Footage of various scenes recorded on, or around the Isle of Man's Manx Electric Railway in July 2023, during the Summer Manx Transport Festival.
In September 1893, a 3ft gauge line that would become legendary for being one of the first to be powered by electricity, began operation between Douglas and Groudle Glen. Following extensions to Laxey and Ramsey, the line has since had its ups and downs, and still continues to appeal to visitors on the Isle of Man as a way of taking in the glorious Manx scenery.
2023 marks the 130th anniversary of the railway opening for business, and a series of small charters and events were held as part of the annual Manx Summer Transport Festival. These included parallel runs (two cars running side by side), photo charters with unusual combinations of cars, trailers and goods wagons, and a cavalcade at Laxey station.
This video depicts the events that took place, with a mixture of both footage and photographs.
Dedicated to the memory of Alan Corlett (1951 - 2022), who organised events for the centenaries of the Manx Electric and Snaefell Mountain Railways, in 1993 and 1995 respectively.
