Some great gadgets there jon, I've followed your lead and got myself a label maker and one of those green mats to use on my fishing desk and to label all my boxes of gear and pole rig trays ect, I'm surprised though you don't have a world's greatest dad mug unless you're your daughter's superhero 😂

Another informative video, well done. Got the matrix hook box and messed up the labels so just used paper labels to write on spread over entire box bottom. Then saw des shipp had cut 4" hook tags out, so I did the same and re done paper label's. Now you show me label maker and I never thought of that! Done the 3 coats of boating varnish on pole floats like lee kerry then added hard as nails nail varnish to that. Wow, fished far side of canal, got stuck and snapped off, float whizzed back to this side, hit bank wall and snapped where bristle goes into body!!!!!! Will wait to see how you get on with paint. Can't wait to get out 🎣🎣

Thanks for this it was very informative. I've never even considered checking the size of my line but more importantly I've also got my dad's old micrometer. It's just been sitting in a draw in the garage doing nothing since sorting out the family home after my parents passed away. So now I've got the perfect excuse to get it out and use it 👍

Being more nurdy than you Jon 😉 I colour code all my shot in my shot box with different colours = white for swan, red for AAA, yellow for BB, etc etc down to number 10's which are blue. Then my wagglers & other floats have tiny little dots of different coloured paints on them, that correspond to my shot box, so I can choose exactly what float I want for a girl situation & and shot it up perfectly without trial & error messing about. It probably hasn't resulted in me winning any more matches, but it's kept me occupied at night when the TV has been shìte 😂

Hi Jon great tips. To check your micrometer is accurate just close it with nothing in between the hardened anvils using the same force you use for the line and look at the scale to see what it reads (should be zero). If it reads +0.01 just take this off any readings. Top work and enjoy match fishing again.

@@JonArthur I've always liked fishing, don't get the chance to do it often and happy to support your efforts here I think we've a mate in common Justin Watkins.
Interesting, Jon. Always good to hear of useful tips. Re the paints you use for float tips etc: I use Tippex as a base and Sensas red and yellow fluorescent paint for tips? Both waterproof and hard wearing. I assume you've tried these in the past?
@JonArthur
3 жыл бұрын
Hi yes never got on with Tippex or the Sensas float paints as they have a habit of drying up too quickly and didn't like the shade of the red coloured one, but I know others that do ok with them.
Interesting with the line and micrometer, I use power line didn't realise it was that un accurate ( is that actually a word lol ) . Another good vid Jon and as me old mum would say "don't wear your hat indoors " 😁
@JonArthur

You'd wear a hat indoors too if you had a DIY lockdown haircut like mine! :-) The word you are looking for is 'inaccurate'!

Thanks Jonny I am a converted pop riveter too . Some great ideas always something to learn. Cheers for another great video 🌟🌟question Jonny would that paint be perfect for quiver tips?
@JonArthur
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Never tried on quiver tips but don't see why not 👍
A bit "nerdy" but I know you'll like this. Line diameters should be "guaranteed" by members of the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA), under their "Line Charter". Some very popular company names missing too. One of the best tips I ever got was to lay all my topkits out (just the top3's) before elasticating them and check the length. Sometimes there was one or 2 shorter or longer than the others, and by swapping the sections around you could get them to be within a couple of centimetres of each other. Vernier calipers could then tell you the bush required when they were cut back.
@mickbrooks8114

Think if you say your line is .12 it should be in this day and age Same as poles
@stevemccrory9130
3 жыл бұрын
@@mickbrooks8114 I always thought it strange for poles to measured at the full length of each section, and not when the pole was fully assembled. 10 pole joints overlapping by an average of 6cm per joint is a loss of 60cm on overall length....sometimes more. Good for these companies to be called out though.
@JonArthur
3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, my opinions of 'Europe' are slowly changing, plus I don't think anyone is obliged to join EFTTA. Agree with laying out the top 2s and the differences you can sometimes get.
Have you tried the third party dymo d1 cassettes you get 7m of label and you can get clear and coloured labels and all for a fraction of the price
@JonArthur
3 жыл бұрын
No but sounds good!
Got the exact same label maker, everytime I remember I have it the batteries are dead, I then spend 10 mins switching the batteries round twisting them in the sled then back in the draw it goes until the next time I remember I have it.

Hello Jon. Hope you don't mind me saying that you should be using the small knob on top of the micrometer for the final adjustment as this should have a very low torque thus not allowing over compression of the measured item giving a false reading. Many thanks for your free to view video content.
@JonArthur
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes that's how I generally use it with the small thumbwheel. However, I also find the main thumbwheel is great for getting a fast 'general' reading and I'm surprisingly accurate when I compare the two methods. Also, because line is a soft material I often like to gauge it by 'feel' as it is much softer than the hard materials people will generally mic up. I have witnessed many people going to the first click with line and still compressing it too much.

To be honest Jon, I think my quest to breed manifestent gozzers and sour bran special hook baits was a waste of time. .... if I was loose feeding squats or pinkies, thinking that the roach/bream would ignore them & prefer my "special" hook bait instead, what rational or sensible thinking would back me up?? .... if it doesn't make sense, then it's dubious rubbish 😊 ❤
@JonArthur

I pretty much came to the same conclusion. My sour brans never wowed me or felt I had a great edge, but still nice to try them

Hi John....Great video ! I mostly use Stroft line.Have you ever measured it up ? If so how does it compare?
I think that "peeing" in your bran, before adding the top of sour milk, to breed "sour bran specials" was a pìss take (excuse the pun 😊) ploy to confuse you & others tbh Jon 😂. The "secret" was/is using the stinky juice left from boiling vegetables, especially brussel sprouts, and mashing the sprouts & getting the concentrate to ferment for 2 weeks before bottling the diamond liquid 😉 ❤

That was a bit cruel Jon, calling me "sad" for using different coloured dots on my floats to tell me exactly what shot to use to set it up perfectly 😨 ..... Actually, it is a bit sad & nurdy I guess, and I should invest in some decent DVD'S when the TV is crap at night, instead of sitting at the table in the evening with a tall vase of water shotting up floats! 😨 .... Or even getting out of the house more, instead of thinking how I can get an advantage & kick my fishing mates arses even more at the week-end?? 😨 ..... 😂😂 lol ❤
