Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The Maltese dog is one of the most ancient of the toy breeds, with a history that can be traced back at least two millennia. Artists, poets, and writers immortalized this small dog in the early great cultures of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. They even were mentioned by Aristotle.
In this video, we are counting down the top 10 most interesting facts about the Maltese Dog.

A quick overview:
Group: Companion Dogs
Weight: up to 7 pounds
Height: 8 inches to 10 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12-15 years
A dog breed who’s gentle and fearless, the Maltese greets everyone as a friend. His glamorous white coat gives him a look of haughty nobility, but looks can be deceiving. This is a sprightly, vigorous dog who excels not only as a companion but also as a therapy dog and competitor in such dog sports as agility, obedience, rally, and tracking. But most of all, he loves to be with his people.
No breed is perfect, and Maltese sometimes are intolerant of small children or other dogs, especially if they have been overly pampered by their people. If this occurs, they can become very protective, barking and even biting if animals or people are perceived as a threat to their relationship with their beloved human family.
Even tolerant Maltese are not a good choice for families with small children, however, because they are so small and can be easily injured. Like all dogs, they must be taught their place in your home, and require proper socialization and basic obedience training.

So true. Unfortunately mine passed away last Thursday and since then I've been shattered. If you told me 15 yrs ago that I would be unconsolable after losing a little 10lb dog I would've thought you were crazy. She changed me so much. I used to be this big 6'4" 250 pound bad ass and now I'm just a big softie and have no shame in saying so.

@@simalozgul596 my dog doesn't shed...I have long hair and there's more mine lying around than his by far....as far as a dog barking when you're not home that is completely based on if you train your dog properly, dogs are very smart and I think malteses are an extremely bright breed at least mine is. That being said they are like children if you don't teach them right from wrong they will not know. Every dog just like every person is there own entity so if you treat them right raise them properly and love them a bunch you should have great results. All I can tell you is this having a dog is a great responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly they are living breathing creatures but for me my dog is by far my greatest joy. If you're ready for one I hope you enjoy him or her but do realise they are something you have to take care of Good Luck!!!

After grieving over the loss of little (Maltese) Toto, I drove for 3 hrs to adopt an older Maltese. He sleeps all the time, with a little tongue that hangs out due to no teeth. He has become my pet that is definitely not a protector, as he only barks when he hears the clink of his feeding bowl. Now an older babe!

Sharing my grief with others who have lost their Maltese children. We had two girls, Rosie (Posie) and Daisy (Maisy). They were four years apart in age and from different birth families but sisters all the same in our family. We lost Rosie in 2014 at age 15 due to diabetes and Daisy will have been gone one year ago this month (May 2020) after being euthanized at age 16 from declining health due to kidney failure. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my canine kids, especially when I see others in my neighborhood outside walking with theirs. At first, I wanted to get another Maltese but realize now doing so would disrespect the memories and wonderful years I had with our girls who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Looking forward to seeing them again one day and not be separated any longer. Thanks for reading.

I feel the same. I had two dogs too. My older sweet boy died of diabetic complications when he was 13. His "brother" was 10 years old then. He got to be 17 for almost 3 months before he died on Dec. 17th of 2020. I was hoping for more years with him. He was so lively until his last couple of weeks. But through it all, he was a trooper. Just like his brother. I miss them so much. There's no way to replace him or his brother.

I feel the same way . These dogs are irreplaceable .🥲 I had my Heidi for 14 years , she also died of kidney failure. She was born deaf & I think that affected her in many ways as she was more hyper than most Malteses i’ve had many dogs whom I’ve hello, but she had such a special place in my heart that I knew I could never replace her. It wouldn’t be fair to try to compare her to another dog so, being an animal lover that I am, I decided I would get a cat instead. Unfortunately I still have to compare this cat with my Maltese & I know that isn’t fair. I guess I am just lucky to have had this wonderful creature in my life. I miss her so much ! 😢❤️❤️❤️

Sorry to hear of all the diabetes of these and other tiny dogs. Wondering which vaccines were given? I' concerned about autoimmune diseases (Type 1 DM is autoimmune) and so I am only having my Maltese get required rabies every 3 years. Also giving probiotics, but wondering what regime others have been on who got diabetes. My Maltese developed generalized petechiae a week after rabies, and as she gets older now I'm on y guard!

I have a picky cat that is allergic to the majority of regular cat food. In result, not only I have to spend a fortune in hypoallergenic treats, but he also gets bored of them, and doesn’t eat all the new ones I buy. So I have to keep trying new ones, just so he gets bored and leave them aside 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️ I donate the ones that he doesn’t eat to a shelter. Maybe you could do the same?

I had a Maltipoo, I got him when he was 15 years old. I took him with me to most of the places and all trips. I even would take him to some of the restaurants (off course places with outside sitting) he would stay put on the chair, never on the floors. He was so well behaved that he was almost unnoticed by others. His grooming was done monthly and at home I kept up with his hygiene daily. Due to his age he got completely blind and he fell the bed getting hurt. Took him to a Vet who prescribed a medication which killed him in less than 2 hours.

