One of the best series I've listened to in a while. Something about the old-world ethics and manners that have now largely gone. You know it's good when the sadness comes because there is no next book.

Really very good 👍 you have narrated so good. You should tell the story of Sundarban tigers. Still in 2021 people do get their life lost in the hands of tigers in sundarbans

What a great story! I wish the young hunters knew better. Tiger is a phenomenal adversary, way better equipped than a human in a jungle setting, easily noticing all the human movement around the kill, and knowing exactly where things are, fully capable of hatching an undetected ambush. A man with a rifle too has little chance. It's only through sheer risk taking ability that these beast are killed.

Very nice narration sir.. enjoyed each and every one of your episodes.. remember reading these tales as a kid growing up in 80s..India should have these as part of their text books to pay homage to Jim Corbett and Kenneth Anderson, who risked all to rid the people of the villages from these man eaters

Excellent point! Indian school boards don't mention Corbett or Anderson at all in their curriculum. Atleast not to my knowledge when I was growing up in India in the late 90s and 00s. While some of these stories may be unsuitable for school kids, there are plenty of other works by them that are worthy of inclusion.

I absolutely love this story.. but it always seems to me that Jim Corbett was more sensitive to the feelings of common Indian villagers compared to other white hunters like Anderson. To them a Britisher's life was more expensive compared to an Indian.

There's a whole section on tiger hunting and links to purchase the title (if available). Additionally, many of those titles are available for free as ebooks on archive.org

Isn't it amazing that he was annoyed that he couldn't leave the Indians bodies out there to sit over but there was absolutely no mention of leaving Todds body out there to sit over.

So Mr Anderson, Mr & Mrs McTavish were disgusted and annoyed that the locals removed the body of thier loved one, not allowing them a chance to sit over it? Maybe should've sat over Mr Todd's remains, am sure Mr Ins wouldn't have objected. Unlike Jim Corbett, there was a definite streak of racism in Kenneth Anderson, which could probably be ignored given the era, if he was half as good as Corbett. Sometimes he was completely unprofessional and sounded as if making things up.

It is interesting how the remains of the english boy were removed immediately, even though he was only half eaten, but Mr Anderson was not happy on removal of remains indian victim at Hollalkere.

Being from Kumaun i have heard many stories about the britishers and their conduct, and most of the times I feel like those officers were much more committed and responsible.

Wonder if Anderson would have let the corpse of his child or wife remain undisturbed as bait. I know I couldn't, nor be angry with any family refusing their loved one be left exposed as tiger bait.

Ronald your ethos is in the right place. Anderson was young when he wrote this and his boisterous enthusiasm and a fair bit of sensationalism is evident in his writing.

Why didnt Kenneth and his companions used that body as a bait,,, oh,, i forgot,, he was british,, The duplicity.....

Lol a grenade for hunting a dangerous animal will leave much collateral damage in its wake, not to mention its impreciseness would be a liability

Interesting that they wouldn't use a white man's body as a bait and cremated it immediately but got annoyed when they couldn't use a poor Indian villager's dead body as a bait and was cremated by relatives. Not surprised!

Whilst I would really have loved to have met Jim Corbett who seems to me to have been in tune with the nature of India, this writer has the air of a typical "Colonial". Superior, entitled and driving around shooting anything he finds, I find it hard to enjoy listening to his tales!

That's right. His earlier books recount incidents that happened while the British were around and there's a hint of elitism and entitlement in them. To he fair, the colonial officers acted worse, he was actually not involved in the colonial enterprise directly. Not everyone could be like Jim Corbett.

This story itself shows the hypocrisy of britishers ironically by an Englishman. I doubt on Anderson's abilities and bravery here.

I understand why you may feel this way. The British of the time thought differently from each other as individuals just as we do today. There are still the untouchable segre8by cast in India by some of their own country men and women. After reading many of Corbett and Anderson's books and some of their old communications with friends I think they did look at things a bit different between them. On the other hand it always appears the people in the country appreciated their presence and the modern rifles.

They may be old tigers who can’t hunt their prey anymore….sorry…I hope the tigers win!
