[MAME] Captain Flag (C)1993 Jaleco

A pirate themed redemption game by Jaleco. This is my emulation in MAME.
The real cabinet features an electro-mechanical torso whose arms mimic the player's vertical movements on two joysticks. See here: • 【ジャレコ】キャプテンフラッグ (1993)
In this video the flags at the sides are not part of the screen, but a simulation of the mechanical arms done with the Artwork system in MAME. Eventually actual images extracted from photos of the cabinet should replace the current crude approximation.
In case you're wondering what the heck is going on in the video... the game consists in quickly reacting to the pirate's voice, who challenges you, in Japanese, to raise or lower one flag or the other. Or sometimes to not do said action:
akka = red
shiro = white
agete/ageru = lift up
sagete/sageru = lower
agenaide = don't lift up
sagenaide = don't lower
A capsule with a price is released when winning the rounds (30-50 correct answers).

Man, the sprite artwork in these jaleco arcades is beautiful
Another wacky arcade game by Jaleco. Originally, the flags were a mechanical part of the game. A good job emulating this.
This game made me rebuild my Japanese skills on whether you lift up or down. I know Aka means Red and shiro means White. Nai means no or nothing.
So is this supposed to be the sister game to Arm Champs II?

Thanks for telling the name of the game. I’ve been wondering what it was called. I guess it was only a Japan only game and they ported it to the U.S. like that. Kind of like when you play the VS series and they just use Japanese sub titles.
So *this* is where Shy Guy Says got started...

i think it tells red flag up red flag down or red flag stays on the same spot . same with the white flag. you must put the flag where the enemy tell you and you get points. like the minigame from mario party

From what it looks like it was a arcade game and there were arms of the cabinet which you have to lift the red and white flags up or down and you have to not move it when the host tells you. Kind of like Simon Says but with flags. I saw this at a Chuck E. Cheese’s back in the 90’s.
