    While I do find this somewhat humorous in a way, his poor family is suffering. Imagine all the years it took them to save up that money. No, this is not Robinhood. That's a lifetime savings of a middle class couple. Probably their retirement.

    @@MoonLitFRANK so what did he win? the money was obviously on a joint account so she worked for that money too. and if he was divorcing and let us assume he would lose half the money. wouldn't you rather lose half than everything? in my opinion if he is on the brink of divorcing he didn't throw out the complete 200 k but just a couple of thousand and hid the rest. that would be more logical. but than that would be stealing from your spouse. i wouldn't believe this that quick tho if i was his wife and were already talking about divorce i would have sued him. because i would bet my life on the fact majority of that money is hidden somewhere.

    @@Jessicaro the Appellate Division defined dissipation as "where a spouse uses marital property for his or her own benefit and for a purpose unrelated to the marriage at a time when the marriage relationship was in serious jeopardy." If the marriage was in trouble he effed up! But for arguments sake let's say he found out about an affair and DIDN'T confront her or let anyone know he knew, it'd be difficult to prove dissipation of marital assets! This is why every marriage should have BOTH separate and joint accounts!

  • @Jessicaro

    @Jessicaro

    Жыл бұрын

    @@davidsmnje yeah but the police said in their statement and let me rephrase it but in the lines of if you know that your marriage is in trouble take half of the money out of the joint account. so we can assume they were already on rocky ground and he probably took it out threw a bit on the high way and hid the rest. i am also amazed that you can just take out 200 k in the US without the bank getting involved. signatures of both or at least a phone call to the other person on the account. here in Europe you take out 10 k and you will have to answer a thousand questions from the bank.

  • @davidsmnje

    @davidsmnje

    @@Jessicaro if the marriage was on rocky ground and his family(wife) can prove it, then it's dissipation of marital assets. Meaning the court will offset that amount against other assets. Say the house is worth 400k and would have been split 50/50 now she gets 100% If you can prove dissipation then the courts will make the necessary adjustments on what ever is left (property, cars, 401k). We obviously don't know the backstory so it's hard to say whether he could actually get away with this
