If Rashford leaves then either khvicha kvaratskhelia or nico williams should be bought. It balances the wings. Amad is more a 10 for Bruno and Mount for Mainoo position. With potential 60 games, players have to be rotated. Need a backup defence, CM and wingers

Ugarte, Mainoo, Bruno, Mount, Collyer, Rabiot, McTominay, Hannibal would be good options I think. Sign 2 Cb and have Shaw as a backup CB. And we know we are signing a LB. I think it works

Just completely ignored Rashford who’s at least a £60m asset. If they sell him then they’re definitely bringing in a top new winger.

Selling Rashford and buying Nico Williams would be incredible. Rotate Garnacho and Diallo on the right so they are in competition. Zirkzee and Hojland fighting for the striker role, Ugarte and DeLigt and I'm a very, very happy boy. Top 4 and a cup run would be acceptable too.

Ste, relax, 3 weeks ago it looked like we didn't have a manager, a backroom staff, structure in place, just a lot of talk about getting them. Now, we're sat here essentially with 3 managers, new GK coach on his way, a full structure, just waiting for Berrada to be able to bin the last of his burner phones and the builders are in at Carrington. A lot can happen in a few weeks. You clearly missed out Rashford, who if he does go will mean a quality replacement. We will get Branthwaite or another leftsided centreback and we will start Martinez from Leftback like City do with Ake. Moving into a back three in possession with the rightback advancing. Shaw will be cover for Martinez, same role and if we want to switch to the leftback advancing then we have potentially Malacia and Amass too, can't all be injured surely. Deal with it in January if so. We won't give up on Todibo either, even if Lausanne buy him and loan him to us. We're just trying the direct route on appeal first. Ugarte for Casemiro - Collyer/Mount understudy for Mainoo - Zirkzee or Mount understudy to Bruno or either flank - Amad, Garnacho, Rashford, Pellistri - if AWB goes we could see Frimpong targeted and would work as either the advancing Rightback or rightwing - Amrabat an easy addition if we want more. Ineos haven't assembled the biggest collection of chefs since last years Master Chef finals for nothing, the fact that Vivell is in a temporary recruitment position for this summer tells you they're cooking something big up. How could this be a list of what we have now if you have left out, Greenwood , Sancho, McTomminay, and a few more. This is a list of what you want to have.

Now all we need is the EPL to change the rules and allow us to stand on boxes for set-pieces and we'll be fine!

Solid cup run, should be able to compete in Europa. Aim for top 4, see where we are in December, make signings if we need to and then reassess in March.

StatmanDave Breakdown of how Zirkzee could fit it's very interesting Ste. He's broke down a formation of a Højlund & Zirkzee within the same team (Midfield of Kobbie/Bruno/Zirkzee). Looking at him he picks up the ball deep and could have good linkup play with the wider players and Højlund & Bruno like a False 9. Ugarte or Kobbie would have to do DM in that system but definitely offers us more power in middle of the park and options.

I agree that it's a 5/10 squad. 6 at best and unless he's planning a major integration of the kids to do some Ajax madness, I can't see how it'll be much better next season if this is what we get

Ste is spot-on here with everything. I do suspect that they will sign all of the current targets (Zirkzee, De Ligt, Ugarte), but they'll still be short another 3-5 players to have a world-class squad that can legitimately compete in all comps. To me, the biggest things that will determine how this next season goes are 1) Rashord's form and 2) injuries. If Rashford gets back to decent form and injuries don't decimate the defense, I think that will greatly cut back on the number of losses, which is really what killed our chances at top 4. I wouldn't count on Rashford even being around at the start of the season, so if they are going to sell him (I back Rashford, so I personally wouldn't sell him just yet), I'd rather they do it ASAP so they can put that money towards bringing in another winger.

I think the squad you listed might get top 4, but it will be a struggle - there will be some serious competition for Top 4 next season. I think United's best chance of Champions League in the 25-26 season will be winning the Europa League.

Mount and Rashford are starting ahead of Mainoo and Garnacho.

