Mandrake: The Witches' Plant in Northern Europe

The Mandrake is plant often associated with witches and as one of the key ingredients of poultices and ointments which help inducing hallucinations. There is a considerable body of information concerning the mandrake and its uses both as a medicinal and as a powerful element within traditional folk magic. However, little is known about this plant in Northern Europe, but there are interesting historical evidences that help us understanding the medieval Nordic mentality (an evidences of the survival of someanimistic perception in the European Middle Ages) towards the mandrake and its uses and associated folklore. This video will also serve to point to the importance and necessity to contextualize and carry out documentary criticism for all primary sources. I hope it is useful.

We might eat nightshades But they have very little to do with any naturally occurring nightshades and very much designed by humans by “breeding” (the english term has escaped me at the moment) And probably very different family of nightshades than some of the more harsher nightshades

I was born and raised in Iceland and today I learned that the mandrake is the Icelandic national flower. I have seen it all over the country but I never knew it was a mandrake. The instructions for harvesting the root are interesting to say the least. You will need a rope made of dog skin that was braided on Sunday. During summer solstice you dig around the root and tie one end of the dog skin rope around the root and the other to a bull and make the bull pull the root up. But then the root is pulled there will be a loud boom that can kill you. To protect yourself you'll need to wrap your head in a skin of a skoffìn which is a mix of a cat and a fox there the cat is the mother. Easy-peasy.

I think that makes sense... Laughing aside and from a "magical world building prespective", magical ingredients could be regular stuff around, they only become "magical", based on the ritual done to "unlock", their magical properties, kinda like activating a code, or a talisman. The root could be just a plant root if tajen by hand like any regular plant, but if harvested via a ritual, it opens up the potential for its "cheat code" potential to warp reality

Just the last week, some people here in Italy had to go to the hospital because they had eaten mandrake leaves that were sold as fresh spinaches...they got lucky, but had bad hallucinations and felt very sick. We are often uncapable of recognizing the plants, and we should be oh so much more careful...

Haha, great video. thx Since i was little, i had it in the yard where i grew up. And Eastern Europe is full of witchcraft and these type traditions related to Mandrake. Right next to the town where i grew up, there was a valley of witches, established somewhere in the year 1500 and that lasted even during the years of communism, where there were witches that people went to see and speak with them. After 1990 they disappeared, the valley still exist and is and has a special vibe, very close is Iulia Hasdeu's castle, where famous spiritualism sessions take place in late 1800 and it was a very active area. But in Romania, almost until communism, witchcraft was something on every street. Grandma, neighbor, etc. And all kinds of events and stories. But yes, Mandrake, I had it in my yard and I got into yoga when i was 18 and many other things, shamanism and when i was 20, in a summer-autumn i collected Mandrake and ate about 1-2 grams a day, before bedtime. I had bought a book about Mandrake and the tradition in the Carpathian area. It took me about a month, pure nonsense and stupidity, but I was experimenting :)) It was quite an interesting sensation, it also feels poisonous somehow, like something heavy in the body and a slight feeling of trance. In a way, it resembles the amanita muscarita in vibe, as if it were somehow from a common story.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to try or use Mandrake. I have used it but I did through good solid advice prior to taking it. And totally incidentally, I own one of two very early Viking Christian artefacts, and the first one is Odin’s Sun Cross, which has a beautiful patina on it and shows the transition between the Pagan Viking era and the Christian one. Very interesting, but lengthy video. Many thanks.

I find the relationship between plants & humans very interesting, they have natural healing properties that we have forgotten & that the huge Pharmaceutical companies don't want us to know. The bark from the Yew contains a powerful anti-cancer agent Taxol which can be used to fight breast cancer & other forms of it. I could go on n on as this is a very big rabbit hole lol. We need to look to our past & our relationship with nature more than we know.🤟

An interesting connection between chay nephesh, living flesh, and the oil, shemen, of identity therefrom. Once did I blank my mind of anything so there was no impurity and from the result smokeless, non-oxidizing lead. Strange things exist and that I cannot explain nor necessarily feel like testing again, as I was younger and didn't think of how it could be something dangerous to toy with. However it works, perhaps the cooking of certain oils, animal or plant, into metals is how they achieved that iron pillar in India which forms an oxide layer that doesn't flake away. More like patina than rust. Essentially like oiling a blade to prevent rust, only the heat opens up the metal enough to carry that power beyond the external.

