If Baby Lasagna wins, it would be equivalent to Denmark's 1992 Euro story. He wasn't even supposed to participate in Dora (Croatia's Eurovision song pick contest), he got a chance only because another contestant quit at the last moment. He didn't even write this song for Eurovision, it was supposed to be just an "album filler" song. It would be quite some story...

Not only the backstory, the lyrics also show that. Idk what he’s saying about upbeat happy lyrics, they’re heart wrenching. He sings about how his traveling can’t cure his trauma from his parents dying before finally burning down his ‘childhood house’ to be able to move on with his life.

Joost found his mother on the sofa as a 13yr old, a year after his dad passed away from cancer. She died of a cardiac arrest and that moment Joost lost everything and had go to into care. Hense the burning house at the end of his clip. He lived with an older brother for a while but ended up in crisis care. Most of the lyrics are about seeking help all over Europe but not finding it anywhere. Joost described his song as a collective of happy memories from the time he had both his parents and watched ESC back then. And he wants to give today's kids a fun song to remember they watched with their parents...like Joost did once. He even said to his parents: One day I'll be on that podium....

Some camerawomen shoved a camera in his face directly after and refused to stop filming. Joost made a threatening move towards her to force her to stop filming. Then she filed a complaint. She was filming so there is evidence and that raises the question why they took so god damn long to decide before disqualifying him. He was already harrassed by the Israeli KANN NEWS journalist who also harrassed the Irish and Greek singers and a Spanish Journalist. They all filed complaints but no santions were made against him.

San Marinos entry is in Spanish btw. The band is from Madrid. Ironically they attempted to enter for Spain last year (notice the Benidorm line) while Nebulossa tried to enter for San Marino last year and now they both made it but for the other country.

Anyways, Europapa and Joost will never be forgotten, it's still a banger of a song. I had a lot of fun seeing Joost perform on stage for the Netherlands. It's weird how you're not an Eurovision review youtube channel and somehow you make the best review videos on the subject!

I'm a Eurovision addict and it's amazing to see someone usually not focused on Eurovision make a ranking video ! These are the best, nothing overanalyzed, just "I love this, I don't like this,..." This being said it hurts to see Azerbaidjan and Slovenia so low on your list, but also finally someone who has this same awkward feeling about the Cyprus song !

Very sorry to say this, but Finland is NOT an SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRY. IT IS NORDIC. I can forgive you this once, but not again. Every single Finn will get mad if you call us Scandinavian, it is just in our blood. I even don't know why, but still DO NOT CALL US SCANDINAVIAN... THANK YOU.

I have bad news for you, it seems like all the rest of the world will call Finland Scandinavian. I honestly didn't know and I'll try to remember, but I gues somewhere this misconception has grown worldwide... I always thought all countries with that type of cross = Scandinavia.

As an Irish Eurovision fan this is the most hyped I've been for my country since 2011 and I feel that we have picked a great representative for us and no matter what happens I can be proud of my country this year and infootball terms it kinda like going from Sheffield United this season to Real Madrid. also during their second rehearsal they have makeup on them which had ancient Celtic writing which translates to Ceasefire.

The reason the Netherlands is not number 1 in the odds is the jury. In the televote it might be 1st place, but the jury won't have it in the top 5 I expect.

I felt sad when they excluded Joost Klein from the final. They said it was because of an incident in the backstage, and that probably was very serious incident as it lead to them getting excluded, but I am sad that the incident happened at all in the first place.

The San Marinese song is in Spanish, Megara is a Spanish band and they have a pretty cool story - they competed in the Spanish selection last year and were rejected this year, didn’t make it through the semifinals at the San Marinese selection it got put through in a “second chance “ round, and then won the selection. Spain’s act, Nebulossa, competed in the San Marinese selection the previous year but didn’t make it past auditions. Crazy switch!

one small correction and one fun fact about san marino: -the song is actually in spanish since the band is from spain -loredana berté, italian singer who was very popular in the '90s, tried to represent san marino by participating in the contest (unfortunately she came second). why? because she wanted to go to sweden. to pay a visit to her ex husband. bjorn borg. yeah, the tennis player.

I’m from Sweden. I absolutley love Käärijäs music. But I wanted Sweden to win in 2023. Yes Ik it can be unfair bc We got so many points from the jurys. But the Jurys are the Og. Remember before when only jurys could vote in Eurovision.

