Man Overboard During Navy Reenlistment Ceremony
Navy Petty Officer Second Class asked for a quiet reenlistment in Glorietta Bay. Things didn't go as planned and a Navy Chief went overboard. Hilarious. #manoverboard #usnavy #navychief
Since the year 2000, 284 people have gone overboard or fallen off cruise ships and a further 41 have fallen off large ferries. In any given month, approximately two people go overboard and between 17 percent and 25 percent are rescued.
Thank you for watching.

Note that way before the incident, the “driver” (idk what you call that in the navy) was looking backwards to check on his passengers. This wasn’t his first rodeo.

@@tmayorca8770 it’s different being on a small boat compared to a large ship. Standard protocol is to yes keep pointing until you have confirmation that everyone has eyes on the man overboard and the oscar flag is flown. That is due to the size of the ship and the potential buffeting of large waves. On a small boat it’s different because you can easily relocate the man overboard given that he is wearing the required float coat/life jacket.

I was never in the navy but I was a sailor. You just keep pointing and looking. Everybody who doesn’t have another critical job has that job until your shipmate is back on board. The best way to get someone heavy into the boats are to dip the person up and down but not underwater. Then use the momentum in the upswing around the third dip to bring them aboard.

do they have plates in their plate carriers? thats one way to sink like a rock

Believe it or not for those pointing about the guys wearing plate carriers and not pfds , the Navy SEAL teams and SWCC crews wear plate carriers with plates that actually float. You can do a Google search but yes, there are plates that actually float and were specially built for maritime use.

I learned it that you point at the person overboard until the helmsman has confirmed seeing them. I was a bit irritated, that the helmsmen never stopped the screws. I learned to get the person in the water to the side of your boat and set the engine to neutral and let the boat drift the last bit, so the screw(s) never endanger the person you want to rescue. Looks like the helm came on too fast and had to backpedal the whole time.
I though he was going to get pushed in after raising his right hand
Wow ! I didn't know only 25% are rescued ! Falling off a ship is really hazardous to your health. My question , Do people get sucked into the propellers ? (or pushed away from the ship)

If you fall of in a habour its not a big deal out in the Ocean it is. People mainly fall over board in bad weather wich makes search and rescue much more difficult. Some ships cant eaven try an attempt for rescue under certian conditions without putting the hole ship and crew in danger.
