MAN OF STEEL was a 10/10 in my book😍Henry Cavill was so freaking awesome as Superman (I think I have a new CRUSH lol)🤩I wasn't sure if he was going to win me over since I am already such a big Christopher Reeve fan, but MAN OH MAN, he definitely won me over. His performance along with all the other actors in this movie -- Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Lawrence Fishburne--- were just marvelous. I gotta say I really liked General Zod despite him wanting to kill everyone and take over the planet... was pretty sad to see Superman ultimately kill him in the end. I could tell that was really hard on him🥺That gut wrenching scream Superman let out, tugged at my heart. The cinematography was STUNNING, BREATHTAKING-- the fight sequences and music were EPIC. Honestly, this movie was better than I could've ever imagined! So glad I gave this one a watch and thank you to everyone who recommended it to me. I hope you enjoy my reaction!

I have to giggle everytime I see your face, the first time you see Henry after he saves the people on the Oil rig, when he comes from behind the house. "Not gonna lie. He's pretty dreamy." Lol. And, the first time you see him in the suit. Hell, I'm a guy and I thought he looked great. Zack literally ripped Henry from the pages of a comic book.

Reeve* and sorry, but me being a Reeve fan, I think Christopher Reeve would have been extremely disappointed and appalled by this version of Superman being so careless about the destruction he caused, and Jonathan saying “maybe” he should have let those kids die on the bus. He probably would have been opposed to Superman killing Zod. Reeve understood the character and what Superman represents. Zack Snyder did not.

@@harryclarkhulk The damage was realistic. You are not going to have superpowered beings fighting and not cause any significant damage especially when some of those superpowered beings are hell bent on destroying everything. What was Clark supposed to do? Say pretty please and ask Zod and the others to fight outside of the city? Superman was trying to steer Zod away from Metropolis in the final battle but Zod kept on drawing the fight back to the city. Zod was going to destroy the city anyways. So, I don't see how any of the damage would have been realistically avoided.

@@harryclarkhulk Well, he is a rookie in this movie. Why do you expect him to make expert moves when he fought as Superman for the first time in the movie and against a bunch of Kryptonians? Even if he didn't cause some of that damage you mentioned there was still no way damage was going to be avoided. Plus, the military fought as well. You expect them to avoid damage too? People need to realize Snyder gave these films a more grounded and realistic approach. This isn't the '80s anymore.

Also notable about Zack Snyders approach to this movie. He is well known for his love of slow mo scenes (Sucker Punch, 300). He purposely chose to have NO slo mo scenes in Man of Steel. This was done to help portray the Sheer speed and power of a Krpytonian under a yellow sun. Not just from the perspective of us (humans) but the perspective of the Kryptonians...example, Clark chasing Zod through Metropolis among the buildings. He also conveyed this God like power in Clark and Zod using the buildings themselves as weapons. Truly incredible piece of film making.

The incredible and massively destructive fight in Smallville, The shot of him drifting out of the ship into space (a REALLY cool shot indeed.) The last second rescue of Lois, from a damaged escape pod that was about to explode (I've heard a few people complain over the years that he could have caught the pod and set it down.) The final Epic battle between Clark and Zod...'When Gods go to War.' And No, I don't believe Clark wanted to kill him...Zod gave him no choice. Lauren, this was a wonderful job. Another few reasons I dis not like Ben Affleck Batman was his suit, yea it had the colors but the bat symbol was too big and blocky, u could so obviously tell it was a muscle suit inside the bat suit cause we’ve seen Ben Affleck and he’s not built that big, and his cowl just looked too rubbery.