In six hours' time I am off to Malmö for a week's Eurovision. Got tickets for all the three live shows, couldn't afford to get rehearsal tickets as well this year. We agree on a lot (Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, UK) but way off with Azerbaijan which is my favourite!! The voice of the man with the moustache is beautifully haunting, and the song has a nice electronica beat to it which reminds me of my Buddha Bar chill-out remixes. Just makes me smile! great video, haven't watched any others from you so I don't know but nice work, and it surprises me watch someone from abroad (of Spain) with a Betis shirt haha. On the topic of songs about Europe itself, I would like to add that in the contest of 1990 for example, there were quite some songs because of the European Union treaties and stuff like that, but yeah, this topic could appear more than it currently does

I also have very little music knowledge and watching you give your opinions is just fun. I'm team Netherlands too. Slovenia way too low imo. Ireland are definitely one to watch, the rehearsal clips look sick. Also MEGARA are Spanish and the song is in Spanish. Literally anyone can enter the San Marino pre selection as long as you pay a fee, which in turn pays for San Marino's participation fees. Funnily enough, Nebulossa didn't even make the semis of San Marino a couple years ago, while Megara also completed in the Spanish pre selection last year. If you want more Eurovision, national final season is so fun and you end up with a playlist of bangers double the length of just the songs in the main competition.

As many already mentioned "1992 Insieme", I will mention the song that was not even about Europe but about Eurovision itself which 1980 Belgium's entry "Euro-Vision" by Telex. It was written with pure intention of going last, but sadly (for them) they came third to last because Portugal gave them 10 points. Highly reccomending checking it, one of my favorites of all time.

I agree with most of your favorites, my favorite is Croatia, its fun catchy and they have never won so it would be nice. Estonia is very underated if they have a great staging I think the crowd will go wild. France could also be a big surprise there are very few ballads this year and his voice is stunning. I am Italian so of course I love Angelina too. Europapa is fun too but maybe it is 'too' Eurovisiony ??

.... I call Iceland's entry the "Weight Loss commercial" song not going to lie. My top songs are Greece, Switzerland, Armenia, and France. But honestly, I really like most of these songs. I haven't even looked into what most of the songs mean, or even watched all of the music videos. It's based entirely off of the songs themselves. As someone who's nonbinary, finding out that it's what Nemo's song is about? That... explains a lot honestly. Honestly, after finding out about the close ties between Luxembourg's song and the song a lot of us rank 37 and just don't acknowledge? I don't really want anything to do with it either, so it gets an automatic 35 from me. Would be 36, but that goes to Azerbaijan, because I honestly don't think they should even be allowed to participate personally given their actions in Armenia over the last several years. (I honestly listen to a playlist on spotify that just... fails to add them to this years eurovision playlist.)

What I'm getting from this is that you're probably saving seeing the stagings for the actual contest. There are currently 30 second rehearsal videos for all of the songs and the betting odds were highly influenced by them (Switzerland dropping from first and Ireland climbing to eight, etc.) I'm not sure if you decided to not talk about the lyrics and ending of Europapa on purpose, but in case you weren't - the song is actually dedicated to Joost's parents who died when he was young. In it he actually sings about traveling all over Europe, but still feeling pain wherever he goes. This is reminiscent of some of his other songs (Florida 2009, Papa en Mama) who also talk about his parents' death, but in comparison to them Europapa is about letting go of that trauma. That's why in the ending of the music video we can see all of his memories burning, as he's finally letting them go. And finally here's my top 10 this year: 1. Croatia 2. Netherlands 3. Switzerland 4. Lithuania 5. Estonia 6. Italy 7. France 8. Slovenia 9. Armenia 10. Greece (I'm also really salty about Estonia being so low in the betting odds)

Sweden sending marcus and martinus is so iconic, every girl my age (including me) had the BIGGEST crush on them in like 2017. Haven't heard of them since but I'm so looking forwards to that.

fun fact: Marcus and Martinus played semi-profesional football in their country of birth Norway. Their club actually play against Bodø/Glimt (yes, the club that smashed Mourinho's AS Roma 6-1). They also played against Rosenborg B team where Maecus scored twice.
