Tim did not use that accent in the final dress rehearsal. That was the first time Harvey heard and lost it. Tim was famous for playing it fairly straight in the final dress, then changing things in the second taping that was for air.

They would actually film the show twice. The first time, they'd pretty much follow the script. Then they'd change the audience and do a second taping in which ad libbing, especially by Tim, was encouraged. Then for the broadcast, they'd edit in whichever version of the sketch got the bigger laughs. On some occasions, they'd even edit within a sketch because a joke from one version got a bigger laugh, but the other version of the sketch got the bigger laughs as a whole.

You can tell from the saunter Tim uses, he is going to do his best to get Harvey to crack, and Harvey knows this. This likely the 2nd taping of this skit. Tim always did the 1st take straight from the script, asked the director if he got what he needed and then would riff and adlib on the 2nd take, per Carol Burnett. Tim's goal on this take was to get everyone corpsing and laughing uncontrollably. Very successful hear. I believe Carol said they used a lot of the 2nd taping because TIm would make the 2nd take that much funnier.😂

From what I understand, Harvey knew Tim was up to something and was anticipating something unexpected.... but DIDN’T know that Tim was going to use that voice. The back-stage antics between these two must have been incredible.

@@1FokkerAce I agree..not only is it not so funny any more, but, it has gotten so vulgar. It's considered normal to drop an "F bomb" every other word now. It's no longer clean and family friendly. Carrol Burnett, Lucille Ball, Abbott and Costello (Abbott and Costello are my all time favorites) shows like 3s company ( losing John Ritter was a huge loss. He was a master of physical comedy) will never happen again. Such shame..
