I saw an interview with Carol Burnett where she said the writers wanted Carol to play Mamma. When Carol saw the script she said "I'm playing Eunice and we're doing it Southern." The writers almost walked off in protest. When they finally did the show, it was such a success that "the writers couldn't write the Family sketches fast enough."

My favorite dysfunctional family! They make narcissistic abuse funny, God bless them all. The relentless criticism, the total absence of appreciation, the complete lack of love and acceptance, the melodrama that evaporates into thin air. I looked forward to this all week. pinz2022 - um, no. Why is it that people always assume that blacks always get their ideas from Caucasians? I am not prejudiced. Tyler Perry got the *"Madea"* inspiration by watching certain older women in his family, and or from Martin Lawrence if I'm not mistaken. However, I believe it's from some of the older women in his family. It is also a fact, reality, and truth that people of color are/were the first humans on this planet, starting in Africa, the motherland. Even "Africa" wasn't the original name of that invaded/colonized continent. Just like other continents, countries, and or islands around the planet got renamed by pale-skinned colonizers.

I just keep thinking how awesome Vicky Lawrence was as "Momma" on Carol Burnett and "Momma's Family" and was younger than most of the people she worked with. I love watching "The Family" on youtube. They were all awesome on the show, but to play an old lady and be the youngest does take talent. Those clips still crack me up.

I'm a 5th generation Texan and I used to watch the Mama and Eunice episodes as much as possible. I remember how my mother and I would die laughing at these skits. They reminded us so much of some of our older relatives and hearing country folks talk exactly like these characters. Carol Burnett was from San Antonio, Texas, which probably explains where she got her inspiration to do these brilliant skits.

Minds me of mine own dearly beloved mom n dad n sis she's only 1 left my folks fought like this every mealtime all the time goin anywhere to a funeral a party out to dinner , it was crazy , life was very hard for them n us , uh What's disfunctio nAl mean all we did was work night and day , to feed many many people , people would stop by at dinner occasionally and literally run away it was funny then, mom would say well what's a matter with them huh , etc etc just so much like Mrs Lawrence and then she'd sit n laff. Laff at her n Eunice n poor Ed , I miss them all our aunt's uncles grandparents so much now , it's funny but it also hurts so much to see theses old shows . It was the best of times , it was the worst of times , til now just really the end of time for n ol guy now just Waitin to go home in another dimension far away .I hope I hope we can get the 60s,n 70s , tv , n rock music there just lower the volume on the hollering .
