Marawi City in Arma III (Oplan Pilandok)

MISSION PARAMETERS

Blue are infantry teams 1 and 2. Red is the Mechanized infantry squad MIKE and Green are the NAVSOG (X-RAY).
Team 1 and 2 are to penetrate the city from the west side pushing towards northeast, taking advantage of the intact buildings for cover (enterable). MIKE (Red) will attempt to suppress or penetrate (if possible) the heavily-damaged central area (with help of their IFV's), which is close to where the wounded captain was last seen (red dotted circle). MIKE can try to act as a wedge between OPFOR and the wounded officer.
X-RAY will initially detour to southeast to either do a shoreline approach to target, or utilize rubber boats (found further south) to do a landing closer to the city. Note that Infantry teams 1 and 2 must arrive at their push points early, so that they might effectively be a distraction/diversion, so that the area where the wounded captain would have lesser OPFOR. If X-RAY arrives at their push line before 1st and 2nd squad have begun their assault, and MIKE have not set up their IFV's properly, the NAVSOG might encounter heavy resistance while trying to reach the wounded captain.
No air support due to thick fog, and no arty is allowed due to risk of hitting the package. MIKE have 1 x V150 and 1 x M113A3 (.50 cal) at their disposal.
NOTE: Watch out for I.E.D's or mines... check areas for piles of garbage or trash, try to avoid such piles.

Nicely depicted, the Philippine military actually used UAV/drones (though no thermal camera) to look for the enemy and relay coordinates to artillery and mortar crews. I have to say that the actual street fighting was limited because the maute liked to keep the fighting indoors unless they really needed to change positions.

Paul The not So Great they have UAV with day and night capability even with thermal flir imaging also, the AFP team have a scale from business grade drones up to military grade UAV from big and small.

Philippine Army has no M1117 armored personnel carriers, only the Cadillac Gage V-150 which is what the M1117 is based on

I had to work with the limitations of the Tanoa Map (APEX DLC) for Arma 3, and as such the difficulty in getting an exact match. This is meant to be a representation of Marawi and not an exact match. And I know what you mean--I grew up in Marawi City, Mindanao State University, so I'm very familiar with the place.

They did have RPGs, The Philippine Army lost quite a few APCs during the fight and actually forced them to use cardboard to wrap around their vehicles as a cushion against the RPGs. Look it up.

Sad to say that even the Maute have better sniper rifles than the Philippine Army Rangers because they were supplied by arms dealers/smugglers from ISIS.

Paul The not So Great some of the weapons where directly looted from its original owner mainly the one they’ve killed from ambush. there are only few smuggled high caliber guns that the maute are using the rest are old and newly looted.
