Man-Eating Leopard Terrifying A Village | The Killing Fields: Tale Of The Indian Leopard | Real Wild

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The leopard of India has many faces. It is feared, admired and leaves no one untouched. A lack of knowledge about the life of this elusive cat adds to the threat of its extinction, as many more people are killed by leopards than by tigers. This film tells the stories of a family that lost a child, a scientist that tries to understand leopard's behaviour and conservationists who aim to balance the need to conserve wildlife with protecting people.

    Yes, we all are part of the problem if we have had multiple children. Only those of us that voluntarily limit our progeny to one or two can consider ourselves part of the solution. Preferably one, since so many others reproduce like a virus.

    Exactly. And they are criticizing these people who live way more off the land being more selfsufficient than they ever have. They use the products they produce every day. Coffee, cinnamon, sugar, spices, fruit you name it. Then at the same time they are preaching about population control while they live in cities with millions of people themselves, have kids, buy products from overseas because they are cheapest. The hypocrisy.

    The secret is for humans to put the lid on reproducing. Very simple! Never mind what the Bible says. It was written by a human. Humans have egos. Ego more often than not get u in trouble. I have been married 5 times with 0 kids. It CAN b done by others also. All humans that have babies out of wedlock get taken away & killed. This will put a stop on something. Try it there is nothing to lose. Humans r NOT endependenceable, after all humans r just another animal. What do u think we r. We r not vegetable, we've not minerals. That leaves animals. Give up our ego & we r just the same. Another animal!!!

    I wonder about the catch and release program. These animals don't just "live out there anywhere in the woods". They have territories and boundaries. If you move them you put them into an already occupied area so it is likely that they will return to where they came from unless they can drive out the present occupier, which will itself move to another area. I could understand the hesitancy of that cat being realeased into a strange territory. It's like you becoming a trouble to your wife so she has you released into someone elses already occupied house without their permission.

    Such a sad situation. Medium and large predators often have large territories and can travel vast distances. Shoving more and more of them into increasingly smaller areas also causes competition for food and territory. Jane Goodall once said she would wish there was some way to decrease the number of humans without harm or pain. I agree with her. Humans are taking more and more space for both living and farming, and it pushes animals of all kinds into tight spaces and leads to disaster for both humans and wildlife.

    16:34. The Rudraprayag leopard mentioned here was nothing compared to the Pana leopard and the Champawat tigress, both also man eaters that Corbett dispatched among many others. The Champawat tigress is actually still Guiness record for most human fatalities ever caused by any animal on land. The Rudraprayag leopard was famous because the Media made a deal about it. Even Corbett explained it in one of his books. Also, Corbett hunted those man eaters on foot, no forwarding on elefants or with other ppl. He argued that he felt safer having to care only about himself. He will always be the greatest. RIP.

    @@twinkletwinkle4129 No. Actually the Panar man eater was hunted down way before than the Rudraprayarg one. Chronologically, the Panar Man eater was only # 3 in Corbett's man eater career. 1) Champawatt tiger. 2) Muktesar man eater. 3) Panar leopard. So, if that logic is to be followed then by the time he hunted The Rudraprayag leopard the government body count was actually more accurate than in these prior cases. The absence of India goverment records of man eater killings was prior to 1905 and the Panar leopard he killed in 1901 while the Rudraparg leopard wasn't killed until 1918. I think the mention of the fixation on the Rudraprayag leopard by the press is somewhere in The Temple Tiger book or Man Eaters of Kumaon book. Don't remember exactly, been too many years. But keep reading, you will find it.

    The people commenting about the poor leopards need a reality check… killing maneating tigers and maneating leopards actually INCREASES the odds of successful conservation, as most leopards and tigers are not man eaters. When we let the man eaters live, we increase unnecessary hunting and hostility between humans and the big cats. When we take care of man eaters swiftly, the relations between the wildlife and people remains healthier.

Whether you’re in rural India, a village in Africa or a 4000 square foot tri-level in Marin County, CA….you take your eyes off such a small child for 5 minutes and some type of predator is going to harm the child. I don’t take my eyes off my dogs 🐶 in MI when they go outside to do their business. Children die in such circumstances because of ignorance and neglect, Take care of the children (or dogs 🐕) and then we can discuss philosophy.

