He was a fantastic right back & centre half at times. That boy could tackle. He was confident on the ball going forward & was a great defender, he played with his heart. I saw him play many times home & away with United. I’ve never met him, but he sounds like a very grounded bloke who has no ego. Wish him all the best for his future. He might have lost a few quid but he’s got his dignity & that’s worth far more….

I know what you mean but Rio was actually renowned around England in 97.. everyone wanted him including United who had a bid turned down by West Ham. Don't forget Rio is a year older than Brown which makes a big difference when players are breaking through at 18/19. To be fair even Wes's memory is shot too, as there was no game like he describes happen at Elland Road when he was 19 lol

Rivalry aside, this guy is a very grounded individual. I wish him well and hope he gets some of his losses back.

Im a Liverpool supporter, agree with Wes ,Wayne Rooney was a great footballer,I rate him as one of me top players I ever seen live, and I had a season ticket at Anfield back in them days,so I've seen some great players here in England and over in Europe,Henning Berg and Ronny Johnson both played in me Norwegian fellas club Lilestrom, before joining man united, both won the treble and both x Lilestrom players.

Wes was awesome for SAFC when he did play, just could never get a good run going, be that because of injury or odd disciplinary issues.