The alternative that they sell is a related species I believe (can’t remember the name off the top of my head), but much cheaper to obtain and find in N. America. I have my personal thoughts on this but others might find this helpful.

Don't make that mistake. Podophyllum peltatum is May Apple (aka AMERICAN mandrake) is of the family Berberidaceae (Berberry) NOT mandrake. Mandrake is genus Mandragora and is of the family solanaceae (Nightshade) from Europe, not the Americas. Atropa mandragora is now classified as Mandragora officinarum. You must learn the binomial nomenclature of plants, the 2 part scientific name, or you will make mistakes. Mandrake and American Mandrake are absolutely not the same thing.

There's a channel called Mind Unveiled. Two college students, most likely graduated by now, the male studied codes of arms and old maps. Researching stolen history. they are a little monotone, but I would guess easier for you to understand. I have actually found books supporting a lot of what this young couple is giving you evidence for. Their view of the whole world is really changed and more concise after each video. I think you would enjoy it. Look at Tartaria episodes it's a rabbit whole with too much prove and I found a few books to prove it.

The first form of the Bible was written in 325BC, 80 years before the Antikythera mechanism, and was called the _Vaticanus Graecus;_ Son of the Divine Serpent, a reference to Fomalhaut in Aquarius, the sign associated with John the Baptist, who was a Setian, the root word of Satan. Just as israel is the Phoenician word for Saturn, or El, Fruit of Isis and Ra. In the Second Century AD Astrologer Vettori Valentinus used the _Vaticanus Graecus_ to construct a lunar zodiac of 13 months, this correlates to the 18.6/ 19 year Metonic Calendar, found in the earliest known ancient temples, the Bible, Antikythera mechanism, New Grange and the Bru na Boinne, the Chaldeans, Egyptians, Assyrians, Celts, Phoenicians, and inscribed into the Golden Enoch Horns of the Magi, the Galatian (Celtics of Galicia in iberia) Eunuch Druid Priests of Cybel, or Kythera, the "Great Mother", (who has 216 names) in Germany and France. A Druid took 19 years to train, and the Phoenix was associated with 19 flames. Our 24hr clock has 86,400 seconds in a day, just as the sun is 864,000 miles wide. Enoch also wrote 36,525 scrolls, which is 365.25 times 100, the Egyptian number of perfection, which allowed them to calculate things to the second decimal place. The Great Pyramid is a Calendar, based on the Metonic Cycle and the Zodiac, hence the association of Osiris with Orion, and Pleiades Isis, atop the back of Taurus, just as the Phoenician Princess Europa, who rode the Bull. The entire Mediterranean region was also mapped out according to key constellations, marked by these Megalithic structures, which themselves encode these numbers Other names for Isis include Semiramus, Aphrodite, Europa, Kythera, Cybele, and Cylene, Matre theon, The Great Mother, Gaia, Pipitunaka, Titikaka, Gebel, Jabal, Sophia, Elisheva, Hathor, Sekhmet, Cassiopeia, Caileach, Kali, Ashura, Hera, Astarte, Asheroth, Ishstar, Inanna, Helen, Diana, etc. Her Scion and consort, is the reincarnated soul of her lover, portrayed portrayed as a Holy Mountain and a subsidiary peak. He also has a lot of names, from Horus to Herakhty, Hercules and Thor, Marduk, Pan, Baal, Og, Lugh, Attis, Athor, Heracles, Melqart, Apollo, Zeus, Eschmun, Queztlcoatyl, etc and seems to denote Sirius as well as Ophiuchus, hence the Sothic calendar, The Byblos Baal, or Book of Baal is the Phoenician Almanac, a coded book of Astrological cycles used by the Priest Class of Egypt; the Phoenicians, to navigate the oceans. Phoenicians, Celts, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Egyptians and Jews all started the new day at Dusk, and celebrated their New Year in September, the 7th month, the Sunsign of Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer, associated with the healing Gods, and marked by the first New Moon in the 7th month after the start of the Zodiac in Easter, when Ophiuchus is the East Star. In September the East star is Helel in Orion, (Helel means Shining One, associated with Lucifer) aka Osiris, aka Set, Lord of the Dead. Hence the Aleph, and the Zayim, Alpha and Omega. It's also the Birthday of Jesus, and when he said he would return, at the end of the Age during Rosh Hashanah. It's reversed to keep the code secret, and written in metaphor so no one could know what was contained therein. The Metonic cycle, in chronology, is a period of 19 years in which there are 235 lunations, or synodic months, after which the Moon's phases recur on the same days of the solar year, or year of the seasons. The cycle was discovered by Meton (fl. 432 bc), an Athenian astronomer. En-men-dur-ana (also Emmeduranki) of Sippar was an ancient Sumerian king, whose name appears in the Sumerian King List as the seventh pre-dynastic king of Sumer. He was said to have reigned for 43,200 years His name means "chief of the powers of Dur-an-ki", while "Dur-an-ki" in turn means "the meeting-place of heaven and earth" (literally "bond of above and below" ie Arc of the Covenant) A list of ten kings was composed in Greece c. 280 BC by the Babylonian priest Berossos, and their reign totals 432,000 years. In the Icelandic Poetic Edda it is said that there are 540 doors in Odin's heavenly hall of warriors: _Five hundred doors and forty there are tween in Valhalls walls;_ _Eight hundred fighters through each door fare. Where to war the Wolf they go._ The war with the Wolf was the recurrent battle of the gods and anti-gods at the end of each cosmic round. Here we have 540 x 800 = 432,000. In the Mahabharata and Puranic texts, the cosmic cycle of four world ages numbers 12,000 divine years, one year corresponding to 360 human years for a total of 12,000 x 360 = 4,320,000 human years. This is broken down into yugas as follows: Kali = 432,000 years or 1200 x 360 Dwarpa = 864,000 years or 1200 x 360 x 2 Treta = 1,296,000 years or 1200 x 360 x 3 Satya = 1,728,000 years or 1200 x 360 x 4 The integer 1200 represents the sum of the years in India for a cosmic cycle. 