Yes. Til this very day. Not as much as Carol, but still its her niche. No one can out Mama herself. I believe she's even guest judged and portrayed Mama on Rupauls tv show like a couple years ago.

@@styertowneblog111 I totally disagree Shows barely last one season anymore and then they are cancelled. It's been since" everybody loves Raymond and King of queens " since there has been good shows on TV. As far as family feud goes , that isn't a good show to watch with your kids . Don't get me wrong it's a very good show and Steve Harvey does a wonderful job better than anyone has ever done hosting it but there is a lot of sexual questions and innuendos that is not necessary. The questions definitely have gotten more raunchier over the years since Steve Harvey has hosted it. I'm not saying that Steve Harvey's fault I'm just saying as a time frame. In my opinion none of these older shows talked about racial stuff or sex or adult things and they still were much more funnier than anything that's on TV nowadays

Shows what an awesome actress Vicki Lawrence is. I don't know how she did not totally loose it.

Too funny. Now this is real comedy that we do not see anymore.

Who ever thought using character as contestants, brilliant. This was unforgettable. We taped it on beta.

He was my least only surpassed by Dick Van Dyke. I preferred Lyle to Conway. And Carol and Harvey are Queen and King.

Carol Burnett was one of the top two players of Password, the other being Elizabeth Montgomery ("Bewitched"). Carol and Liz were tapped for every single Tournament of Champions hosted by Allen Ludden and were the ONLY two celebrities EVER to be the celebrity guests during these Championships. Two absolutely amazing and brilliant women.

I live in Canada where government forces Canadian content.You can't just buy and nurture talent.Our comics can't hold a candle to the likes of these iconic comediennes. Vicky did a great job on Mama's Family playing mama

Can you imagine these two plus Tim & Harvey (in character) on Family Feud. It would have taken a week just to film one episode! LoL

I remember Vicki Lawrence and Carol Burnett playing on the early 1970s version of Password, as their real selves, but not on the same time. The Carol Burnett show was still new on TV then. When Bewitched was still new, Elizabeth Montgomery was a player on Password alot. She and Betty White were two of the smartest celeb players on it that I ever saw. This game and Hollywood Squares were my two fave game shows from the early 1970's. The 1970's decade had the most variety of game shows of any decade, and that was when there were only three TV channels, at that!

Look at Mama and her sweater! LOL!

Television at it's best! Carol Burnett Vicki Lawrence was comedy geniuses. My family and I would never miss The Carol Burnett Show and Password Plus. Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end. 😍

This episode should be inclued in the complete series of Mama's Family if it ever comes out on DVD.

Real game show with actors from shows in character playing the game. That is META!!!

This is neat! I've never seen this concept, but I like it, of the actors playing a real game as their fictional characters.

Boy those were the days!. Miss them!

Same here... she appeared as Mama on the Bergeron version of Hollywood Squares and she had the same demeanor. Mama is one of the funniest characters on TV... I wish the series would've lasted longer!

Never missed her shows, she is the funniest woman in show business , miss her shows so much !

These people have real talent. I would pay good money to see Momma and Eunice go against Les Nessman and Johnny Fever.

This was so funny when Enuice and Ma Ma were on Password They both crack me up laughing i have depression so when I feel bad or down I watch funny things Carol Vickie are the best out in the Comedy world

She did win a supporting Emmy in the late 70s for the Carol Burnett show. I’m sure some of it had to do with her performance from “The family” sketches.

It's amazing that they did this for a full week.

Carol Burnett Show on CBS will always be one of my favorites. Although everyone was great 👍. Mama's Family still put a laugh 😆 🤣 😂 in my day. I am 63 yo. No matter what they did Mama and Ed knew when Eunice gave them that look and sometimes the tone of voice to BACK OFF !!

This is amazing! Carol Burnett (and Vicki) were the BEST.

I remember this as a kid and couldn't believe they did this.

This was taped via TV. Lol.

To me when they cracked up was funnier than the sketches. loved mrs.whiggens

The original Mama's Family which was just another Burnett Show script assumed Carol would play mama but Vickie blew it away and never looked back.

I used to look forward to this show every week.

