How Iain Tyrrell Found The Italian Job Lamborghini Miura

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome back to Supercar Secrets brought to you by www.SupercarsMonaco.com
Before lockdown I got together with our resident classic and supercar expert Iain Tyrrell to pick his brains on more than 30 years of experience. A lot of his time is spent searching for cars on behalf of clients. In this interview I asked him to share the most well known of his discoveries -the actual Lamborghini Miura used in The Italian Job. Let’s here Iain’s recollection of this iconic car.

The magnificence that is Ian Tyrrell! Iain's knowledge, presentation and skills are superb. What I especially like is that he never appears to talk down or up to anyone...he seems to float across covering everyone who enjoys listening to him. Why someone has not as yet requested that he host a classic car show on television is totally beyond me, but lets be thankful we can enjoy him on KZread.

We could listen to Iain all day long! This man has what we call ‘a pilot’s voice’ - a voice that instils a sense of calm and confidence - a person who has nothing to prove!

I like that - yes I know what you mean about the air of calm confidence. I guess you couldn't dismantle a Lamborghini V12 without it..

@@supercarsmonacotv7831 its all fluff, he actually a very anxious creature, look deeper....listen harder. not to detract from the chaps credentials, hes very good at what he does but that is not a man who is sure of himself, just knows how to overcome massive self confidence and anxiety , its a sell. if you buy it? well done him, but thats not cool, calm confidence your seeing. its a lifelong task on manufacturing a persona.

@@laurieharper1526 yes, I have, I'm a pretty decent psychologist. And no. Lol. I'm nothing like this fella, I'm a bit of a firebrand, whilst capable, I in no way try to exude quiet confidence. I'm what you might call a bit of a bastard. My confidence whilst well founded, is loud, brash and far far more assertive than wibbling Ian here. Good luck with your nonsense though.

That episode of him driving the original car, through the Alps, gave me goosebumps and tears of joy. Seen the film too many times, to remember. Then meeting the designer!! that was the icing on the cake.

fascinating stuff. so was the car's VIN known? Understood there were probably few made that year in that color, but just wondering if there was hard proof of the original car provenance that would tie it to the found car. Was the car, at the time of the movie, privately owned or owned by the movie production company...meaning that maybe someone had a record of serial numbers or this or that. Obviously not in the same league, but the VIN's for both of the Bullitt Mustangs were known from the production company, so the found cars were able to be documented. I think I heard that the Miura pushed over the hillside was a previously wrecked car...obviously not the found car.

The wrecked Miura that ended up in the river...I'd bet it's still in that river, along with many parts that would be worth a good bit of money (the V12) Back then you wouldn't pull it out the river. I do wonder if anyone has thought about pulling it out the water 🤔

Made the Ford Granada look like flabby Luxo-barge and the German alternative offerings rather ordinary. Tragic that it was plagued by the BL dog-eat-dog blight and ultimately gained a reputation as a lemon. Iain's history lesson appreciated.