1200 x 201 = 241,200 1200 x 380 = 456,000 1200 x 360 = 432,000 These numbers correspond to the Sumerian tablet list of ten kings who ruled for a total of 456,00 years, a second tablet which lists only eight of these kings with a total of 241,200 years, and Berossos' list. The Book of Genesis lists ten patriarchs from Adam to Noah and the Flood totalling 1656 years. In the Jewish calendar one year is 365 days. In 23 years plus 5 leap year days we have 8400 days or 1200 seven-day weeks. If we multiply 1200 x 72 we get 86,400 or the number of Jewish seven-day weeks in 1656 (23 x 72) years. Since the Babylonian calendar year was composed of 72 five-day weeks, then in 432,000 days there are 86,400 Babylonian five-day weeks. Then in 432,000 days there are 86,400 Babylonian five-day weeks (432,000/5). Thus the Bible concurs with the other lists as well. The Greek Ages also bear a close correspondence to the four Yugas of the Hindus: Krita-Yuga, Treta-Yuga, Dvapara-Yuga, and Kali-Yuga. Their method of calculation is described by Ullamudeian as follows: "In each of the 12 signs there are 1800 minutes; multiply this number by 12 you have 21600; e.g. 1800 X 12=21600. Multiply this 21600 by 80 and it will give 1,728,000, which is the duration of the first age, called Krita-Yuga." If the same number be multiplied by 60, it will give 1,296,000, the years of the second age, Treta- Yuga. The same number multiplied by 40 gives 864,000, the length of the third age, Dvapara-Yuga. The same multiplied by 20 gives 432,000; the fourth age, Kali-Yuga." (Note these multipliers decrease in inverse ratio to the Pythagorean tetractys: 1, 2, 3, and 4.) The Essenes studied the Mysteries of Pythagoras. His name means Heart (Bel) of the Serpent. The star Alphard is at the heart of Hydra, and is known as the Vermillion Phoenix in China. The cycle of the Phoenix encodes the astrological calendar by which they removed 3 days every 630 years. This was expressed in a Pythagorean Triangle of Dimensions 216 by 630 by 666. 6 x 6 x 6 is 216, there are 2160 years in an astrological age, and the Moon is 2160 miles in diameter, the solar metonic calendar using 60 6 day weeks produces 1 extra day every 216 years. There are also 216 Megalithic seconds in a day, and 216 letters in the name of the Hebrew God Stonehenge embodies the Egyptian cubit in that it is 100 metres wide, 2160 square feet in area. The height of the Great Pyramid in feet divided by Euler's number is the square root of Pi times 100, multiply by two is 354, (the number of days in 12 Lunar months of 29.5 days). These number sets and astrological associations are the same for Megalithic sites found all over the world, from Egypt to the Baltic, India, Ireland, America, and the Pacific, there is only one culture that could have accomplished such a feat, and like the celts it was obliterated from history in 146BC when Carthage was sacked _"not one stone upon the other"_ to the fall of Tyre in 70AD, after a 13 yr seige. Sound familiar? 146 plus 70 is 216. The Earth's circumference is 40,075 kilometers, divided by 18.6 is 2150, the actual diameter of the Moon is 2150 miles, if we substitute 2160 we get 40,175 kilometers. The transition between Sirius and Al Nitak past the shaft in the King's Chamber happens over 100 minutes. Half of it's perimeter is equal to one second of the Earth's Circumference. It has an area of 13 acres. The hieght minis the base is Pi times 100. One Megalithic hour is 14,400 seconds, 240 minutes, or 4 hrs. One Megalithic second is 400 of our modern seconds, divided by 60 (to get minutes) is 6.6666666.... This means 1 Megalithic second is 6.66 of our modern minutes, meaning their metric system is based on the Full Moon, of which 360 fit into to the night sky, and 720 will encircle the globe, divided by half gives us the 360 degree circle, and the basis for our present hexadecimal system of time. Which is why 1 degree of Arc on the Moon is 100 Megalithic Yards. This means the Beast, the hidden hand of the Masonic fraternity, is the Moon. The Dionysian Masonic Architects of Solomon's Temple also used hexadactyl poetry, perhaps expressing the 12 mathematical constants, found within the Great Pyramid themselves memorized as allegories. Dionysus worship arose at the same time as Arkenaten's cult of Atum. Arkenaten was born Amunhotep IV, his father's name translates to Hermes Trismegistus, or Amunhotep III, as Amunhotep means "Happy is the Moon" a reference to the New Moon. Enoch and Hermes Trismegistus are the same character, placing his Emerald Tablets/ Scrolls in the Ark of Amun, and burying them under Pillars of Emerald and Gold, the only Temple that matches this is the Temple of Melqart in Tyre, which means Rock, and sat just offshore from Urshu Shalom, City of Peace, or City of the New Moon. The relationship of the Megalithic second to our current form is mathematically proportional to the ratio between the Sun and Moon. A Megalithic second is 6.66 minutes (400 seconds). A Megalithic Minute is 40 minutes, or 2,400 seconds. Divide that by 60 and you get 1,440 seconds. Divide by 60 again and get 24. There are 216 Megalithic seconds in 24 hours, and after 216 years of 60 6 day weeks (plus five days [plus 1 every 4 years]) this calendar produces 1 extra day. After 630 years the Phoenix comes and lands on top of the Pyramid (Solomon= Mountain of the Sun) Alter of Ra or Holy Grail, on the first New Moon of Spring when three days are removed, bringing the calendar back to perfection. The Pyramid Capstone was even called a Benben, named for the Egyptian Phoenix, but the Phoenix appears in every major religion, even in the Americas. The Moon is 2160 miles in diameter, the Sun is 864,000 miles in diameter. There are 400 seconds to a Megalithic second, the Sun is 400 times the size of the Moon. One Megalithic hour is 240 minutes, or 14,400 seconds. There are 6 Megalithic hours to the day, each made up of 6 minutes, each of which is 6 seconds long. If the Megalithic hour was divided into 60 minutes, each would be 1,440 of our seconds, times 100 is 144,000. The height of the Great Pyramid times 43200 equals the Polar Circumference of the Earth. The Circumference of the Base of the Great Pyramid times 43200 equals the Equatorial Circumference of the Earth. Half the base is equal to one modern second or 1/86,400 The base divided by the height is Pi, the Base minus the height is Pi times 100. 100 Megalithic Yards is 1 Arc degree of the Moon The height in feet divided by Euler's number gives the square root of Pi, times 2 is 354, the number of days in 12 Lunar months of 29.5 days. Enoch buried his 36,525 scrolls under Pillars of Gold and Emerald, representing the Gold and Silver Gates of the Milky Way, found between Orion and Serpentis, at 33 degrees and 216 degrees respectively, representing Osiris and Isis in Orion and Taurus, and Horus/Hercules in Ophiuchus; the Serpent Bearer, which is also shaped like a cave, where Jesus is born and dies, just as Apollo Aulaites, Son of Typhon in Cilicia, which was the home of St Paul/ Josephus. Apollo Aulaites is also known as Zeus of the Cave. Thoth was also seen as the Son of Tphens, Horus as the Sun/ Son of the Dawn (or Dusk) The only Temple in the world that had pillars of Emerald and Gold was the Temple of Melqart in Tyre, Tyre means Rock, and sat just offshore from Urshu Shalom, City of Peace, City of the New Moon, the root of the word Jerusalem. Enoch, Metatron, Hermes Trismegistus, and Amunhotep III all appear to have the same nomeclature, Amunhotep means Happy is the Moon, the New Moon representing Peace and a Full Moon representing War. Hebrew and Iber as in Iberia also have the same root, meaning over, as in over seas. Anglo comes from Ankh, meaning