We called them Daddy Ruffes too. I also remember catching Bullheads on our many trips in the day with my father.

I am sure there are monster ruffe in the T&M. I once had one that I had to net on a No3 elastic on the GUC!

Yes I think scavenging ruffe are rarely a good sign of a peg full of other species!

Took your daughters challenge this week trying to catch my first little zander. Was amazed to catch 2 half pounders early in the week & 2 today, with one about a pound. Both on the GUC. Like London buses, never caught one in 50 years of fishing before, then 4 line up .........

nice to see the ruffe jon i remember back in the 70s and early 80s on the north oxford canal ruffe and gudgeon being caught in there hundreds by match anglers on squats with .,aniseed..oil,, catching lots along with perch small roach and the odd skimmer its reversed today with bream skimmers roach perch very few ruffe and no gudgeon ,the latter seems to have succumb to the zander, so great to see those two ruffe .do you ever catch gudgeon ,on canals anymore jon .well great video tight lines and full nets,

Glad it brought back memories. I live not far from some of those venues where 100-200+ gudgeon were commonplace, but as you say they have not survived all the predation :-(
