27 years later; today Janis can still bring it...
Some people kid me for liking this group (we live on a ranch where country music rules), but they are awesome! Always have been a favorite of mine and always will be.
RIP Tim Hauser. I loved your music. You will be missed.
Janis is awesome.
I had to sing this in primary school for an assembley lol.
On this day in 1981 {August 22nd} the Manhattan Transfer performed "The Boy From New York City" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand Three months earlier on May 23rd it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #7 and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100 It reached #8 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart Was originally recorded by the Ad-Libs in 1965; their version peaked at #8 on the Hot Top 100 chart In the UK in 1978 the Darts' version peaked at #2... RIP Mr. Clark

OH, but the hours I spent in the pool and eating hotdogs with this song in my head...... Thanks! :)
Oh, my gosh they are so goovy!! I wish that they would come back to the D.C. area again. I love the way the woman in the pink does the twist. What a great talent. Iris AKA -Feisty Mom

Our Jazz choir totally did this song, and we even did a music video to go with it. I love Manhattan Transfer, amazing!
You are so right about the lead; she is Janis Siegel and she rocks. Pipes is right. Janis has extensively recorded and is in great demand. Check out the other videos available for her.

The Manhattan Transfer really can sing, and this was demonstrated in the song "The Boy From New York City" this song is a classic. bduncombe

Need to learn the solo parts for this song...!!!!!!!! I need to try out and actually get a part for school
In case you're wondering, this is at a concert in JAPAN. Manhattan Transfer... "Big in Japan" He says: "Tatte Kudasai" which means... "Please Stand" Also, conservative crowd free from hollerers (that would show disrespect) is a dead giveaway.
Great Song And Singer
one of the best in the world..............

80s genius, still want to find a partner every time i hear it
Great vocal fireworks!

Ohhhhh me quedo estupefacto con el talento de estos super chingones n palabras tengo ashhh
Wow, who knew you could get mens shoes that color before the invention of crocs.
In which Janis Siegel tears the roof off the auditorium. Would ove to know where she gets her energy... Have viewed many of the MT videos on KZread, and am concluding that this Japanese concert may have captured them at the peak of their powers. Exceptions being Offbeat of Aveneus and the powerful 'So You Say' from their Brasil album, wherein Cheryl Bentyne gets to show her dramatic range and power.
Gosto!
It’s the Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant’s song! “Paul Jones, you will be a Bald-Headed Geek!”
I have the second verse solo for this!!!
Oh, they have incredible voices, no question. But they`ve had better days. Although when I was in 8th grade, about when this song came out, I was fuzzy on who exactlty "Boo boo kitty"??? was.
this is fucking LIVE guys!!!! =D
I just like if for being the theme song of wrestler "The Boogy Woogy Man" Jimmy Valiant.
i like both versions (haven't heard the Darts'), but especially love The Ad Libs'. Honestly, they aren't that different, but that being said, I don't understand the critical hoopla over the Manhattan Transfer. It's really like they got a lot of credit for rediscovering a great song ignored in its day. Fun performance here though.
the lead singer reminds me of the girl from the movie, "My big fat greek wedding."
nutpret--To see another side of Tim hauser, go give the video of "Killer Joe" elsewhere on youtube a listen. Tim is more than a legacy.
They knock me on my ass. This is what real music sounds like, people.