Angle, or to bend, perhaps denoting around the corner, as Plato describes Atlantis being beyond the Pillars of Hercules, being the same Pillars of Solomon, or Melqart, the Gates of Gibralter, or Gabriel's Alter, due West from Tyre, the direction of the rising New Moon. The Christian Cross derives from the Cross of Baal, the Phoenician Sun God, their Almanac, and secret to navigating by the stars was preserved in the Byblos Baal, the book we now call the Bible. All mythology is based on the transit of stars through the seasons, and even today in India and New Zealand, at opposite ends of the earth, they celebrate the Summer and Winter Soltices based on the appearance of Pleaides, seen as a bird, sitting at 33 degrees of the Zodiac. The famous Hummingbird of Nasca is a representation of Pleaides, used by navigators to find land in the Pacific, also the Phoenician Princess Europa rode the Bull of Taurus just as Pleaides, Paris too is derived from Par Bull and Isii isis, being founded by Celts around 500BC. We still use the Phoenician alphabet, sound out our words phonetically. In fact the written word itself derives from their use of sounds instead of Heiroglyphs. The Quran states the Tower of Babel was built by Pharaoh to meet the God of Moses, Babel is the ancient name for Cairo. Babel is also a term for English, and Babylon derives from the first cry of a newborn baby. Britain too is a Phoenician word, the Tin they sourced there Brightened their copper, making Bronze, the material they traded through their maritime network, secretly guarded against would be competitors. This sacred Enochian calendar is encoded within a Pythagorean Triangle 216 high, 630 wide, and 666 on the slope. This comes from a sacred Jewish family secret, and is based on the 19 year Metonic cycle, it took 19 years to train a Druid, England, Scotland and Ireland being home to the same Ancient Mystery schools as found at Edfu, Harran, Cilicia, Jehdi, and Tatooine. There is also an etymological correlation between the words Mathematician and Magician. The most sacred numbers of the Celts are 3 and 11, the proportions of the Great Pyramid in relation to the Earth and Moon is also 3/11. Egyptian beads have been found in both Ireland and Norway dating to the time of Arkenaten, the only 3 Mummies they've been able to DNA test all matched the modern British population. The measurement is derived from measuring the time it takes for the full moon to pass through an aperture formed by two horizontals, as seen in Japanese Shinto Shrines, the rope being used as a pendulum to mark a short period of time. If we made a halo of full moons around the earth there would be 720 of them, divided by 2 is 360, thus we have the 24hr period broken into 2 sections of 12, which themselves divide into 360. Japan was also the last place where Dolmens and Megalithic structures were built, right up until 1000AD. The Shinto tradition is analog to Judiac tradition, and uses the same metonic calendar, and noting each year by the Reign of the presiding Emperor, much like Ancient Egypt. This is why the number 13 is sacred, as 360 divided by 13 is 12. Hence the clock actually has 13 hours on the face, just as Ophiuchus the 13th Starsign completes the circle, marking the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, Resurrection of the Dead, when Orion and Pleiades rise in the September sky. The Great Pyramid, and it's twin in Teotihuacan are 13 acres square at the base. It means our understanding of the metrics of time and distance, the foot and mile, kilometers and metres, seconds, minutes and hours all derive from the size of a full moon in the sky, especially as expressed in an eclipse, and relates to the Saros or eclipse cycle (322). The leap year is solved by the Olympic games, occurring once every 1461 days, just as the Sothic cycle is 1461 years. The games of Lugh in Ireland go back 5000 years. Even Antikythera means opposite the Great Mother, Kythera. Genesis 8:4 _and the Ark came to rest on the Mountains of Ararat on the 17th day of the 7th month_ "The NWO will begin Sept 17th 2001 during the first Crescent of the New Moon, Rosh Hashanah Feast of Trumpets, Resurrection of the Dead, the year 6000 of the Great Pyramid Calendar, in order to cleanse the Earth and Humanity in preparation for his Kingdom on Earth" British Israel Foundation memo 1922. Urshu Shalom was the name of the city next to Tyre, which means Rock. Urshu Shalom means City of Peace, or City of the New Moon, the root word of Jerusalem. Islam derives from this same root. Shiva is a Hebrew word for 7. Hebrew and Iberia also share the same root, meaning over, as in Overseas, or the ability to sail overseas, like the Phoenicians, who pioneered stellar navigation. The Pole star is called the Pole Star because of its use in navigation by the Phoenicians, it's old English name being _Ship Stare._ In ancient Egypt the Priests who watched the stars were called Horoscopoi, Watchers of the Hour, Hour being related to Horus, the Son of the Dragon, or Dawn/Dusk. A rising star is Masculine, and a setting one feminine, Atum, and Evening, being androgynous at the Zenith, and responsible for what happens on Earth at the time. So the Sun and Moon and their Metonic Calendar bring Order out of Chaos, the Ancients also saw stars as eyes, hence Ezekiel's vision is a representation of the Zodiac, or Mazzaroth in Hebrew, and the strange descriptions of Angels... Daemons being the stars of winter, or the Underworld; Invernos, the Sun and Moon were seen as the Left and Right Eyes of Horus. The Arc of the Covenant, and Garden of Eden are metaphors for the Square of Pegasus, Typhon, aka Ladon, aka Tphens or Jorgumandr are Gaia, or Hydra, the 100 headed, which takes up 100 degrees of the Zodiac. Hence the Son of the Dragon denotes both the first star at night, and Fomalhaut in Aquarius, shaped like an eye, the Sign of John the Baptist, a Setian, the root word of Saturn, or Satan. The Pheonician God of Healing was Eschmun, his Egyptian Sarcophagus found in Sidon (means fish, the Phoenician Symbol for fish is *X* hence Xmas) is inscribed with a short poem, the longest unbroken piece of Phoenician language we have, in which Eschmun, whose Temples were built over hot water springs, was known as the *_Scion of the Widow_* (Isis). His symbol is the Caduceus, the Serpent Staff of Asclepius, which can be found in the hands of Hercules, at 210 degrees. Around the staff is Cerberus, the 3 headed Serpent and guardian of the entry to the underworld. The same symbol you see on the side of medical vehicles; the Winged Serpent. Sidon is also where Jezebel daughter of Hiram and wife of Solomon came from, as well as Pythagoras. This points a lot of fingers at Rameses II being King Ahaz, King of Tyre, Regent of israel, aka Solomon, who built the Temple of Melqart to mark his alliance with Hiram Abiff, King of Assyria, creating the Neo Assyrian Empire in 911BC. /abs/2009ASPC..409..487R/abstract