Kobi Mainoo is the best midfielder ever. Come on, Mr Howson. It's too early for that kind of compliment. His fantastic player, no doubt, but a long way to go b4 getting that kind of compliment

Think if we get a fully fit mount this season will help with midfield and wing cover, hopefully clear off deadwood: Casemiro, DVB, Sancho, Greenwood, and Varane (released) will make a massive clearout to wages impact and maybe try to bring in some cheaper options or free signings and then potentially looking at selling some players with value: Rashford, AWB, Maguire, McTominay and look to bring in low risk-low reward player signings. Likes of overachievers in Championship clubs that play a similar style as what ETH wants to implement

We need to clear out the deadwood, ageing players on bumper contracts and maybe sign a couple more of those 'smart' 35-50m signings with the money we get from those. Its still early in the window so who knows what opportunities can open up towards the end - we might be able to sneak in 1 or 2 more signings or some free transfers if we think the squad needs beefing up due to injuries etc. Also Ste you forgot about Rashy, yes he might be on the move but to plan without him would be a huge mistake

Id love to sign a world class right back and just vmchance that Shaw, Martinez and De Ligt stay fit. Not sure who that right back is though? Reece James???

I’d lose McTominay to part fund Amrabat staying as backup to either of the midfielders. He’s already here, seems to like it, improved once he got a run in midfield and wouldn’t bitch about being a backup. The only unknown not mentioned is a new left back. Maybe Mount can kick on too. Who knows. I’d keep Maguire. Not seeing Rashford mentioned. What is he now? Backup to Garnacho on his wages? Us not being able to lose Antony - the money’s already spent on him and his wages aren’t astronomical. Let’s see if his value goes up this year. Can’t be any lower than it is right now. Backup to Amad.

Really skeptical about Ugarte, Mainoo midfield....With that midfield, we are not keeping possession of the ball and dominate the midfield against decent opposition, which means we will again resort to either long balls from defence or a high line high pressing scheme which is risky..We need another passer and line breaker in the midfield

We'll have the same problem, first choice 11 will be good, rest of the squad tapers off badly after that. The big difference here is that Ugarte and de Ligt should have 7-8 years in them so we can actually build the rest of the squad in the following windows (I don't see either being a disaster, especially Ugarte coming as a DM from France looks like as straight forward a switch as you could get)

I'd have to sell Wan-Bissaka also, to be honest. Offensively, he's not at the level United need him to be. He's 26 and he hasn't shown much improvement in that department in the 5 years he's been at the club, so he probably never will. And Maguire lacks the fundamentals to be a top level centreback. He's too slow for a high press, too cautious, doesn't scan, he's a liability for an attacking side. And he's 31 so he's past that point where he might improve. Van De Beek needs to go. He lacks the ambition to play for a top side and the courage to impress. Maybe playing for a smaller club would help him. Sancho needs to go also. His attitude sucks. But we won't get what we paid for him, we'll be lucky if we make half that back. Greenwood should also be out the door. Whether he did or didn't do it, the club cannot afford the negative publicity which comes with his name and if he were to stay, I would imagine that sponsors would have something to say about it. We'll do well to get £50m for him. Lindelof should also be going. He's not good enough to play in a side challenging for honours and that's the level the club needs to be aiming for. Rashford is the big question mark. We don't need to sell him, he's got a few years left in his new contract but he was absolute garbage last season with a few discipline issues and a poor showing in front of goal and a disconnect with the fanbase, suggests that his attitude is also the problem and that maybe a move would be the best thing for him.

If you look at the free agents this summer there are definitely squad players that can cover injuries effectively. Rabiot, Hermoso, Ndidi, Ndombele. Even the likes of Matip, Spinnazola and Giroud. Christ, see the likes of Cuadrado there. 36 years old, but I'd rather be bringing him in than sticking Kambwala out of position. Throw some of these older heads £40k a week to come in for a year as 3rd choice.

