    Oh? Is that him? WoW!!! I grew up watching old H-weird films (mostly silent, Shirley Temple, and musicals), however, day and primetime television programmes during the '50s, '60s, '70s, and earlyy '80s were legendary AF! There were a plethora of cartoons and daytime game shows to keep us "latchkey kids" absorbed when not play-acting our favourite shows like Charlie's Angels, Million Dollar Man, Superman, et. al. outdoors. And then... Atari 2600 and Star Wars, hell, even Apple II/III Mac PC and Commodore 64... (you see where this is going?)

    The difference between Lucille Ball and Betty, was that Betty was charming and humble, while Lucy carried her head high. In one of her interviews she called Desi Arnaz, a loser. That's the kind of thing you just don't do. That's why Betty White was such a treasure. Betty spoke ill of no one. Betty didn't demand respect, she earned it!

  • @tessamoore5165

    Lucy also went through a HELL of a lot more than Betty. She had a very tragic life story. She had a right to call Desi a loser…he was. He treated her HORRIBLY in their marriage. She was abused, cheated on, and gaslighted. She held her head high because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t have survived as long as she did. No disrespect to Betty because she is amazing too. But you can’t talk down on Lucy until you’ve known everything she’s been through.

  • @blueberrycobbler

    @blueberrycobbler

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hanna, you’re referring to the interview that Lucille did with Barbara Walters where she called Desi a loser. You have to listen to what she was saying in the context that she explained it. She stated that he could “win, win, win, high, high stakes - but he had to lose”. Meaning he could build, but eventually he would self sabotage and tear down whatever he created. So in the literal sense he would lose all that he had…his wife, the family they created, business and career as he once knew it. She also explained that Desi himself said he was still the same way at the time of the interview. Don’t be hard on her, it’s easy to recognize in that interview that she was still hurting at the loss of what they had together.

    At first glance I thought Desi Arnaz Jr. was Richard Kline (Larry Dallas from Three's Company) with that hairstyle. Am I the only one who saw that...I did say at first glance

    It's too bad Lucy didn't trust in her talents and break away from the Lucy Ricardo/Carmichael/Carter character for Life with Lucy. If she'd done something more like the Golden Girls with a character closer to her own personality, she could have kept going.

    The public, I think, forever saw her as Lucy Ricardo. There was no getting away from it. Yes, she should have done something edgier along the lines of GG or Mama's Family.

    Lucille Ball and her son went way back with Password. Check out her and her family (including husband, Gary Morton) on Password in 1965. You can't miss the family dynamics in that show. Ball's body language says it all; she adored her son and found her daughter annoying. Desi Jr. was a wiz on that episode. You don't want to miss it! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoGIuK5tc7iuhaQ.html

    If you follow Lucie Arnaz' appearances starting on The Lucy Show in 1962 and especially her talk show appearances, as the years went on she became more and more confident, on the 1965 Password she seems shy and awkward. By the time of the later years of Here's Lucy, she gained much more confidence, especially her musical performances.
