FYI. As the volume of the IFP is VERY small the pressure will drop SIGNIFIGANTLY when you connect the shock pump as the air will fill the hose and thus equalize. So when you set the pressure there it is set. It does not loose presure when you take it off - but will do so when reconnecting the pump. So it maybe wasnt't bang on 300 PSI but is was sure as hell not 140.

Nice video. So I have a Mara pro and I found with the large can it was too linear. (Did you not get into the can where you can change how large the volume is? Not unscrewing the can it is a sleeve on the outside of the can.) To remedy this i put the smaller air can on and then still had to get a volume spacer to go inside the air can on (this one I unscrewed the air can for) the whole time i was emailing with Manitou about my setup. When I first got it it was so wallowy and I would bottom it out on pump tracks. Now the shock is softer off the top with great mid stroke and ramps up at the end, and i was able to dial down the compression I run 26-28% sag. The amount of adjustability with this shock is impressive. I really want to try a mezzer and a mattoc. I have a mastodon and I love it.

It is also not just due to the negative air chamber that will make it feel plush as it sets the negative side from the atmospheric presure (from shock fully extended) and not ny a transferport like many other shocks do. So the plushness also comes from the low pressure in the pos chamber. also - the setup must have been wrong here. It looks like you bottom it out just while pumping with your legs. This is, just like the Mezzer, their big hit shock, so it feels very strange if that was a perfect setp and i just BLOWS through all the travel that easy...

The maraprohas great featuresand veeery good damping. But the old Design has its quirks with the sealed negative chamber. That means it cannot be that smooth as it could be and it dies not work well with everykinematics. Now the Gen 2 mara ist coming. It finally has the equalisation port, a new designed damping piston, tunes and a smaller oiggy bag and lever to make better clearance in more frames. The shock will be a completely different animal. Believe me, I already have the Gen 1 Mara pro which one tuner modified for me with equalisation port.so so smoothamd supoortive. And manitou even optimised the aircan itself for the new design. So thisthibg will be great

You may want to take another look at what the IFP pressure should be on this shock. Just watched a video where Manitou reps talking about the shock and mentioning they set themselves apart from other shocks in that they only require IFP pressures to be at 150psi.. So that shock reading you got actually checks out.... EDIT- i did just look at their service manual which states 300psi.. Confusing.

@@OtterMTBtech I have Dorado Expert (swapped out from a fox 40) on my DH bike with IRT upgrade and Mezzer Pro on my trail bike that I take everywhere else. I have tried a lot of forks, these are the ones that work the best for me. The damper is extremely good IMO, and the air side is extremely good at forming the curve how you want it but is is quite sensitive to changes in pressure. It takes a while to find the correct setting but once you do it's very good. Dougal/shockcraft from NZ knows a lot about tuning them. I never used him but I have asked him questions and he knows all there is to know about manitou products.

@@OtterMTBtech Fox and Rockshox use a dimple on the inside of the air can so the pos and neg chambers equalize and it's usually around the sag point. Upside is that your negative is always at the right pressure. Downside is that there's a dead spot in the shock, and it equates to 5-10mm of wheel travel. Manitou don't have this dimple or dead spot. So to set your negative pressure, you have to take off and reinstall the air can. You can put the shock in the freezer to increase the density of this air and the pressure in the negative according to pv=nrt that we all know. But air will slowly leak out of the negative so you'll have to re-set it periodically. I do it once a year.

@@OtterMTBtech Probably, but to be fair, Manitou's setup guides are not the best. What would make this shock perfect would be if they added a fill port to the negative and an easy swap damper like Formula have. The Mara Pro is really good in the stock tune for riders 150-180lbs.