Steve, I know it’s controversial but maybe do a piece on the possibility of Greenwood staying. Let me get this straight, I’m not saying he should. But I’m trying to be objective. What if he did? The blowback from fans and media would be massive. Protests from women’s groups. But eventually that would all die down. That said, Greenwood would have to deal with fan abuse from opposing supporters for the rest of his career. Rooney shagging a granny x 1000 levels of abuse. But he also still with the girl. Nah, it would not die down, yeah he is a baller, and yeah it would die down, but the example united would be setting is us saying we are pro domestic violence and sa, remember he was not proven innocent, so as far as we are concerned and the stuff we know, he probably did that. Saying yeah she is back with him is not a great argument either bc as we know it's a complicated topic which us men are shockingly not well educated in, so there would need to be complete transparency on what happened and that can backfire massively as well. We need to also accept this is not the Beckham situation where it was the rest of England vs United in 99, it would be England and a majority of united fans vs a minority of united fans, we might as well get 30 mill for him and call it a day. People are acting like the "attempted" part in the charges didn't exist, maybe just maybe she knows him better than everyone else does and knows the charges were overblown. Lawyers do that both parties can compromise and settle closer to the truth. Everyone I've ever known to try and fight these battles has always been a bit of a scumbag, or treated women poorly in the past and think condemning the next guy will erase their past. And doing it in public seems to be far too appealing to them. And again I'll say it, Mason Greenwood had everything given to him from incredibly young, even employing his dad as his agent as a teenager. The club must really take some responsibility for this. Everyone jumped down Southgate's throat for cutting him from England for breaking the rules, ironically the only ballsy thing he's done in that role. Erik ten Hag's treatment of Garnacho for poor time keeping is another good example. He got his punishment, and a way to redeem himself, he then took it seriously and earned his way into the starting 11. I don't think Mason Greenwood ever experienced that at this club and probably needed it. giving a teenage boy (especially in a sporting context because his testosterone will be peaked) everything he wants and pandering to him is always a horrific idea

Pulled our arses out of the fire a few times last season, and made the players who earn 5 or 6 times as much look like a bunch of whiny little bitches. Plus, when that "Starting team" starts getting bullied at set pieces and everyone starts screaming about "why are we so shit at corners and free kicks", and eventually realise its because the team is way shorter than the opposition, someone over 6 foot in midfield might actually prove useful.

We ain’t getting Yoro, no chance. We should go for Diomande or hijack Anselmino instead

That weak left side and high risk would cause me ro go back after a Regulion as starter with unhealthy Shaw and Malacia as backup. Almost loan malacia if he isnt guaranteed ready. Also Eriksen, Mount, Hannibal and McTominay now are both 10s and backup to Bruno. Maybe too much depth there. Need 2 CDM on assumption Case leaves. Gore if healthy a good shout. Rahsford on LW backup and Pellestri RW doing very well with Bielsa Urugauay.

Feel like this was very pessimistic. Lets stay positive tbh till after the we see what happens in the window. I also think rashford stays which gives you rashford on left and garnacho on right with amad/antony as backup, needing +1 winger

Sancho and greenwood ain't leaving

Think keeping Amrabat is sensible. He's just up to speed with whats required after a slow/sloppy start. How long for Rabiot to adjust to the prem? Amra prob costs a lot less in wages. Rabiot's demands sounded ridiculous last year if i remember correctly. Can't sell Rashford on top of everyone else. Bad squad management and it leaves us really short up top even if Zirkzee comes in. LB is the biggest question mark for me. Not sure the Todibo deal is as dead as all are making out. Would be happy with Yoro either but not as confident we can convince him. First 11 is competitive but it falls off big time

@@Sam-bd7gp You might be right but if we lose Ugarte or whoever they get as a DM to injury isn't Amrabat a like for like replacement? we need cover for the system instead of having to play people out of position or in less optimal roles? Rabiot would prob be a good shout to come in for Kobbie but surely Mount has that covered