Carol Burnett later told the story of how once while she & Vicki Lawrence sat adjacent of each-other on toilets in a public restroom, they did an improv of Mama & Eunice that went so perfectly one would think it had been written & rehearsed. BTW: They high-five'd each other as soon as they were done.

I used to watch this game in the early 1970's, during summers, or if I had the flu.I liked the voice of the unseen commentator who would say "the word is...", and the word would appear on the TV screen.Alan Ludden was a great host on Password.

I have never seen this either. I just stumbled across it & wasn't even going to watch since it was made by filming the TV. Those often turn out to be poor quality videos that are simply tough to watch. I'm pleased that my patience paid off. What a lovely gift! (today is Valentine's Day) I sought out all the parts of this episode & happily watched while laughing out loud and non stop. What fun! Goes to show you, they just don't make 'em like they used to. A big thank you to the original poster.

That truly was the style in the 60s! Women would wear their cardigans with the top button fastened. An alternate way was to secure the 2 top pieces with a 'sweater guard'. It had 2 clamps on a 4 inch chain. I had a gold one! Styles have really changed over the years.

No, not actually. If you listen closely during the intro, Gene Wood says that it's a part of "Celebrity Week." So this didn't appear as a part of either "The Carol Burnett Show" or "Hello Larry." It appeared in its own right in the "Password Plus" television series.

Password Plus was a great game show. It really rewarded cleverness and knowledge. They should remake it.

they did but game shows these days are getting disgusting the one I loved was match game and the Hollywood squares with center. square Paul Lynde and later on shadoe Stevens I know lynde died but watz up with shadoe these days is he still discjockeying on some radio station he was cool in the federated group commercials

My favorite shows are the carol Burnett show mama's family golden girls and murder she wrote also I like the Jefferson and good times these shows are the best to me and will always be i Carly I miss you too girl

I remember another TV character episode of "Password Plus", which included Exidor from "More and Mindy".

I do believe Allan was Betty whites husband . . . . & love how they play the game in character !

Funny, I used to always get Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrwence confused with each other, LOL! They look so much alike when they're not on the same screen.

Vicki Lawrence was such a huge talent. One of those rare people who could do it all. It always seemed to me as if she "flew beneath the radar". She was amongst a cast of older, more recognizable, and more experienced performers, but she still delivered the goods, week in, and week out. It's a pity that we don't see much of her these days.

Thelma Harper = EPIC WIN. Kinda wonder if Vicki Lawrence didn't want to be there like that, but I chalk it up to it being her character's personality. (Besides, Vicki did "Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show", so she obviously loves the character.) And, as usual, Thelma Harper brings that "This feels like a skit" thing to the show. And Eunice isn't helping. Well, now I'll shut up and watch the show. ^_^

Joanna Gleason- the Baker's Wife in "Into the Woods" (1987) - oh, and Eunice and Mama....!

It's almost like the episode where they all played Charades.

This was fun to watch

All the more reason Carol HAS to appear on the Cool Kids at some point this year

I never heard of McLean Stevenson until both Larry AND Morgan appeared on a few episodes of Diff'rent Strokes where Mr Drummond was to take over his show, "Hello Larry."

Krista, do you remember M*A*S*H? McLean was on the first 3 seasons (and the BEST ones, imho) as Lt. Col. Henry Blake, the sorta goofy yet loveable commander of the hospital, the 4077th. OMG, he was GREAT! :-)

I do believe that's Dirk Diggler's mom... Dang good looking back in the day.

When was this aired???? I am a huge Burnett fan, obviously it aired before Luden's death. I have never seen this. Absolutely fabulous!

In the original sketchs on the Carrol Burnet Show and the spinoff network TV version Mama's Family, Mama is played as much more ornery (grumpy old lady). When the network version was canceled and it was picked up as a syndicated show in the mid-80s, they gave her charector a attitude upgrade where she was no longer quit as ornery all the time. Since this gameshow appearance was in the late 70s, this was when Mama was still the 100% grumpy old lady.

Mama had a hard life raising Eunice who ended up marrying Ed. Son Phillip left the brood to become successful. Last heard, he's in Rome with an Italian movie star.
