Manning's Amusements - Now and Then

Ойын-сауық

Charlie Manning took over Butlin's in 1946, and the Manning family have ran the business since. Although the fairground is not as large as it used to be, there are still lots of enjoyable things to do, including an indoor Mini Golf course, Amusement Arcade, Children's Fairground, and an impressive market!
A massive thank you to the Manning family and those who work there. They were extremely welcoming and helpful with the process of making this video. If you are ever in the Felixstowe area, I highly recommend visiting.

Growing up in Ipswich in the 50s Felixstowe was our 'go to' place and I loved visits to Mannings including the big dipper...🤗🤗

Last time I went there the Arthur Daley cafe caught fire, got woken up in the middle of the night to fire engine alarms and a big red glow in the sky.

I lived in Garrison lane in the fiftees and went to Langar road school. My mom took me to butlins many times.

I wish more people visited this place back in the day and it could’ve grown into what thr creator probably imagined,I grew up here and I certainly know how much me and my friends would appreciate a amusement park , looks way better in the day

TheSarahshaun most of the older photos I have seen are included in this video that I've found online through research, a few of them were kindly shown to me by the Manning's workers, who let me take a look on my visit in July. They were very helpful!

TheSarahshaun haha, yeah. That happened at Frontierland in Morcambe too, it caused a few issues with operating the ride over there from what i've heard. The boats Mannings used looked very cute. I loved the theming the park used to have, very unique, especially for that time when theme parks weren't around in the UK.

most of us worked there through out the years - starting with my dad on the over under when it was buttlins, brothers that worked there - paul - mike- keven(dogems) - steve(waltzer) - me(dogems-various others) would do it all again - cant remember what I did yesterday, but can remember my time at charlies. to the right of the arcade was bill's mini bikes track there was an old converted bread van that my brother keven used to own and live in I used to stay they now and again when I couldn't get a life home

Wow, you can tell the place was thriving back then with that many staff members dedicated. Do you remember a log flume type ride? In a few older photos i've seen one near to where the funhouse is, however i haven't been able to find any information about it.

I wouldn't say ruined. Times have changed, the rides of old are superseded by huge corporate theme parks. Recently there has been an introduction of classic rides and carnival games to the park, only local support will help them from this point forward.
