A man of many talents
Trying to capture the true essence of Iain Tyrrell in a few sentences is not easy:
One of the world’s foremost classic car experts, respected technical authority, restorer and historian, Iain is also an accomplished creative performing artist; blessed with more than his share of talent. He is constantly in demand both for his expertise and knowledge of classic cars, having been called upon from all corners of the globe, and for his talents in performing arts.

That Pantera does not look like a sheep :D
True, but it does look like a Pantera L which was around 300BHP. This one has been dyno’d at 490BHP! :-)
German Racer Erich Bitter adored the style of Ghibli and Indy so much that he created the Bitter CD a quite nice looking coupe based on the Diplomat from Opel with 5.4 liter Chevy V8 and 230 horsepower Paul Breitner owned one…
Wow! This car is beautiful.
I see the Esprit never got a mention either.
It was in a different category, but could quite rightfully have been in the pop up headlight category
A great presentation.
In the pop up head lights section, the Corvette c2 would have fitted as that had pop ups
Amazing to see.
A very interesting presentation by Ian. I never realised there were different levels of Councour. I always thought the "other end of the pendulum", as he put it, was the required standard, cars kept in glass cases, carried round in covered transporters etc., such nonsense IMO. The fact some of the cars here are actually used is just how it should be!👍 OK, personal choice time, I hereby nominate the Pantera as one of the best looking cars of all time. That beautiful Ghibli in "Bronzo Metalizato" is the same colour as my shed. Just sayin'.😂😂
Brilliant, thank you.... Im not envious.... much..
Good morning lain. Love all the comments . Every days a school day ! Did l spot a certain FF in the background ? and was that Sophia Lorens Rolls Royce Drop head? The late Brian Wills , a very well respected local engineer built a light weight Elan for his wife to race and it weighed in at an astonishing 400Ibs less than the original ! Titanium door locks , seat frames , front number plate etc. And the split rear window is my favourite 325 bhp with drum brakes !!!! Thankyou lain .
Love the Fun Fiat Fact about the Muira headlights...!
Hi Iain. If you think that Hongqi is impressive...... wait till you get down on your knees and checkout the YangWang......hahaha.... 😂seriously though a lovely roundup and we thank you. I concur.... the Ghibli is/was and will always be a stunner.... Cheers S
Do they loose points for non orginal number plates? One of my pet hates is black and white number plates on cars newer than 1972. Originally they would have had whit/yellow and in reality anything from about 1968-70 had them from new. Looks terrible on newer cars. If I were a judge I would exclude cars with wrong plates
They do indeed lose a point or two if I’m judging
Mike Brewer is McDonalds pretending to be a Michelin star-restaurant.
I'm not just any Dave .... I'm saving that soundbyte for my wife! Thanks once again for taking time out to have a chat. T shirts and hats should be flying off the shelves now Iain.
Lovely concours, And I agree with Harry, diversity of cars is great, and love the ELP sound in the back at the end with the winners.
Thanks so much for leaving the failure in, yr face was quite a picture when that clunk happened 😂Such a beautiful car and such an amazing insight into the engine
That lagonda is sensational
We did a video on one a while back, if you haven’t seen it already
Thank you, Iain; gives us a leg up when we´ve spent a lot of money and want to show off our baby at such a show... this helps us manage our expectations...
Love the pantera..the sunglasses?..not so much…Ray Bans or nothing…( points off)
Wow just wow the Countach has always been a firm favourite but that was so good seeing all those models at the same time. Loved it and yes to those complaining about no regular videos please understand this is not the main part of Iain’s business so we get the videos when he can…and me for one I am so glad we do thanks Iain…and @harrysgarage for encouraging him to do them.
I was born in 1965 & this video pretty much documents my childhood. I can't count how many hours I spent looking at photos of these exotics in my Observers book of cars and in my Top Trumps cards. The thing that I miss are the beautiful Campagnolo wheels of the 1970s. They look so much better than today's rims.