I read that when this came out people were split on it, which was baffling to me. People just don't know a good thing when it's right in front of them. Man of Steel is the most underrated comic book movie ever. I'm not a fan of a lot of what happened with the DCEU afterwards, but this movie has always been one of my favorites in the genre since it first released in theatres. It's not as bright and cheerful as the Donner/Lester movies, but it's also not as doom and gloom as I've seen others make it out to be. There's a lot of optimism and, no pun intended, hope in this one. Reeve will always be my Superman, but Cavill is also one of my favorite Supermen alongside Tim Daly and George Newbern. P.S. The other major difference in contrast to Christopher Reeve's Superman v Henry Cavill's Man of Steel is that there isn't this drama about hiding his identity from Lois. In Man of Steel, Lois knows Clark is Superman from the get-go. I think it makes their relationship all the more genuine as a result. Too many superhero movies focus on trying to hide their identity from their loved ones. I think comic book fans grow tired of watching that game on screen. I'm glad this was out in the open. -OG

I find both ideas to be somewhat unrealistic (which I know is a silly thing to say about a fantastical concept like super heroes). I think very few people would ever be as selfless and altruistic as superman, and most people aren't insane mass murderers, of course, and so wouldn't go full villain. But that has always been the root of my dislike for Superman as a character. The combination of him being so ridiculously powerful that very little is even a threat or challenge to him while also being so "perfect" of a person. Power corrupts, and it never seems like he struggles to do the "right" thing." That's what I liked about the ending of this movie. Zod forced Superman into a position where he had no good options. Superman made the better choice of the two, but I liked that he had to end the situation in a way that he didn't want, and was left to deal with the emotional impact of having his hand forced. I appreciated that.

Yes, Zod was very different from the old 1980 Superman II version. The Terence Stamp actor for Zod in 1980 was a typical villain wanting to simply conquer the world and get revenge on the son of his jailer, Jor-El. In this movie, the Michael Shannon actor for Zod used to be friends with Jor-El. They were both in agreement about the threat to Krypton dying and disagreed with the Council. But that's as far as sharing ties goes. Zod was bred for a single purpose. To protect and save Krypton. He saw what Jor-El did, having a natural birth, as heresy. And the fact that Kal-El chose to save the people of Earth over his own added to Zod's madness. Superman called Zod "a monster." But you're right. Zod was only doing what he was bred to do. His only singular purpose. Then Zod made it clear to Superman that only ONE of them would come out of this alive. Zod gave Superman no choice when he was about to vaporize innocent people with his heat vision. His cry of anguish certainly spoke volumes that he did not want to kill Zod. In short, (too late, I know) 2013 Zod was a character that had much greater depth than 1980 Zod. -OG

Love your reactions, Laurenn. I feel that I should point out that the only reason that Zod chose Earth was that Jor El sent the codex there, and that the only reason to implant the codex into his son was to restore Krypton (on Earth). Jot El KNEW that he was sending it to an inhabited planet! Ultimately, Jor El is responsible for what happens and for everyone killed by Clark and the other Kryptonians. (Because you can't do what they did in the middle of an American city in broad daylight without killing a lot of people). In fact, Superman takes Zod from the Kents' farm to a heavily populated area (with an iHop). He didn't have to kill Zod either. It would have taken less strength and effort to turn Zod's head than to snap his neck. But Jonathan Kent, Superman's moral centre, has already suggested that 'maybe' Clark should have let a bus-load of kids die, so what can we expect?

One thing a lot of people companied about was when Superman killed Zod. The big outcry was "Superman doesn't kill ever!" Thing is, that's not true. In the comics, in issue 22 back in the 80s, Superman fought a Zod from another reality, along with his two cronies. Superman was faced with the realization that he has no way of containing Zod, like in this movie. And like in this movie, he was forced to kill him, and his two cronies. In the comic, he actually used Kryptonite, but the end results were the same. Like in the movie, the act of killing was traumatizing for Superman. He mourned Zod, like he did in this movie, and even suffered a form of PTSD over killing him.

In comparing the Christopher Reeve Superman to the Henry Cavill Superman, we also have to compare the time frame and the comics published leading up to the different movies. Superman of 1978 was very much like the Superman comics I had grown up. It was very campy but so were the comics. As the comic book publishers realized that the 12 year olds that they were marketing to were still buying the comics as they became adults, they started to write for an older audience. Man of Steel reflects the changes to Superman that happened after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Even though I grew up on those campy Silver Age comics, I prefer the more modern take.

