I wondered why someone would grab a wild deer by the antlers, then noticed the man was already wearing a helmet which explains everything.

Here in Colorado a Darwin award winner did something similar. This was by Red Rocks Amphitheater, this kind soul had family visiting from out of state , so he decided to take them to see the deer in the foothills during the rut . On this particular day his brother in law was filming him approaching an area where there was a dominant buck with 6 does , once he got close enough , the buck decided to meet him and this guy grabs the antlers , and thinks he's providing entertainment for his guests until he realizes he's getting tired and the buck seems to be getting more serious , anyway , Einstein sees a tree about 25' away , uphill , and yells at his brother in law who is filming , "I'm going to let go and run and climb the tree ." He got gored in his hind quarters .

As a teenager a big ol ram used to chase us around the farm ramming us, I'd grab him by the horns and hold his head to the ground quite easily. That crazy goat loved it and would always come back a few times to try again. These deer antlers look way more dangerous but I always wonder about their strength. And as for animal cruelty get a grip. That deer gave zero fucks about this interaction they aren't as soft minded as us.

@Spodo bbb yea, I'm from SC originally and I know from many encounters with various animals in both the wild and in captivity, the difference in their behavior between animals that have and haven't had many encounters with humans as well. This deer obviously has been around many humans, or else he'd have never even got close! Deer are agile, with excellent senses and fast as lightening, but also are highly prone to, and easily tamed down to that of a common pet. So much that I've seen them walk up and eat sweet corn feed right from your hand.

Yes, he wrestled a bear once and the name stuck and apparently in your opinion he is an idiot also. This is no different than a rodeo where young men ride bulls, and rope calves and young women barrel race and its called a sport. Ever hear of it? I guess you are against that too. You all sound wimpy and sissified and probably many of you live in a large cities. If you have ever worked cattle you know the risks of large animals and possible injury. Troy had a little fun and you are all bashing him for no reason. It took guts to wrestle that big buck and yes he could have gotten gored and I'm sure he considered it before taking the buck on. I noticed he put his gloves on before grabbing the deer and he had a hard hat on. This tells me he is accustomed to hard physical work. How many of you haters own a pair of leather work gloves? Very damn few I'm sure, if any. This man knew what he was doing. The deer was not hurt and if you look at the videos of deer in rut they sometimes fight to the death and are super strong. So, get over your sissified anxiety.

Too stupid to perceive humans as largely non-threatening? Probably not. The buck has probably been around people for most of his life and I wouldn't be surprised if he felt being within 5 feet of a person was ok. To be clear, I don't think it's likely that that's the case, but it's certainly possible. And actually, I don't think deer are dumb at all, as far as animals go anyway. They're capable of learning from past experience, all I'm saying is that they aren't intelligent enough to intentionally seek human help.

I also said it was unlikely that was the case, but that it was possible, so I don't really see how one could take much issue with that. I'd say it's likely there was something wrong with it, but I'm not really sure what. Also, I've never seen a deer with cwd, but I'm not sure it would cause it to walk up to people. id say the comments are like working around a die hard atheist who has to make everything about religion. but i agree with your point, people need to chill. was the wrestling smart...nope, the human could have got gouged, but the deer wasnt hurt and doesnt care for all we know the deer thought the human was playing. ever watch dogs "play"?

@@jasonbrown467 The deer probably had CWD because it got so close without caring. If you're a hunter you learn to respect what you hunt, and pulling it's antlers and swinging around on it is as disrespectful as you can get.

The dnr came and put the deer down like five minutes after this video, he had chronic wasting disease. They blasted the deer then chopped it's head off. I don't think him grabbing the deer was that big of a deal as far as harming him since the dnr killed it anyway.

Can you please post the link to the CWD claim or where you found this information? Believe me it's not going to change my opinion of the video but still would be nice to know. I notice your name is Carlie Kitty Luver so if one of your cats were sick like this and someone just decided to grab it by the ears and throw it around for a bit before it got shot, it's ok? If the deer was sick, it deserves to be put down humanely and ethically; not have to knuckle heads wrestle with it for enjoyment.

Joe Cook.My mother in-law was with the dnr when this happened. And Hillbilly, I'm on my daughters account and she loves cats, and no wouldn't like that to happen, that was a dumb thing to wrestle the deer, but I think grabbing it didn't harm it as badly as the disease was harming the deer.

Thank you Joe. Regardless of the CWD and if the deer was sick or not, the people in this video made a poor choice, and I'm being nice with that comment, grabbing the deer. I love hunting and want to hunt animals with ethically and not put them through any unneeded suffering or anguish. No deer, or any animal, should be grabbed by the antlers and wrestled in this manner. Just a really poor choice by these guys.
