Fun fact: Heavy metal got it's name partly because of this song. The verse where he said: heavy metal thunder. Really described well heavy metal and well that's how it got the name.

Nice! Another curiosity is the drums in Heavy Metal was a high influence from Mountain. We can see/hear how they got influenced by Steppenwolf, specially "Born to Be Wild". They drinked a lot from this fountain. This song is among the landmarks of Rock history. That moment when a giant event happens that changes the direction of music forever.

The Kinks predate Steppenwolf by about 4 years for what’s considered the first heavy metal song. You Really Got Me. But they are right in that “ heavy metal thunder” aka the sound of a motorcycle more than likely inspired the genres’ name.

Hhhhmmmmmmmmmm! They did that in Wild Hogs staring Tim Allen, John Travolta, William H. Macy and Martin Lawrence. The president of the Deli Fuegos was Ray Liota and at the end of the movie the leader and the father of the current president of the Deli Fuegos was Peter Fonda. There is also a cameo by Paul Sr. and Paul Jr of Orange County Customs. I think this song also appears in Wild Hogs also as well as Lynard Skynard's They Call Me The Breeze.

Steppenwolf’s lead singer, John Kay, has a pretty wild bio. He was born in Germany in 1944, a month after his father was killed in WW2; his mother fled with him as an infant from the advancing Soviet troops in the brutal winter of 1945, only to get stuck in what became East Germany. They escaped again into West Germany in 1949 (another dangerous trek) and emigrated to Canada a few years later.

I know this song was the first to use the phrase "heavy metal" but the phrase was used before this song in the William S. Burroughs novel The Soft Machine. The phrase "heavy metal thunder" referring to the sound of a group of motorcycles. I don't recall ever hearing if John Kay got the phrase from the book or not.

I first watched this movie at a DRIVE IN theater in 71. After the movie me and 2 friends of mine and me went to a beach in Oregon. We were stationed at Ft. Lewis and ran into a bunch of hippies who stole a pig from a farmers ranch and made a big ass fire under a cliff on the beach. We cooked this sucker 4 about 8 hours into midnight. Some people were still eating till daylight the next day. We had to head back to Ft. Lewis before we got our ass in trouble. Good ole days.

The movie clips are from the movie "Easy Rider" with Peter Fonda, driving the Red White and Blue Chopper, the guy on the back of with Peter is Jack Nickelson (with the gold football helmet), - the same form "The Shinning" and the dude with the stash you referred to is none then the same dude from "Tremors" Michael Gross- played Burt Gummer in Tremors. So now you got a little inside scope. Also quick note, the Chopper Peter Fonda is riding is also the inspired for the movie "Ghost Rider" movie with Nicolas Cage.

Great movie, "Easy Rider". And they did have a destination, they scored big on a coke deal and were going from LA to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

💕Theme song from my teens. Bikers, Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper, pick up Jack Nicholson, a straight laced guy, and take him on the ride of his life. You MUST SEE the movie, Easy Rider. 😎✌

This was the first reference to heavy metal music. You HAVE to watch Easy Rider! It’s an awesome flick. If you pay close attention the guy on the back of the bike is Jack Nicholson.

Man you need to do some history research of the music of this time. Your library of badass tunes will explode by experiencing this time period. This is some of the most iconic music of the vietnam war era. This type of music helped define rock for todays young. This will put a twinkle in their eye of your daddy's & grandpa's. Classic

Fun fact: This song was actually about dune buggies. It didn't become connected to motorcycles until Easy Rider.