The soundtrack was always great, Henry made an excellent Superman and the movie could really show what Supes can do, I grew up with the originals but this Superman movie is my favourite. IMPORTANT TIP FOR WATCHING THE SEQUELS - Watch "Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition" then watch "Zack Snyder's Justice League", the theatrical versions for both movies were disjointed and can ruin the experience leaving you confused and disappointed.

Laurenn definitely needs to watch Wonder Woman after BvS: UE for proper context heading into ZSJL.

The plan by the filmmakers was to eventually bring this Clark/Superman to where Reeves Superman was in the older movies, the brighter, maybe less brooding Superman. He was to become the symbol of hope that Jor-El talks about in Man of Steel. Unfortunately we will never see that now. Man of Steel is imo a masterpiece. It's truly great. The music is also fantastic,

I have been a Superman fan for over 40 years and I almost never go back to re-watch this, but I watch Reeve and Routh over and over again.

The was one of the best reactions for a movie. I noticed that you were invested right from the beginning. This movie is the best Superman movie of all time and Hans Zimmer did an epic job of producing the background score which is on another level. Props to Snyder for having Zimmer on board. My favorite part for the movie is when Superman destroys the world engine. The gravity beam distorts his face and for a brief moment we see it change into Christopher Reeve’s. It’s a brilliant tribute to Reeve. The soundtrack during this scene in particular is just mind blowing

If you didn't notice when he is standing in the beam at the end and his face is rippling under the pressure of the beam his face turns into Christopher Reeves for maybe 2 seconds, when a fan asked the director about it he said, you can't have the man of steel without Super man. If you didn't catch it check it out it's absolutely chilling. As always love your videos reactions can't wait to see what you watch next!

Has anyone mentioned the way Henry Cavill looked exactly like Christopher Reeve in the light when he shot up to destroy the world ending machine? Was one hell of a scene, for people as old as I am, who watched the Reeve originals.

Henry Cavill is the defacto superman of our generation. No one can top the role of Supes that Henry does. Man of Steel with Henry was DC's best film in the last 4 decades by a long shot and they screwed him over royally unfortunately.

I am going to reiterate my suggestion from The Crow. Please watch, The Count Of Monte Cristo (2002). Besides being the greatest story of revenge ever written, over 150 years ago, it is also one of the first movies Henry Cavill ever did, he was around 17-18 years old.

To this day, the best Superman film showing how hard it was for Johnathan and Martha raising Clark, and the difficulty he had becoming who he would be. (Outside of the "Smallville" T.V series). But mos def a great movie, great sets, action, drama..I love the closing scene where the Kents are watching Clark play superhero in the yard...The look they gave each other tells you they knew he was going to do great things in the future.

Although I also like this Lois more than the 1978 imagining (which I grew up with) I've never seen any version of her as a damsel in distress. She is always stronger and more complex than that label implies.

What I took from this movie, because it was co-written by Christopher Nolan, who did the "Dark Knight" trilogy. Just as Nolan tried to say what if Batman were real. In this film, he's saying what would be the world's reaction if all of a sudden a super-powered alien showed up.

Christopher Reeve was always the one and only Superman in alot of people's eyes, until Henry Cavill came along. He did such an amazing job of bringing Superman into the 21st century and I can't think of a better casting choice. The other movies with Henry as Superman are just as good and will keep that smile on your face!! Great reaction 👍

37:04 she's a soldier, probably many years of hand to hand combat training, and weapons, same with General Zod, Clark never had the military training, he's just winging it, using his brute strength to hurl them around. this is one of my favs, same with the original 70's Superman. i hope you watch Batman Vs. Superman as well, i suggest the Extended cut. Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League is the best option as well, if you decide to watch all the MCU films. great reaction! 👍
