One big question that will come up for many people looking at the Model 40n versus the Model 30 series stack is which one is better? If you can afford the 30 Series units, you will get a much beefier power amplifier that is capable of controlling your speakers a whole lot better, but the DAC/streaming part of the 40n seems really competent to us and the amp is better than we expected. Of course, you don’t get a CD player like you do with the 30 Series model, but you do gain HDMI Arc in the 40n, which is a great feature for those of you who want to use your two-channel stereo with your TV.
Plus, you get that classic appearance we love about the 30 series, and the touch and feel of the controls is just first class. When it comes down to it, the Marantz 40n offers a great feature set, beautifully built quality, and sound that is going to be very hard to beat for its cost.

    Well done ! Model 30 vs Model40n - which one is better or warmer sounding / less fatiguing for driving the super efficient Klipsch Cornwalls ? Also, for RecOUT, is that signal at 0dB gain and is @ fixed volume level (ie. not affected by any tone & volume controls) ? Isn't the output of the RecOut identical to whatever source is selected by the Model40n ? Finally, any idea why the change from Class D on Model30 to Class A/B on Model40n?

    We listened to this on a pair of JBL 4367 and it was really sweet but our memory was not good enough to detect a significant difference in the 30 from a sweetness perspective which we tested on the same rig. We did feel like there was better bass control and dynamics on the 30. However, your Cornwalls are far more sensitive than the JBL and you might be just fine with the 40n. Yes, like the days of old, the Record out will send a full volume signal to those outputs (which connect to your tape recorder input). They will send the source selected. No idea on the D vs AB, although the raw parts cost of that Hypex module they use in the 30 is very high. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Finally a channel that has put sound quality at the forefront.👍 best thing I ever did was return the Denon 6500 which has a digital amplifier and return it for something that sounds more neutral (real) like the arcam, my arcam avr20 uses an analogue amplifier and of course the best thing about it, I can play it at low volumes plus let's not forget... unlike nearly all AVRs arcam still uses an efficient toroidal transformer so no need for those so called silent fans 🤣 I can even play my high-end sonus Faber speakers through it, without a separate amplifier and they still sound great, something I couldn't do with the Denon, even when SF speakers were going through a separate amplifier! (What goes in must come out!)

    What would be the advantage of buying this over a Marantz SR6015 for $500 less? Seems like the 6015 probably has comparable power when used in 2 channel mode, has all the streaming services, phono input, additional various other inputs and outputs, and can support more speakers and subs. Does this really offer that much greater audio fidelity since it's only a two channel amp? The reason I'm asking is because I'm building a house with only one finished room in the basement. This room will be used for a two-channel audio setup for my turntable and streaming apple music, and also have a TV, but not a full surround sound system (maybe a sub to go with the two speakers). In the future, I want to fully finish the basement and the two channel room would likely be expanded into a larger family media room with a full 5.2.4 setup and TV. Should I invest in an integrated amp for when the space is used for two channel only, and then when I expand, sell the amp and get a receiver like the SR6015, or should I just buy an SR6015 or similar surround sound receiver from the jump? Thanks, and I always learn a lot from your videos.

  • @AudioAdvice

    @AudioAdvice

    That is a great question. When we look at the power supply and amp section in the 40n, it is clear to us it is more robust than the 6015 receiver. It is just built so well for what it costs. Since it has an HDMI Arc input and subwoofer out with crossover control, we would highly recommend it for 2 channel over the 6015. Plus it also looks like the phono preamp is better than the one found in the receiver. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and commenting.

    While I haven’t researched which DACs are used in both, I suggest this. Instead of buying then selling the 40n for a loss when you change to 5.1.4, buy the SR6015, and simply buy an external 5ch amp with that potentially lost money. If you’re serious about vinyl, you should have or be buying a phono preamp, not relying on built-in ones, so don’t let that persuade you. I just see no use in buying a temporary device and taking a loss on it, makes no financial sense. I would also suggest the Denon x4700h instead, unless you need 7.1 analog ins. - JBL SDP-55 and Outlaw amps owner

  • @AudioAdvice

    The Node is a great unit but is just a streaming DAC without an amplifier. It is a very good streamer.
