episode of your Classic Car Workshop, especially your interview with Mr. Gandini. Between you and Harry's Garage, you are creating "Petrolheads Nirvana" ! Molto Grazie! (I think that's many thanks in Italian).
