Manly Residents Furious Over 'Fat Bikes' Taking Over Footpaths

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Manly residents are kicking off about the increasing prevalence of 'fat bikes', electrified bicycles intended for use on sand or snow, taking over footpaths, with many fearing it's only a matter of time before someone is injured.

It’s the kids riding these that make it more of a hazard/potential issue. Grown ups have that stronger road/safety sense and experience. That surfer has more a chance of getting bit by a shark than getting “ran” over by one.

Enforcement of safe riding practice is the key. Fully encourage youngsters to be riding bikes everywhere. I'm 62, riding for 52 yrs, & I also use footpaths when the roads are dangerous (but I do mainly ride on the roads)

Put an age limit on bikes, speed limit paths, eliminate the throttle...

In the netherlands removing the limiter/thrott makes it a scooter and because it doesnt have a license plate its illegal ( they also dont have a drivers license) so the bike is taken in without getting it back

fun fact. fatbikes are only bout a couple inches longer than any other bike not wider, thats determined by the handlebars width which any bike can have. so anyone moaning about fatbikes being too big might wanna try to understand basic stuff first. End of day its no different from cars or padestrians, you will always get muppets who act like they own the place and abuse others its only those individuals who should get punished.

Maybe council needs to do a twice daily clean of the streets so there's no glass on the road, guaranteed that's why these riders are riding on the footpath

Have you actually been on an esk8 or e-bike? They can be incredibly dangerous without experience. Be glad they’re putting in sensitive regulations versus banning them all together.

Maybe the bikes need to have registration plates if they traveling at 20-40km per hour.
