Mantis Kung Fu VS. MMA | REAL SPARRING [螳螂拳 黃漢勛]

Thanks for the video and stepping into the cage to show us what a northern Chinese martial art from a legitimate classical lineage looks like in a real fight. It's so rare (I can't name any other examples) to see a video pinpointing each classical CMA technique used in a real fight AND refer back to older sources to show the techniques' authenticity (particularly with northern CMA). Too many times we see videos of a "kung fu fighter" (often from an unidentified style or lineage) who fights with what looks like generic kickboxing moves and we never get a breakdown of what exact classical Chinese techniques were used. What you have done is an extremely rare thing and I hope others follow suit and we begin seeing more real CMA fight videos, win or lose, out there with the level of transparency you have shown. Keyboard warriors will say what they like, but at the end of the day you stepped into the cage with an opponent who applied all his strength to win and you got the job done. 加油! PS do you see yourself stepping into the cage again anytime soon?

Lol.. 2 obese guys with piss poor skills doesn't really show martial arts superiority. King fu guy left himself wide open with every strike, any average level martial artist would mop the floor with him. And before op calls me a keyboard warrior, I did miay Thai and jiujitsu for almost 20 years, and fought a dozen times. Ps: before anyone asks for footage, sorry it was in the 90s, we didn't have cellphones.

That is completely debatable. I’ve been boxing and kickboxing for 10 years and we used to host a “fight club” where any style was welcome and the traditional boys always lost. The only style that ever competed with mma was a 7 star fist master, and 7 star is very stripped down, lots of economic movement. I guess it all comes down to the individual.

@@scotch4890 Well I think they are just talking about mantis kung fu which does seem like if trained in the right way can work well in a fight some kung fu arts like tai chi or wing chun get destroyed when facing mma or kick boxing this guy seemed to do pretty well the guy he fought in the video trained muay thai he might not be good at muay thai but a win a win I think Mantis Bajiquan and Choy li fut do have potential to be effective if trained right not all kung fu arts but some like the ones I brought up might work

@@wesleyjackson7487 I get what you are saying but the dude he was fighting was horrible. I wouldn’t even classify him as a brawler, he wasn’t using good head movement which is literally drilled into you so hard in Muay Thai and boxing that I can’t even hazard a guess to his lineage, and if he had used a helmet guard even once he might have fared better. But my perspective is based on experience, during our vale tudo fights at the gym I watched countless traditional dudes get slaughtered by our guys, only the 7 star fist master held his own. The wing chun wooden dummy guy did alright because wing chun is basically dirty boxing but everything else failed.

I love when someone takes kung fu and actually uses it the way it was intended to be used. Because you have traditional Kung Fu people (like you and Zen Dragon on his channel) who use the techniques and attacks that have been preserved and demonstrated through forms. And then you've got Sanda people have a base in Chinese kickboxing and try to put traditional Kung Fu on top of it but will not put for the extra effort to pressure test the traditional stuff. Most of the time when it comes to fighting, most of them will drop the traditional and resort to kickboxing. And as much as I love Sanda see it as the most versatile combat sport incorporating traditional martial arts, it is still far removed from something like Northerm Mantis. I aspired to be as courageous and skilled as you

What I liked the most is your ability to stay calm and focused, sticking to what you have learned. And that takedown looked dangerous - well done getting out of it before the other guy could benefit from his dominant position.

Great to see someone who has experience applying kung fu in real combat. I see the majority of people just "dancing" with BS of saying that "there is no need for sparring using kung fu, your kung fu will be there when you need it" that makes me sick. But I'm glad to have found at least one video with a real application.

Good effort! And probably the best video I have seen that practiced forms were applied to a sparring situation as closely as possible! There are many other practitioners claiming to be doing this or that TCMA styles but all turned out to be messy jab, cross, hook in sparring situations! Keep it up!

I did Northern Praying Mantis(Wah Lum) for 5 years. When watching it, the form look fancy with a lot of pretty techniques, but if the applications are taught correctly, it can be used very effectively for stand-up fighting. The "fancy" forms include eye jabs, neck strikes, kicks to the knee, and even groin grabs/strikes.

Train for years so you can win against someone who can barely punch walk or breath. But props to you for actually testing it. The editng was fire . But please do a video where you do that against people who somewhat lnow how to fight. It seems clear that traditional Kung fu is somewhat better than nothing against people who cant fight. I love the traditional stule of kung fu. Also i parted way with it. Change my mind change the mind of more people take on people who can fight. Go against Muay Thai and MMA trained people fight against Boxer . Let them have 2 to 3 years of experience probably way less amount than you have . Make a true show case if traditional kung fu is actually somewhat useful. Change the minds of alot of people. This is your chance.

Fantastic, alot of guys who do traditional martial arts panic in real confrontation, at least on KZread anyway and there system goes out the window, which I think is a reflection of how they train. Obviously you pressure test and spar and the outcome speaks for itself, well done pal.

Everything works if you practice with pressure testing. Unfortunately the Chinese government had stripped the Chinese Martial arts of their practical applications and methods of training making the martial arts into performance art. They didn't want people to have any means to fight them or civilians create an army of martial arts experts.

This martial artist (Alex) is clearly a skilled PM practitioner and is showing how to use the style (and Kf in general) effectively, angles included-really refreshing to watch. As he would know, when going to the ground it gets even worse -finger breaks, throat grabs, thumbs in eyes etc. in order to tear any soft or vulnerable tissue and get up and out. Contrary to usual bs comments about Kf, we (in my case 7-star PM) do train in chin na and shuai jiao techniques as part of the style to do just that with protective gear-ever been slammed on your head on a pavement instead of a mat or having your neck cranked while being thrown? give it a go and see how well your sacrifice throw to get on your back works. Apologies to the BJJ crowd but that's what we mean by close-in techniques and groundfighting-not working to a submission while your opponent friends kick you in the head, even with the awareness that submissions do work well one on one. Ok-some of this is tongue in cheek but the Kf practitioners get the point. From too many other vids, I do think more Kf practitioners need to be aware of not falling into the kicking and punching sparring trap or staying on the ground without applying other aspects of Kf (i.e. the other person's game), but rely on Kf techniques, speed, and strategy. Others might say that we like this vid because the Kf practitioner won, when in fact it's one of the very few times in which we've seen the Kf (in this case Wong Hon Fun PM) actually applied as we know it. Appreciated that he kept the skills and this fight to stand-up for the sake of the other guy. I definitely don't want to get on his bad side 😇
