Manor Lords: Building The TINIEST Rundling!

Ойындар

Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!
Get a soldier into your game: www.nexusmods.com/manorlords/...
Manor Lords on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/13...
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

You sow and plow in August, will it grow next spring? Or after harvest in September that field will be plowed again? Also commented under your previous video about efficiency size fields my man, October hit, you have 64 wheat, when you could have much more, as i said, they harvest and bring all crop to the middle of the field and from there to pantry/farmhouse. And at this ox helps during harvest, because he gathers stuff only from the middle of the field.

Also i strongly recommend taking everybody out of farmhouse after plowing and sowing, they get them in on harvest in September (or when the stuff is grown you have option “rush harvest”) and when its done, again take them out so they don’t start plowing in October, as farming automation is a bit broken better do manually. Come on man you are German, you should be pragmatic and efficient ;) just a joke :) by an agitated Pole ;) hate to see your wheat wasted, those field are only good for burning now ;)

Something I’d like from the game is a little symbol for how many people would be needed to plot a field when you plan it out. And maybe how much a back garden will produce.

  • @Vipre-

    @Vipre-

    Ай бұрын

There kind of is. The plot size is listed in Morgens and a Morgen is defined as "Amount of land tillable in the morning hours of a day by one person behind an ox or horse dragging a single bladed plough". Haven't done any direct testing personally but I'd guess one family per Morgen would be about right to start.

@@Vipre- oh. Well that’s very helpful for the fields at least. That wouldn’t help with the back gardens though since they count the whole thing don’t they. And even then not houses vs gardens, just the whole plot.

@@Vipre- I didn't know this exact fact but since I live in Sweden and Swedish having quite a strong connection with the German language. I just figured with my basic German language skills that it was related to something with the morning. And combined with some knowledge about how societies used to function and form their language, and somewhat still does, I essentially guessed that since the fields are something you'd work on throughout the day and the measurement used is similar to a time during each day. Well I effectively guessed it was something related to how much work you'd be able to do during the "morning" segment of the day. So it's really cool to learn the specifics and that my basic guess wasn't far off.

Pro Tip: Make 8 big plots for an extra family and add a huge vegetable garden. Make sure these people will be your farmers. When the fields don't need to be worked, they work in their garden. Lvl 1 housing boosts your happiness! Make 8 Houses, 16 families, 2 farms. The amount of food, people and happieness is OP.

make another circle road much bigger a bit out of the inner circle so the back gardens will snap to it, making them round instead of straight and having the back gardens in the place you want them instead of a small corner on the side of the plot

There is a good place for shrine in this triple road connection near circular village. It would be on Royal road on entrance into core lands of the local lord. And it would be pretty good waypoint for directions. Which was also a point of those. Edit, and then i noticed there is one already. Smh. Keep up the good work, it's genuinely fascinating when you talk about medieval village lore. Especially when i know identical villages across Poland.

Just beat the pre-release goal of large town and I found that, in addition to ox plowing being essential, anything larger than 1 morgan became very difficult for the townspeople to work when far from town. In fact many 0.5 fields on crop rotation was the most efficient when far afield.

I'm disappointed in ox plowing speed. It's still worth getting because of bakeries, but 8 farmers plow faster than one ox, you still need 8 farmers for sowing, and oxen are more valuable hauling logs.

Once you get the hang of where the components of the plot are placed depending on the 4 points, you can start surrounding the planned plot with roads and using the snapping to place the 4 points not in the 4 corners, and force the size and shape of the back areas. It takes some getting used to but I was able to use it to create some interestingly shaped vegetable patches that look nice in tiny little hamlets.

Love the series! Concerning your harvests: there is a lot of janky stuff going on with them harvesting earlier than necessary if you automate it and also sowing in August, which just drowns fertility for 2 months without actually generating any yield. Loving the series! Your dedication to authenticity and your history lessons are awesome! Just so you know, since you’re using auto crop rotation you only need families assigned to the farmhouse in the Autumn months. When using auto crop rotation everything happens in Autumn. Harvest is September, plowing in October, and sowing in November. Also, I could be wrong, but I've seen some people say that the "limit work area" function doesn't work when used on farmhouses. If true, I hope that gets fixed soon. Absolutely love the aesthetic of the new rundling. All the fields around it frame it very cutely.

With the fields .. if you hit tab key you can see how much its grown. I usually when i see its like 64/64 hit the force early harvest option. It helps manage the people to work on the fully grown fields as soon as possible. Im not sure its the best way but it worked great for me. I also do the rotation manually and choose the crop that is above 45%. Again not sure its correct but works great for me.

I really like the size of the fields for the first rundwalle. You should just have them work a few fields at a time and leave the others fallow. I feel that may have been something they would have done if there were plenty of space so that the soil could have time to regain its productivity. Perhaps as the town next to it grows you can reduce the size of the fields.

I don't know how difficult it would be to change the current plot system to go from a 4-point placement mechanic to it instead being a 6-point placement instead. I've noticed that there's quite a lot of times I am planning the placement of farms, villages, housing plots etc and I find myself feeling that I could achieve what I wanted to get by having access to just another two points to place down. But like I said, I don't know if it would be possible to make it work dynamically so that once you've placed down at least three or four you could click on the hammer and have it built. Or if you'd make it a setting each player can change. I don't know how much it would affect the coding at all nor how difficult it would be to implement it. But I do believe this game could benefit massively from the extra two placement points. Still it's a very fascinating game and very beautiful. And it all was made so far by one guy. Can't even imagine the amount of research they've put in!

i think it is a Confusing choice of investing development points to Trading before Farming tho, isn't it more efficient to invest into heavy plows first, and then going for Trading points? If currently having no Trading post built, but with no heavy plows to help the food production, then the previous investment into Trading points seems to be wasted.

Why don't you draw a rounded back yard by putting a second (round) road completely around the village? Also for hunting, I do believe that the wildlife breeds faster if they have a higher population, so you should get more meat per year if you set the bag limit to 18.
