I'm so sorry I lost my Taz in 2005. He was also a maltise. I love him still today and miss him so much. I didn't get another puppy until 2012. Her name is Tess she is also a maltise. I love this breed. They are smart and so funny and my little Tess is such a boss. It takes time to get over the loss of a pet especially when they are family.

Yeah, I've had my Maltese for 13 years now, my father doesn't like big dogs or shedding. She follows me everywhere and likes laying on plush soft objects, she is old but she still has energy like a puppy and they really are very docile dogs. She doesn't like cuddling but I understand that that's just her personality. And she gets excited when we have guests.

My Maltese is super shy and doesn't like to play with others. He's very affectionate and cries whenever my sister or mother isn't home. He's a funny dog though 😂 and loves to sit underneath the table when we eat, hoping for a scrap lol. Love this little guy ❤️

I understand your sorrow, Tracy.and am so saddened for your loss. We were blessed to have been adopted by 13 wonderful and devoted dogs thought out our 57 years together, and now it is so quiet and lonesome here without their checking out the UPS and Fed X drivers, the mail carrier, the pizza delivery guys, the opossums, raccoons, and squirrels! It was something all the time. One sweet and thoughtful dog was named Dixie. We had brought Happy home still woozie following a surgery, and she checked him out, sniffing, and the then wanted me to let her out In a few minutes she was back, bearing a huge bone she had buried a day or so before and dropped it down front of Happy and then laid close to him, watching over her friend the rest of the night. She didn’t even bark! She was such a good nurse! I miss her and all the others dearly. Don’t we feel sorry for those people who haven’t known the devotion and intelligence of our fur babies? Living in my heart forever are: Boots, Spot, Happy, Elektra, Chelsea, Bucky, Happy#2, Dingo, Dixie, Sonny. along with 4 sweet feral cats which tolerated the dogs from time to time, and kept me supplied with moles, mice, lizards, chipmunks and the remains of various ‘chef’s choice’ birds. Who knows what the future might bring? I’m writing a letter to Santa Claus. Guess what I want? You don’t think 83 years is too old, do you? I send you and others all wishes of good and wonderful times together with those you love especially your fur babies! May your days be merry and bright and God (Dog :spelled backward)) bless and keep you safe and well. Sincerely. Liz in Alabama 🐶 🐾 ❤️ ❤️🐾 🐶 Merry Christmas!

I've had 2 Maltese in my life and they are some of the sweetest and most intelligent dogs I've met. We got really lucky with both of ours. Our last boy passed away in 2020 when he was 12 and it was heartbreaking. He was so intelligent and VERY human, like a grumpy old man. He only gravitated towards my dad. These dogs tend to do that I've heard, pick a person and then grow attached to them. But that's not the case with our current puppy. Our current Maltese is still a puppy and he's the complete opposite of our last dog. He's lively, a HUGE extrovert, and he loves tormenting our cat. He's incredibly sweet and if he were human, he'd probably be an innocent little boy who tends to break the rules a lot but you can't stay mad at him because he's just that adorable. One thing the two of them share is they love to cuddle and be close to you when you sleep. Get a Maltese because they are just- aghhhh. Like they're so soft and if you've never seen a Maltese puppy in person, you're in for a treat if you end up getting on.

Mine was the smallest of the 3 in the litter. I wanted a tiny gentle, passive dog, female, (as the household already had an alpha male dachshund.) . The other 2 in the litter showed signs of being more intelligent than my baby, and it was a tough choice., She is passive, such as she quietly looks at me instead of barking to go out. And if I ask where she is, she will shake (as if wet) bc ot makes a noise! But she will bark if soneone is at the door, or if she thinks I will leave her w anyone. She is w me almost always. She also does not seem to know how to play in the way most other doga do,including her sibs, but she so wants to engage as part of the group. I aaw another site that said Maltese inelligence was average to low, so I guess she is one of the lows! Her sibs seemed average to high. But she is super sweet and adiorable, she has her own ways of being smart And she loves to chase herds of deer, so no pushover.🌷🐆

Mine is mostly a maltese, and she is so sweet, active and smart. She loves to be pet and to cuddle, especially when we're indoors. Outdoors she loves to walk and run and explore. For her, 2 walks wouldn't be enough so she usually gets 3-4 walks, but when we're on vacation we hike a lot so sometimes she's outside with us the whole day and she loves that. She is friendly, tho now she's matured (she's 3 and a half) so she only plays with a few dogs. Doesn't bark a lot, but even if she does, she isn't allowed to bark at random dogs and people, and she doesn't do it😊 She knows about 15-20 commands including tricks and she's so smart and loves to learn. Overall, she is an amazing little girl and I love her. Tho she has separation anxiety and that's a struggle. But she's a proof that small dogs are amazing and they don't have to be these annoying, lazy barking dogs if they have an owner who treats them right.

