I wouldn't say that his life there was worse than living with Lois or the academy, that's debatable. The true lesson is that he couldn't blame anyone but himself. He choose that life.

To be fair, it was also Eric's fault. He should've warned Francis while he was in jail in the Alaskan town not to far from Mamu that the job was going to suck and Lavernia is much worse than Spangler.

I think Francis had the best character development of anyone on the show. Started out as a punk kid who never fell in line, but by the end, was a mature, responsible, hard-working adult.

@@alexG106He was already ruined by the midpoint; they made him too happy and the ranch ran out of story. He didn't have anything left for the other seasons without ruining his life for a bit while the other kids caught up.

The ranch was supposed to stay in season 6, but Kenneth Mars left the show because he was suffering from pancreatic cancer at that time. Had he been well, the original season 6 plans for the ranch would've gone as planned.

I came here specifically for the part when Eric breakdown, sad but absolutely hilarious.

I used to hate when he cried, but now I realize he DID deserve to be ditched in the season 3 finale. Besides I liked Spangler better than Lavernia.

To be fair, it was Eric's fault. He should've visited Francis earlier while he was in an Alaskan jail not to far from Mamu. Eric should've warned him to turn around and go back to California at once. How Lavernia is worse than Spangler due to her knowledge of her workers' and loggers' bad habits in a debt book she keeps under lock and key. The only good thing about Francis's time in Alaska was meeting, falling in love and marrying Piama.

the lock is only spring loaded, it's not a deadbolt so they can just get something thin and slip it in to push the lock in and get out. Difficult to do from outside but on the inside where the lock is facing it is easy.

I’m just gonna say yeah, he hated Alaska a lot more than military school. I think the only time that he was actually truly happy was when he was living on autos Ranch working as a ranch hand with. Piama

Both. Francis hated Marlin Academy because Lois shipped him off there from a combination of him piercing his nose, burning a neighbor's car and getting arrested by the cops. The only good thing for him was that Spangler was not that strong and he can be beaten. Hence, Francis took advantage of his annoyance by challenging his authority, being rebellious and causing infractions. He hated Alaska more because not only Eric failed to warn him about the job sucking, but also Lavernia is much stronger and can break her workers emotionally with her knowledge of their secrets and her debt book. The only good thing about Alaska was that he met and married Piama out of love. She was the only one who wasn't afraid to take Lavernia on and hit her at her hardest by kidnapping her precious pet parakeet. She made it clear to Lavernia that if she doesn't treat Francis much better, the bird dies.

After seeing this, I didn't feel quite so bad about trying to make it in Colorado in the 2000s.

Francis picked the wrong job. He needs a real job. I don't know what jobs are there in Alaska. Alaska is a different story and outside the country.

Also one thing: Since youre such an expert, you should know that Inuit arent actually the group most common in Alaska and never were, its several different groups, belonging to the Yupik, none of which are Inuit obviously, Most of which would prefer or actually decided being called Eskimos. And they usually find it quite insulting being called Inuit. Of course the council of Inuits prefers the term Inuit though, because well... why wouldnt they? It fits them, so who cares if it insults other native tribes. Your people are not that innocent in suppressing others by speaking for them
