My great grandmother taught my grandmother, my great grandmother and my grandmother taught my mom, and my mom taught me. I know how to can, but I personally haven't canned myself by myself so I imagine I can. Its just something that my mom and I do together as mother and son.

Me too man. Pretty much everything that I learned about cooking and canning all came from my dear old Gramma. I used to help her out in the kitchen from 4-5 yrs old. Peeling taters and carrot and she'd cut them up. Taught me how to measure ingredients and later on, how to improvise and make cookbook recipe's better suited to your own tastes. My wife of 21yrs still can't believe that I never use a recipe for cooking, it all flows from the cooking knowledge passed down from Gramma. Hey, it also comes with a lot of trial and error too. That's why Grandparents are the best ones to teach you how to cook, many years of trial and error culminates into an experienced and well versed chef. I try to teach my kids, but to they're all to lazy and would rather just slap together what's in a cookbook and toss it on the stove, Crock-Pot or in the oven. Just no interest in trying to learn the art. I guess when I leave this world my secrets and knowledge will go with me because nobody that I can pass it on to cares about learning to cook. It's a shame. Kids these days

Been canning Venison for years. Great Grandmas recipe. We use cubed meat. In bottom of jar add 1stp brown gravy powder, minced onion, salt, and few other spices and then pack cubes of raw meat. It comes out tasting like roast beef. Best canned venison I’ve ever had. We did 100 pints a few years ago we try and do 1-2 deer every year.

Knowing how to cook, clean, and sow? Independence and self reliance, are cornerstone to the manly way. Women also love it when they are not alone in the fight to tend the house, and what is more manly, than a happy wife, who loves you and REALLY is thankful she chose you as her partner. Good luck with this new series. Love what you do.