I have had two Maltese dogs. The old one was extremely intelligent, stubborn, lazy and thought she was the boss of the house and we were her servants. (She was amazing, the things she'd do to punish is if we didn't do her bidding were hilarious) My new dog is a bit of an idiot in comparison, extremely active and just wants to be with us always. They are both amazing dogs, but completely different in every single way. So I don't believe you know a dog's (general) personality by knowing the race anymore. :)

A maltese was brought to a pet hotel and left there as the owner couldn't keep up with him. My parents came in a week later to drop their dog off for the weekend. Brought him home and they've been so happy ever since.

I took in a maltese from a rehoming/rescue center, that was no longer wanted by the owners. aged 6 at the time, he has been difficult suffers separation anxiety, terrified of loud bangs, cost a lot of vets bills at the start of our friendship as all his teeth were rotten so had to be removd, his diet was also a huge problem at first, he was very naughty with toileting and he still "attention seeking" pees if I am occupied. Will drop a poop in a corner if he is in a temper. But after 4 years of careful love and management , huge vet bills and regular grooming he is a delight, but very demanding and my social life has evaporated to go where i can go with him along side me. My lap is his bed, and woes to me if i put something on my knee while he is occupied by a toy. Got to love my Maltese lol.

He was a mess when I adopted him but after about 2 years of love and care, he looked like a show dog! He also passed away from Cushings Disease. I cried and cried... it’s so cruel. I also had a toy poodle when I was younger. I call them “My Three Sons”. They each were sweet, loving, intelligent & so darned cute! I want a Maltese girl but my grief at this time is so deep, so I must wait until I can give her my full attention and love.

I, as an Aussie kid, grew up around Kelpies and Cattle Dogs (Heelers) then my parents got divorced and Mum moved back to inner city and got a Maltese when I was 10 then another a couple of years later. The first lived to 20 and the second one to 18. Lovely dogs though strong willed and unfortunately a bit too clever for their own good sometimes! One took on a water dragon that was near the pool and lost an eye over the fight and another got Cushing's Disease but both were very loved by myself and family. Even my mates loved them after they got over how small they were!

My puppy, a maltese, is very playful and heart warming, and its also a girl!. She is so attractive and boy, i cant keep my eyes off of that cuteness. She can be sooooo active and even sometimes, she would wake you up at 3:00 am to play!, anyways, you cant say no to her huge puppy eyes which are dark brown and filled with joy❤️,but she can be aggresive too, like she will bark at us at night, partly because she now Knows its gonna be her bedtime at any moment. Well, she is also an bad genius!, she herself is a all so why Not slide your whole body through the gate!, yes she did that several times. If you have a puppy like mines, please make sure to like my comment! ⬇️

My maltese has serious issues. He spends most of his time sleeping. When he wakes up he licks the air or his boy parts often. God forbid you have to leave him home for a little while he acts as though we’ve been gone for days. So we usually leave him with someone in the house. He is very stubborn and a picky eater. But on a positive note he loves to run around in the yard and spend lots of time sniffing around.

My parents inherited my little bloke when I had to move. He was the boss of the house & loved them to death. He was a great watch dog & happy to sit with them until they moved & he had to be beside them. He knew when I was visiting as he could hear my car arriving & was protective of our neighbours' home too. Highly intelligent, he knew when it was bath time & would hide from my father but after his bath would run through the house or yard like he was being chased. Sadly missed by 1 & all.

I lost my Wirehaired dachshund Ghormosh on 25 August and my best friend on 30 November. She committed suicide. Actually I have no idea how to handle this loss .Sometimes I cry ,others I just feel completely losst. I am very very sorry for your loss! Just know that time helps a lot. Always a good thing to plant a tree and bury their favorite toys and other things. I did it and cried for a week! But now I'm better. And I look at the tree every daiy. I planted a tree for my mother and father as well Stay strong!!!!!

Maltese is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, bred probably around 6000 BC. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans knew and valued it, as evidenced by numerous images of the dog on ceramics and wall graphics. Many historians believe that the race originated in the Mediterranean Sea near the island of Malta. However, remember that the name of the breed does not refer to its origin, but to its frequent occurrence on this island. In the old days, Malta was a strategic trading point due to its advantageous location - close to Italy, from where the Maltese could travel to the rest of continental Europe, as well as to the Middle East, China, Japan and the Philippines. The word Maltese comes from the Semitic language. 'Malat' means 'bay', 'asylum'. Its root appears in many indigenous and island names, such as Meleda and Melita. According to other historical sources, the breed may come from Asia or Sicily.
