8 years… and this is still the best and clearest video ive seen depicting the modding for this figure! Planning on getting one, but was hesitant about the cape being elevated and the collar being too low. Thanks man!

You REALLY nailed this man. This should've been the official product, hands down. In fact, if yours had been, it would've significantly raised chances of me buying this. The original cape is one of the main detractors for me. I love the darker almost suede like material so much. It's a more earthly red, which the designers in the film chose for obvious reasons. Well done man.

Thanks for the kind words Silrian, I really appreciate it buddy. Yeah as much as I loved the original figure, just these small changes make it so much more accurate and desirable for me. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment Silrian, thanks.

I remember when we initially discussed the "issues" with this figure after the final preview image was released. It's amazing how these tiny adjustments help to make it more movie accurate. I still wish Snyder had done a better job with the filming and really highlighted how vibrant and brilliant the suit actually is. The image of Cavill sitting up from the operating table is a prime example of how cool the suit could have looked throughout the film. Still, a cool modern take on the Super suit. I was totally holding my breath while you and Barry were operating on the neckline. The end result is fantastic! One day I will add the Reeve modification to my collection. Thanks for sharing the process of this custom. It looks great!

I couldn't agree more Richard!! When I see those amazing behind the scenes images of Henry Cavill in the suit standing in the sunlight and the suits reds and blues are SO bright and vibrant....then you look at Superman handcuffed in the room and the colours are so washed out. It's a shame that's the direction he took....thankfully the Hot Toys figure does have the bright reds etc...i know i went for the darker cape but I do think it looks better overall. I'm really glad you enjoyed the tutorial Richard...lol yeah I was holding my breath too!! If you ever have a spare Cavill Hot Toys and the Reeve head, we'd have no problem recreating this for you!! hehe. Thanks buddy

Thanks Ivan, glad you enjoyed the video...I tried to cover every step to make it easy enough to replicate this and i'm really happy with the end result. I think once the crazy plastic shoulder guards are removed, the stock cape looks just fine in there too. It's a little more tricky to pin the original cape in but If you use a light glue in there it would do the trick too. Thanks for the sub buddy, I really appreciate it.

Maaaaaan this is soooooo AWESOME!!!!!! So little tweaks and the figure changed drastically!!! And all for the best! I would have never noticed the differences between the original HT and the movie without the comparison pics... Your brother, the dude that made the cape (sorry forgot his name) and you made it perfect!!!...ohh and Christopher Reeves' head, he truly WAS Superman! A+ grade here buddy! Great custom work, great review! Keep it up!

Hi Mr. Murray. My name is Don. I am new to the 1/6th scale figures and I LOVE the Man Of Steel Hottoys eventhough there is a new BVS Superman already released. You are one of my "go to guy" when it comes to reviewing. I just have a question. How did you remove the boots? Mine is stuck because the fabric of the suit is quite sticky so the boots is stuck and I am afraid to force it. I just wanted to stretch Superman's pants just like you did. Thank you very much.

I know you showed us images of this Stew but wow, loved seeing this video! Just a few changes made a huge difference! I especially like how the new cape sits. I didn't realize there was that hunk of plastic in there... that's just silly. It looks SO much better without it, plus closer to the S shield. I actually like the new pleats better too, they look more natural! Heat vision variant is cool too - would you be able to slip the battery pack through/under the cape? Might be an idea for others. Awesome job you and Barry did, best Hot Toys Supes around! ;)

Thanks Olivia!!! Really glad all the changes are being so well received! Yeah I'm so happy with the way it turned out....especially the cape and pleats etc :-) regarding the heat vision battery pack going under the cape, there's not much gap at the neckline. it doesn't really bother me though, the head can always be swapped out whenever I need to. The other version Barry makes (using an Iron Man head) has all the electronics actually inside the head with a very tiny switch at the back of the hair. I didn't really need that though, but it looks even cooler!! lol. Thanks again Olivia, what an awesome comment as always!!

Imagine how cool it'd be if you were able to put two tiny laser diodes- one for each eye- in the superman' s head :-O Then THAT would look like the real thing! Still I think this upgraded version looks better than the original. Good job, man! (Y)

MAN!!! That customization looks sick! Exactly what I would have had an issue with if I had him. Cape looks absolutely perfect now. Hey so I ended up getting the Justice League Classic Icons Superman figure like we talked about and its awesome... except for the cape like I mentioned before. Im not a fan of the "drooping" down in the back and the fact it has no yellow S which is a must for me. I was wondering, do you or your brother have any suggestions for swapping out a plastic cape? I would prefer that over a fabric one. Have either of you ever done it before? Like I said before, my taste is pretty much exactly the same as yours when it comes to supermans costume so any cape on another figure that you think would work id be happy to try. Or if you think maybe customizing the existing cape (filling in the drooping and adding an S) would be better? not sure how I would go about that though. Any tips you have would be great!! Thanks man

Hey Rick, glad you enjoyed the custom video. It really does look fantastic before and after the mods but so much more movie accurate now. I'm really happy it all worked out. Regarding the Icons figure, yeah it's a really cool version of the character and while I really like the cape, I understand you not liking the dropping look like the Alex Ross design. Lucky for you, that body has been used over and over and over again by DC Direct so you have a lot of options to fix it. I think the best option for you personally would be to track down the Superman Through the Ages Boxset John Byrne figure. It uses the exact same body type but like John Byrne's design, his cape actually goes over the shoulders and is quite tight to the neck too. The extra bonus? it has the yellow S on the back!! You could either get that figure and remove the cape and attach it to the icons figure...or.....keep the cape on the Byrne figure and swap the heads. Here's a link to my review of the byrne figure if you want to check it out. Hope that helpes: Superman Through the Ages Boxset - Man of Steel Figure

Hey buddy i love once again what you did with this. And the customization is amazing. Speaking of which, i hope I'm not too late in mentioning this but I've never owned a hot toys figure before but if i ever did i would definitely get this one. I'm also thinking of getting a detolf, about the man of steel figure i can get one from sideshow or big bad toy store, or eBay. Anyway, if i do i really would like to customize it such as yours with the cape and head sculpt light up feature, my question is if you and your brother have the time do you think your brother can assist me with this. After acquiring the figure of course. Really realistic henry portrait I've seen so far. Once again terrific review buddy and i really hope to see more. Man i can't wait for the Superman Premium Format. Hey buddy, call sideshow and tell them to hurry up, we're all waiting lol

Cutting into the MOS suit is a little nerve racking but it really is an easy mod to carry out the end result speaks for itself. So much more movie accurate and I'm so glad I did it. Thanks about the music, Richard is a great friend of mine and I love how fantastic his music sounds in my ending montages. Hey buddy thanks for watching! Sorry if my video put you on the fence of buying the figure!! Despite the little inaccuracies, it really is the ultimate collectible from the movie and the head likeness is second to none. I only modified mine because I'm stickler for details etc but the original figure isn't bad at all. As for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 figure, sadly I only collect Superman stuff so I can't really say which one is better. I've watched plenty of reviews and have seen some bad QC with glue soaking through Spidey's suit so if you're buying, make sure it's from a store that you can return and not eBay. Hope that helped and thanks for the comment!

Hi Stew u talk alot about the problems with the toy in respect to the movie and yes u are right these things aren't the same as they are in the movie. Now some people wouLd say that we are or u are being nitt picky or fanatical and they might be right. But like yourself I to could spend days agonising about the details of such products, and I have come to the horrible conclusion after 36 years of worry, that things in life are just not perfect, as much as I want them to be and that includes TOY'S.