Amra already being in the system and seeming to have a good work ethic and attitude, knows he's 2nd choice, too. Those are all positives. And he showed spark at the end of the season. It's a tricky choice. Rabiot is probably the better, more versatile player. Covering 6 & 8...a big plus for your back up. I'd want to stick with Amra and it seems EtH has plans to bring in Collyer a bit, too. In a pinch we can also use Zirkzee or Amad as a 10, given their creative side. Bruno, Mount, Mainoo at 8/10 - we're short here! (See why Rabiot as 6/8 works...😅😅😅) Ugarte, Amra, Collyer at 6 Sell: Eriksen, McT, Cassa

Your midfield that you've decided on there. No rabiot, no wriksen and bring in one or two, including ugarte and it's levels better.

Move the Yoro money to Oliseh as the Bayern transfer hasn't been finished. Get free agents like Hermoso, Ndidi as well. Keep Rashford if can afford that.

No mention of keeping Amrabat? he is a great back up for Ugarte and Mainoo. The Jurys out but he has performed at every other club he's played for. Fell off when coming to united like many other quality players have done over the last 10 years. Give him another chance

@@MarkusMaximus He has, and his wages aren't over the top, but its still more money on another midfielder who doesn;t help in the problem that we lack options in midfield with critical height. If he was 6'3" or 6'4" I'd say "Yeah, he'll be useful off the bench in games where we are getting dominated in the air. But even then, McTominay fills that role. When he played well, he was good, but we can''t keep relying on people who only have a few good games before sinking off again. Unfortunately, for the bench based role we need him to play,, he plays better when he is playing regularly. If he's not a first choice and is a stand-by, then he's unlikely to start ahead of either Casemiro, Mount, Mainoo or the player we are alooking to bring in as the first choice, should Casemiro go. I don't dislike the guy, I just think it's money better spent elsewhere.

@@andrewtomlinson5237 Slightly bizarre reason not to want Amrabat, although I don't disagree that if we pass up the option to buy (not sure if this has expired now) I won't be too unhappy. My main reason is he's not good enough on the ball. it's time we woke up and realised that modern football has passed us by. Our running power in midfield has been shocking for too long. The best midfields combine running power with comfort on the ball. It's why Palace destroyed us because Eze and Wharton out run, pass and dribble better.

Yoro has been tapped up by Madrid who'll sign him and Davies on a free next season ala Mbappe

This is wishful thinking as Steve doesn't realize bringing players in and selling is harder than it used to be as all clubs are looking for sustainable futures, and that's why you have higher transfer fees now and I think man utd fans need a dose of reality

Honestly think the squad is just a year too young if you know what I mean. The likes of Rasmus, Garnacho and Mainoo need another season and most of the squad is maybe a year from peak. Another season and some additions and the title challenge will be real

Not really though because then Bruno will be coming to the end of his career at 30 plus. Still need a RW, rasmus even if he's class will need back up. LB isn't trustworthy, dalot has no competent back up. Who's the back up cdm IF we sign Ugarte and he gets injured? Still a long way to go

Don't get all the shaw hate in the comments, now is definitely not the time to get rid of such a key player. Last season was a freak occurrence with both the left backs out and our medical staff having a 'mare.

Too pessimistic. If we get the players we seem to be after there will be a new tougher attitude in the team.

Shaw's one of only three outfield players in that list over 6 ft tall... Malacia is 5' 6"... The kid's good, but we can't afford to lose anymore height from the team or the under 16's are going to be better than the first team at set pieces.

Hopefully, but let’s be honest - he was found out plenty of times when he was fit. Him being out this long is concerning. Eriksen was out of football for less time - and he died.

Idk how garnacho takes 7 shots a game and comes off with 1 on target while holjund has a shot a game and scores but somehow Garnacho gets glazed by every united fan while Holjund gets shit like "he's not ready, he's unfinished".. Garnacho is WAY further from the finished article than Holjund.. if Garnacho had slightly better decision making Holjund would have a lot more goals and he himself would have a lot more assists.. but everytime he's in the box, no matter the angle, the kid shoots.