My team does this with lions and tigers and some grizzly bears. Set up blinds. With food. And wait for the cats. Use night vision if ya have to. You thank them and out transmitter..same as they do with lions and sharks. Then ya know where the problem cats are always at.

    So Awesome!!! Great information and probably the best documentary I have seen on you tube this far. I still have a profound love and respect for the leopard. There's a reason why it's called the prince of stealth. India suffers a population explosion. India adds an entire population of Australia every year to its census. It's no surprise that encroachment into wildlife habitats has lead to animals and humans conflict. People have entered into their domain and then blame the poor animals for the fatalities. Humans and leopards are both opportunistic predators unfortunately man has the gift of language which can justify his actions against the animals. How can this be a fair deal. The wild life is only reacting towards our actions. If we stop taking away their homes they will stay out of ours. There's enough for everyone's need but there's isn't enough for each one's greed. Nature is telling us to back off but we aren't listening .wildlife clashes is inevitable when the balance of life is tipped off. With a population of 1.4billion people and still growing efforts should be made to control human population and not leopard population. Sterilisation should be made for people mandatory just as you would to an animal .Now that's a fair deal to combat this issue at hand. OR else maneaters should be allowed to do their job of population control. Why should always someone else pay a price for our mistakes?

Just like with the lions and the white sharks that are chips, as an example the alarm will go off when a great white is 1000 yards from the beach. They can set the alarm at any distance once an animal is chipped. Also I think an electric fence would work quite nicely on keeping the Tigers away from fields and peoples houses. Electric fences can be put out quite quickly and are very reasonable. It cost us, my husband and I to put 4 strands of electric fence around 5 acres of land for our horses add a cost of about $250. That is New Jersey prices which are quite high because we are in the New York area. If an animal gets zapped by an electric fence they will not go near it again. Tigers, lions, great white sharks and a number of other animals see in color so if they paint the polls the electric fences on once zapped they will stay far away from it. They are having a lot of success with it on beaches from Massachusetts all the way down to North Carolina for the great white sharks. Also in parts of Africa where they have trouble with hyenas killing their livestock and attacking people they started using electric fence with colored poles and that seems to be very effective.

It would have to be solar and batteries. No mains electricity. And what about when people go outside the fence? And don't forget when you go to the toilet in rural India the toilet is the outside. There's no sewage system or indoor toilets in rural India. Perhaps your idea needs some further thought.

    @@PriscinaSkyy There is no such thing as invading territory or designated area for ourselves or animals. Like borders between countries, a designated area is a human creation. In nature, we all can settle anywhere we want. The same is true with the big cats. If there are conflicts, the fittest survive. This has been the case for as long as there are animals. Now, you may say that we are way overpopulated and this is due to poor leadership with no family planning education. But most of the people from this video are in dire poverty. Struggling to survive is their primary goal. I don't think it is fair to criticize them for protecting themselves against ferocious predators.

  • @PriscinaSkyy

    @PriscinaSkyy

    @@benthekeeshond545 No, perhaps not, but then using the very same logic, no one can criticize the leopard for doing what it needs to survive~ Sure, it may have plenty of forest to hunt behind it, but leopards (and many other predatory animals) will go for the easiest kill, if there is any available. Human children are defenceless - the easiest kill they can have. If we want the kids to be safe, then we as humans with all our technological advances should learn how to protect our lands. You can't expect to walk into a savannah or jungle and not immediately become prey. That's the animal's natural instinct. Instead of blaming it for killing our children, how about we use the advantage that only us humans have and build ourselves better protection before letting people live so close to such areas. Like you said, a designated area is a human creation. But we're not the only living things. We cannot just take all the land and make it ours. We ought to think of the lives we're affecting before we cut down forests and kill all the species that live in it. Also, in nature, we obviously cannot settle wherever we want? It takes time and planning for humans to settle into places that was previously occupied by forests or jungles, which was clearly not done in this case. Whomever designed this compound failed to see the faults in their design. Killing the leopards is not the way to go. We should learn to share the land we have with all the animals that exist as well.
