I did some research on Ebru a couple of years ago because I was interested in learning it, but could not find anything in english that would actually mention how to make the sizing and the coating for the paper. Fast forward to today that I'm just sitting here watching videos on how to create high flow acrylics and I find you with all the instructions I needed 2 years ago! The difference is that I know have my own studio in my house so I guess I found you at the right time! Thanks so much for sharing!! I'm definitely going to try this soon! Is it possible to use the same technique steps in marbling canvases ? If so , Do i need to cover the canvas with resolved Alum before marbling it ? And how did you make the lacy holes in the pattern , did you use only water or was it something else ? Thank you very much.

My question is similar to ones by Z.B. and S.G., which is: The floating medium, I have cornstarch used and the effect is similar. Is Carrageenan preferred? Also, dispersing the colors on the surface...A floating medium (such liqui-flow --a local generic paint flow enhancing agent) or is there something specific like ox-gall, which I understand to be perhaps one of the original methods? I enjoyed the video very much (despite my questions). Thank you for sharing this!

Hello, I am a senior art student who is going to explore ebru and water marbling as my semester long senior project, so I have a few questions. What brand of acrylic paint are you purchasing and is tap water ok to thin it? How much water to how much paint? Also, what type of brushes are you using? Also does the alum prevent the paper from soaking up the water and becoming misshapen (curling up)?

hello, just saw your tutorial and I am blown away. I paint with watercolors and I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. What is the clear liquid in the two jars you use to separate the paint? And do you put any thing over your paintings before you marble the background? Do you coat the non painted portions with the alum mixture you spoke about in the beginning of the video? how do you deal with the possible running of the watercolor that is being submerged? Please if you may, send me your answers.. Your newest fan, and subscriber.

This is going to be a wild guess but to me it looks somewhere around 500ml of water to 50g of allum but from other tutorials they recommend 178ml water and 2 tablespoons of allum and I couldn't say the ratio on carrageen but I have seen recommended as 1 tablespoon to 4 cups water. I do hope this helps, I have been struggling myself to find a full in depth tutorial for this. I live in England myself and I do not know anywhere to sign up for a class!

Her expertise and research become apparent as she shares in detail how to create marble patterns and shares tips that help to make the process easier for you. Her willingness to let the process of developing a painting go through many stages whether you start or end with marbling is a great lesson for all artists. I recommend taking her marbling workshop for an up close view with necessary tools provided. Check her website for classes: rene-art.com This video is a labor of love and I thank you Rene for all you have done to create it!