Looks incredibly dry. I didn’t see anyone with a drink.
It wouldn’t be a Concours without some bubbly!
What a great event! I'm going to get a little nerdy here and point out that the turbine wheels on the 63' SW are actually incorrect. Kelsey Hayes had porosity issues and didn't get it straightened out till mid 64', so all 63' SW's came with hubcaps. There were a few that came invoiced with them but were never delivered. Wonderful content as always, keep up the great work Ian.
Spotted you and your mrs in Chester railway station before you went to the big smoke 😊
NICE CAR ! BUT THE ROADS ARE A NIGHTMARE . YOU MIGHT NEED NEWS SPRINGS AND SHOCKS AFTER A FEW MILES IN YOUR AREA . GOOD OLD UK GOV .
Hit 165 mph in a 928 S4 in 1987
Ferrari aside, the 130 Fiat is very handsome.
WoW.. - absolutely brilliant .. so many things .. 1) We need a Dave in every espisode. 2) Want to book tickets for next years event 3) Hats off Iain for being so humble about all this.. you have the full spectrum, heaven knows who is in your little black book, yet you bring this to everyone.. Thanks.
And it’s comments like yours that make it all worthwhile. Thank you
A Dave in every episode you say? I'll be needing an agent soon! I think your comments are spot on. Iain rubs shoulders with motoring royalty and likely services their vehicles, yet he shares the whole experience in such a manner that you feel a part of it. I learn something new with every video!
I owned two Fiat 850 Spiders, one Fiat 850 Sedan and one Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, not in that order. The 85o Spider caught my eye for its beautiful design, and although it was not fast, it was great fun to drive. After two Spiders, and the 124, I bought the 850 Sedan as a second car. And, why not, the others had made me a self taught mechanic taking me from basic tune ups to valve jobs. I did love those cars though.
If you want to make waves in the pop up headlights class you need to show up in a Cizeta V16T
Beautiful cars, love the Ghibli!
Good to see the Alfa SZ making an appearance, a very marmite car but I personally think it's beautiful.
Pantera and Charger 500 with Croc skin roof for me !!!!...
Excellent channel! Just the best…topics and showcased cars are incredible! Bravo once again!
Thank you!
Again this was an educational video, as I have often wondered what goes into determining how to choose the best of the best when you are surrounded by such amazing vehicles, both past and present.
Thank you Iain, for taking us along to the London Concours. I appreciated the detail not only about these amazing cars, but also the introduction to the work of a Concours judge and the thoughts behind the ratings. It is very pleasing for me to see that the original level of craftsmanship still gets the highest ratings some 60 years later. Well done.
Thank you
Morecambe & Wise. Steptoe & Son. The Likely Lads.....Iain & Harry!! Both excellent alone and brilliant together! Bring it on! (with the occasional cameo from Clarkson....!!)
I am so glad you were inspired by Harry's Garage to become a star in your own right. Please forgive me if I'm wrong about that, but love your channel.
Thank you. It was indeed Harry who convinced me to try
Would my stock trailer be able to keep up with it with a dozen sheep on board.
What a wonderful video. 24:39 Emerson Lake & Palmer in the background! Fanfare for the Common Man. Very suitable to this event. I think this was meant to be a little cynical? Anyways, I would take the Ghibli as a daily.
He is much easier to take at 1.5 speed.
do the other judges have a similar background to your good self master engineer with vast know how
I really enjoyed this, a great relaxed delivery and there seems to be a wonderful relaxed atmosphere, top job. Cheers.
Loved the video. Would like to see more of these concourse judging videos
17:35 a full on Alan Partridge moment. Only missing a request for a tie and blazer badge combination pack! 🤣
Sorry Harry,,maybe next year! LOL
I can't see these without thinking of that time Clarkson smashed that one into the brick wall... Man that was a hell of a shunt! Classic Top Gear days.
I wondered what happened to Ken Dodd’s suits .
