Leopards Vs. Humans: The Battle for Survival | Real Wild

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This documentary gives an in depth look into the current leopard vs. man battle that is occurring in Sri Lanka, while comparing it alongside man-eating leopard of the early 1920's in India. Unlike the 1920's, the current leopard vs. man battle in Sri Lanka is far less commonplace and more due to a loss in habitat for the leopards. Will humans and leopards be able to share their space in harmony?

    Humans are not a leopards normal prey. If this was true millions of Indians etc last century would've been killed. Leopards fear humans. They become man-eaters because of injury (porcupine quills or wounded by a bullet) and can't hunt normal prey (which is a lot harder). Some Indian leopards became man-eaters as they acquired a taste of human flesh during plague outbreaks when bodies weren't cremated in the bush adequately etc. I've read all Jim Corbett's novels - I well recommend.

    @@darrenmonks4532 I came here to post this. But you have done it without any mistake. 😉🙂 Specially in Sri Lanka the records of man eaters are very rare. Most of the leopard attacks occured here were for there own defence. The only purposeful killing occured at Kumana national park, where leopard killed and dragged away a worker who was clearing a road inside the park. But after the incidence there are no any following attacks on humans. up until now.

    Man-made phenomenon, indeed! How come that in some parts of Africa, wild leopards are habituated to people, even vehicles, and they do not prey on people?! Learn from their experience.

    In Africa they eat people also, Lions and Tigers still practice the ancient art too. Leopards are more adaptable and handle civilisation far better, their wider food range includes pets etc, and they will enter houses to get them. Leopards seem to be more likely to kill and eat humans without being injured etc, which can be the trigger for the larger species to add humans to the prey list, particularly with tigers. It's cats being cats

    How come I have to explain the obvious? The reason these big cats eat people is because when people see one, they run, and that triggers the dinner bell in their heads, when their prey stops and makes eye contact with the cat, they lose the element of surprise and won't attack, these beautiful creatures are just doing what comes natural

    Doesn't explain why they will sneak into a house and take a sleeping child. They understand we are just another monkey, one to be careful around but tastes good. And the occasional leopard has one for lunch occasionally. Not to be mistaken for attacks that occur when cornered, Leopards tend to go onto the offensive with less provocation

For them to survive both needs each other in the wild regretful that circumstances bought them here. Bringing leopards to a zoo is not a good option as I reckon.

    No she does not, that's just a poor fkn excuse to keep them caged up, cats don't lose their instincts, even if you have a house cat, from birth, and kept it inside all the time, the first time you let it out that cat will hunt, if it's hungry, that's why some people get cats, because they're good mousers, and will hunt every last one down

  • @clicheguevara5282

    @clicheguevara5282

    My cats were abandoned by their mother at one week old and never go outside. ..but they can still _easily_ catch lizards, bugs, and mice that make it into the house. One of my cats even instinctively knows how to kill poisonous centipedes without getting hurt - which isn't even easy for humans because of how thick their armor is. Having said that, it requires a very different skillset to catch a rat than it does to bring down a Zebra or Wildebeest - and then have to fight a pack of Hyenas to actually keep your kill. They definitely don't lose their instincts, but instinct isn't everything when it comes to hunting. This is why African mama cats spend a couple years training their cubs how to survive and hunt before 'releasing them into the wild'. I was literally just watching a documentary earlier today about a teenage lioness named Mara. Her mother died before teaching her to hunt and then her pride kicked her out when new cubs arrived. The cameras followed her around as she tried to take on full grown buffalo by herself. She clearly had no idea what she was doing. Her mother was an expert hunter, yet actually died due to injuries sustained during a hunt. It's dangerous business. It's definitely possible that Mara eventually figured it out and survived, but it's by no means a guarantee - especially without a pride to live with. There's a reason that less than 10% of cubs make it to adulthood, let alone old age. I'm by no means an expert, but I've been studying cats for most of my life, so I do know enough to know that there are MAJOR differences between wild big cats and captive big cats. I think that zoos and circuses would definitely have motivation to "make excuses to keep them caged up". I agree with you there. ..but what about all the cat sanctuaries? Those people have dedicated their entire lives to helping cats. The LAST thing they want to do is keep them caged up, but they do it because it's best for the cat. ..and it's different for every type of cat too. They all have different requirements. One of the biggest dangers to cats is literally other cats. A wild lion will tear a captive raised lion apart in 10 seconds. Imagine taking a 20 year old rich kid from the suburbs and dropping him off in the middle of South Central LA. Lol He's gonna get jacked immediately.