I hear this often, so I wanted to give perspective to it. When you say you are communicating with spirits in a practice, you would say it is simply practing that religious activity. Even if it is an unorganized believe in an area, it is religious in nature. So from that perspective it is that kind of practice. It might still have been seen as spooky or creepy by the natives to that land. Witches were often mistrusted by their own people or feared. We know this from what does survive. A Christian is going to view that pratice, given Christianity is true, as communicating with a demon or spirit of the dead. We would agree you could communicate with the dead, but it is not accepted in Christianity by these means. So, that is ok sorta. Those Christians would have prayed to them to assist also. Communion with the dead, well saints. Now, when you are using spells or incantations with herbal items, then we are into communicating with a demon. It was believed, from long past times, that those false gods were in fact either made up or demons. So from there perspective that is correct. You have misunderstood the being you are talking to, as it is deceptive in nature. So when you say Christianity changed it, not really. It is like saying that someone using a different language to say tomato changes it. The perspective is different, but the object is perserved. You are talking to a powerful being that will do as you ask for a price or as your wills align. Where does that leave us? History is written by the victors and often we lose many things that would tell us who a people were. This is true of any group moving into an area. I don't think it can be helped, but I mourn the loss with you. To not know what was is often a sad state of affairs. Don't let it color your daily state of affairs. I worry that people forget their own past, as they decry others past. Let sleeping dogs rest.