My last one was Franklin , a little 6 lb Maltese whom I loved dearly . There was the strongest bond I ever had . He lived to 15 in good health until the last few months of his life. He loved to go on the 5 hour drive to my daughter's in East Texas . He'd sleep on the way and must have recognized when we got into town , because he'd wake right up and watching out the window as we made the winding turns to her home.

I call my dog security, because he follows where ever I go, he comes in between my husband when my hubby shows me affection. He barks when we are playing around(We got our Maltese when we started dating). He’s defiant, smart, funny and inpatient he has a love hate relationship with my husband. I tell him to stay in the bed when I go down stairs, I can hear him walking near the stairs, because of his bell. Whenever he hears me walking near the stairs he goes run to his bed , like he was their the entire time.

I had my first perfect joy little boy maltese for 18 years. I waited 17 years to get him when I first fell in love with the breed. Then the next was a little girl and she lived 17 years. It was with her that I decided to raise them so got another little boy and girl and raised them for 8 years. And at one time had nine of them. There were all a total joy. They live a long happy healthy life. They are devoted little companions. The one fact that you left out is that they were also known to be temple dogs and healers. And they do have this wonderful capacity to absorb negative energy and transmute it. I no longer have maltese or any dog . But they live on in my heart. As the song goes .. Maltese were my first two dogs. I believe in having a minimum of two dogs. That way they have canine companions and are not alone. I got a male first. He was in a local pet store and came from a family that has a lot of champion Maltese. This was 1992 and the puppy mills were just beginning to send them all over the country. Two years later I got a female. They were both spayed and neutered so there was no danger there. They were happy, healthy pups and lived into their middle teens. I actually was looking for a female poodle and they suggested a Maltese. I picked him up and he kissed me. That was it! When I brought the female home she desperately tried to get the male to play. His nose was out of joint for the first two days. On the third day he was laying on the couch and she jumped up and got a hold of his beard. He looked at me and I told him it was a good idea to go with it. He jumped down and they were off and running doing puppy zooms. They were so much fun. The only downside to the breed is the expense of a groomer and lots of brushing. I have had six dogs since then and miss the Maltese. The first few years I could not see a Maltese puppy without tears. Now I finally can look and not feel the pain. Queen Elizabeth II said that grief is the price we pay for all the love we receive. I agree

I had a Maltese years ago. She was so darn smart! Her name was Nia. When my daughter was little, Nia was bought for her. I am serious the day I taught her to play dead & the 1st time she did it ... SHE HELD her Breath!! How in the world she knew to do that!? Nia also began helping my daughter with chores of pushing the under the sink trash. The trash can was on a sliding wire container. One day after school my daughter had taken the full trash bag out from the container then replaced it with a clean bag Nia was setting there watching as she did every time the chore was done. This day my daughter ask her Nia, Do want to help me? She stood on her back legs pushed the wire basket back then jumped behind the cabinet door & pushed it shut! I could go on & on about Nia & the absolutely amazing things she would surprise us by doing. She has been gone for many years now.. But I still miss her so. I want to get another Maltese. But there will never be another Nia.. R I P little girl.

"My Toby" my sweet, angel Maltese was my Best Boy! I loved (love) him so and he returned that love a thousand fold in so many ways! He was so very very gentle, and so fearless too!, When our older dog who became cranky would bark, almost snap at Toby when he walked by, Toby would just stroll around again, right in front of him! Yet, as stated, gentle as a lamb! My Toby developed epilepsy, and suffered so! One evening into the next day, he suffered so many seizures, he was "just a shell," the vet told us. To this day I miss him still and it's been over two years! They steal yr heart, so please, please, God, let All Dogs Go To Heaven. I read once we grieve for our furbabies often the same as for people in our lives. This is due to "people connections" being complicated very often, and not so With Our Furbabies!!! Long live ALL YOUR FURBABIES!!! GOD BLESS US ALL, THEM TOO!!!!!!!!

I had a Maltese and she became more than my bestfriend she became a child of mine I couldn't live without. She was handed down a rough life she was abused by her previous owners, blind on both eyes had a tumor on the side I had to put her down this year on April 7th and to this day I still think about her. :(

My Maltese hates to be picked up and gets angry if you do pick him up. Otherwise he’s a cute happy dog, socializes with other dogs likes to walk and play allot. He’s also really smart. Knows exactly where he left his toys and lets me know when he needs to go outside.

We have had three of these sweet pups. They are the best watch dog you can have. They also have long memories. If you do something with them just once and they liked the activity they will try to get you to do it again. Maltese understands who’s turn it is. If we are giving treats to three dogs our boy Baby Cruz watches and if you go out of turn he has something to say about it.

My ‘baby’ is almost 12 years old and just as sparky as when I got her at 10 weeks. She uses a litter box (yes, you can train a dog to do that) and doesn’t care for being on a leash and going for walks. She likes playing in the yard around the house though. Love her as if I gave birth to her.
