Malcolm Guite’s Hope for Hurt Christians

What does hope look like for the American church as political polarization sparks division and many evangelicals are leaving the pews? It might be found in the words of the British “Poet for ‘Bruised Evangelicals,’” Malcolm Guite. The poet, priest, singer-songwriter, and professor joined Russell to talk about truth, imagination, and illumination.
Guite and Moore discuss how they know the Christian story is true, depictions of the gospel in art, and what it means to learn to love. They talk about the power of stories and imagination. Moore asks Guite to share his thoughts on the transfiguration passage in the New Testament, which Guite explores in his book Lifting the Veil. And they talk about how to begin reading poetry for those who don’t know where to start.

Malcolm - I would not have been able to hear these words and see your face as you said them ...... without technology. How ironic. :) I am so very blessed and en-couraged once more, in the battle against despair. My deepest appreciation, brother - thanking God for you. And thank you too, Russell.

I cannot thank you enough for this interview. I followed Malcolm Guite's YT channel for the last few years and all I can say is that I have been enriched and blessed by his poetry and thought world. Russel Moore, thank you for being a great listener-interviewer and bringing about such a rich exchange of ideas. I need to watch this video again, this time with pen and paper. Thank you!

Russell Moore is one of my favorite Christian thought leaders. Until today I didn't know that he is also, like me, an unapologetic fanboy of Malcolm Guite. Thanks for a most stimulating conversation with one of the church's, nay, the modern world's, most erudite and accessible Christian "imagineers." 👏

Very fresh and open view of Christian practices not confined by rules and more rules and a wonderful teaching on reading poetry from a truly great poet. (40 min mark)

When he talks how matter isnt solid and the mysterious of it was fantastic. Also i like how he says the different creeds etc wont look that different from gods view in heaven. Christians are set of putting differences between them with their interpretations and rules. Jesus is truth thats all that Matters

Great interview! I feel like somebody has to get Malcom Guite and Jordan Peterson in a conversation together! Would be great to listen in on a conversation where their respective intellectual and imaginative angles towards faith intersect.

Malcom dwarfs Peterson intellectually, not to mention their ideologies are quite different. I don’t really see the value in hearing this conversation. I think a conversation between Guite and William Lane Craig would be much more intersting.

And I wholly disagree with you, Nash Williams...the "who's intellectually superior" game between those particular two is irrelevant & slightly absurd that's where your mind went with the proposition. Malcolm & Jordan talking at length, regardless of subject matter, would be an amazing conversation to behold.