@@dpc3324 Not only Catholics do that. The other churches with, "Orthodox" in the title also pray to Saints. So, yes others too. One down. Second, this is talking historically & yes historically they did, as the other churches haven't branched off at this point in history. The other churches you speak of are the Catholic church. It is in your history, like it or not. Current practice not withstanding. Third, a little humility please, you don't need to correct everyone while ignoring the context of their statements. Looking to why I said it is important. Slow down some, your going to fast. Also, I didn't claim it Biblical. So, there is that. Of course, the Saints claimed it was accepted in the early church, and on principle you are only asking another Christian to pray for you. The fact they are not living isn't something that changes that, since we believe they live on. *The afterlife is real, they aren't truely dead.* Sorry to come down on you, but you just came at me with this. You asked for it, so you got it. We all fail, but that is a bad show for a Christian. I assume you are one. Are you?

@@mackdmara Christ nor the apostles told us to pray to the saints. Sure the Orthodox Church could do that as well as Catholics, I don’t know any orthodox Christians to say that is the case but you’re probably right. But to say that is a Christian practice is not necessarily right, as that is a doctrine and tradition of men and wasn’t what we were taught to do by Christ or the apostles. Why would I need someone dead to intercede for me when a major purpose of Christ coming to Earth was to tear the veil and let us have direct communication with God? Praying to the dead doesn’t make any sense, as it just adds back in a layer of separation from God which Christ came to do away with. Maybe next time say Catholics and Orthodox people pray to the dead, because Christianity is defined by Christ’s teachings in the Bible and not man’s teaching. The only reason I made that distinction is because I follow the teachings of Christ and not the teachings of dead extra-biblical saints

