@Unknown-ed2ei it sends the message that you can spend 53 years behind bars for a murder, which is a lot longer than many people do, especially since she stabbed one person and they couldn't even prove the victim was still alive when she did it, so they didn't prove she actually killed Rosemary LaBianca. If you don't honor the terms of someone's sentence, which is life WITH possibility of parole, you send the message that good behavior in prison is worth nothing, rehabilitation is being used as a euphemism for punishment, and that the law won't uphold their end of a deal. Which is not a good precedent to set.

Some only do about 10 years on average for murder. This lady was in prison this long because Sharon Tate was among the victims and Van Houten wasn't even part of that nights killings. If Tate and Folger hadn't been killed these people would have been out decades ago. Even in death the rich and famous get preferential treatment.

He is responsible for the following deaths- Sharon and baby, Jay, Wojchiech, Abigail, Don Shea and I believe he was likely involved in Gary Hinman's torture and murder too. Same. Im guessing most of these commenters have not kept up with the stories. Leslie has been reformed over the years as was susan, and many interviews from the 90s show their deep remorse. They were beyond brainwashed and would not have been malicious killers had they not been brainwashed. I feel for them, as well as feel for the victims and their families and i can understand their grief and anger, as not everyone has the capacity to forgive and thats ok. I do believe time has been served though, she has done alot of reflecting and has realized she was wrong and that charlie was wrong. and she deserves to have a little bit of life.