  • @mackdmara

@@dpc3324 Sure. No problems with what you said, in fact I would even agree. Easy right? As we know though, they are alive in Christ. Saints aren't gone, they are with us in a sense. So we can commune with them in a sense. I would think. Are you of the camp that the dead are unconscious? You seem to be saying it. I don't want to put words in your mouth though. Let'sfully consider it though. Why ask your friend to pray with you? Because, "When two or more are gathered in my name, I am with them.", Christ has told us. You might need a second. There is one thing I think might weigh in. So, unless a person is saying saints are gods, there is no prohibition in the Bible against it. I want to allow as much as is Biblically acceptable to people. *Saying no to that is a teaching of men.* It isn't written, you were taught that though. Hmmm... What is said by God is the truth. The part we insert between the lines is our will. If God didn't say you can't, then you can. There are real divides in the church universal, this shouldn't stumble us. Of all things, this is a minor point. As Mike Licona has said, "Don't major in the minors.". Little things like this we should over look to extend grace. It doesn't effect savation or hurt worship. I wouldn't worry over it. Yes?

I am a pagan. Well over 20 years ago, my group agreed to facilitate a Sowan ceremony in Cleveland in a public park. (We were traditionalists and mildly sexy at the time--small world.) When we arrived, with our own homemade ritual bread, we discovered they had prepared 'magic' cookies for the ritual with mandrake as an ingredient. But not real mandrake, 'American Mandrake' which is actually Mayapple, an entirely different plant. Both would be diasterous and dangerous, handed out to random people including children. We hid their cookies under a table--I think a couple members stamped on them--did the ritual, and got the hell out of dodge. When we didn't hear sickness among homeless people in the park we were very relieved, and never had anything to do with them again. Herbs are NOT a game, people. Some of the compounds in Mayapple are being investigated for possible use in chemo--and this is the important part--as selective poison. BE CAREFUL!

Yahshua - you know Him as Jesus - was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, calmed the storm, and fed a crowd of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, among many other things. He was killed on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus/God (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4). Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came in the flesh to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name! if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. - Matthew 26:6-13 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. ... To anoint your self, the sick, or a building for spiritual protection: Get a small bottle of olive oil and pour off a small amount into a smaller vessel like a vial or baby food jar. Use the rest of the bottle for cooking. Ask the Lord to bless your vial of oil in Jesus name. Anoint yourself with the oil by placing a dab of oil on tip of finger and touch it to your forehead, and ask the Lord to bless you/heal you. To anoint your home or other building: place a dab of oil on your finger and anoint the door posts and order all negativity and evil out of the house, and order that nothing negative or evil can enter into your home including piggybacking on a person entering, order it to be so in the name of Jesus. Anoint all potential entrances to your home. To anoint the sick: place oil on tip of finger and touch it to the head of the sick and say a prayer of healing over them in Jesus name. See James Chapter 5:14-15........, ...
