    Leoman gets a pass from me. Dude decided to live instead of dying along with the doomed rebel cult he was roped into but never wholly bought in to. He even evacuated the civilians, and while he didn't include Corabb in his planning he did offer to take Corabb along before vamousing. So many great scumbags in the series 😆

    I hated Clip and Olar Ethil so freaking much! I don't get all the Felisin hate, though. Not from the main series but I really despised Hunn Raal and Syntara, too.

    Leoman did actually ask corab to go with him, but corab had just realized the depth of betrayal leoman had just committed and refused him. Then he tried to save the children and met Fiddler and became part of the story.

    I think that's more of a convergence thing. A lot of characters get shaped by circumstances in such a way that when convergence comes, they're at the right place at the right time and know exactly what to do. That goes for every convergence, but you can see it a lot in the last three books.

    Great list. I would include Laseen at 3rd spot and Malik Rell in the 4th with the others going down a spot. Korbolo was his tool so imo, Malik deserves responsibility for the monsters actions. Other than that, he wanted to sacrifice the Wicans to save his ass. His redeeming quality was taking out the traitorous, power-hungry and hypocrite that was Laseen. Laseen on her part was just so idiotic in her desitions and was responsible in great part of the Paran tragedy. Because of her I lost most of the respect I had for Dujek when he tried to justify her stupidity and understood how superior Iskar was to him and why the soldiers loved Iskar so much more than Dujek.

    Much agreement with everyone mentioned on this list (including the honorable mentions). I hate/dislike them all too. For me, Malick Rell and Korbolo Dom top the list because of what they did to Coltaine and the 7th, but also because they never pay for it. At least not in the main series. I really despise Karsa Orlong too, even later down the line when he does useful things and is not just an obnoxious bragart. And Kallor. Oh my god, Kallor. I know some people find mitigating circumstances for his utter vileness, but I just can't see any redeming qualities in this character at all.

    By the end of the crippled god Kallor is shown to be a truly tragic figure. The curse of the elder god's doesn't let him change even when he knows the right thing to do it doesn't allow him growth.

    Yeah, I can pretty much agree with this entire list. While there are a few characters I might hate more, or might have been more disappointed in (*Cough,Redmask,Cough*), most of them were only around for a short while before they died like the monsters they were. Though I would personally put Triban Gnol at 3 (He's... he's Bidithal without the sado-masochism being explicit) and take Clip off the list (ultimately for me, he was a minor antagonist... and he's just so sassy. Even if I have to say fuck him.) That said. *Spoiler warning* To be fair to the Errant, he kinda gets corrupted by an insane amalgamation of ambitious spirits, and had a revival of his dying ambitions and desires. Before that, he was content with fading and had been becoming disillusioned with all of the games and power struggles. But also, fuck the Errant. To be accurate, he's also the god of rulership, and more of a Master of the Holds, Setchul Lath is more of the OG god of luck. Less about fortune, more about shoving people into places that will benefit the Errant's desires most. Their powers just complimented each other, which is why they made such a good pair. But also fuck the Errant.

    @@gracelesspassion1750 Typing this for the THIRD TIME BECAUSE MY ROOM MATE KEEPS RESETTING THE INTERNET WITHOUT WARNING ME. Honestly, at this point we would see that confrontation in the Witness trilogy... and it seems much more likely that Draconis will get the fuck first. Like, as cool as it would be to see them actually fight, Draconis swore vengeance on all of the people who freed Korabas, and he killed Kilmandaros first, and Draconis isn't going to just stop hunting the man. Even if the Master of the Deck and the Master of the Holds do fget to fight, it really seems like that would just give Draconis time to catch up and gank him. Oh. And another reason to hate the Errant: He got Setchul killed off. Setchul was only there out of love for his mother and loyalty to his friend, and he gets killed for it despite even Draconis knowing that and hoping that the poor lad would simply get out of the way to let the elder god do what had to be done. Oh, and ANOTHER reason to hate the Errant! He released Korabas, knowing full well what it would do. Knowing FULL WELL that it risked creating Tiam. Knowing that thousands upon thousands of lives would be lost no matter what. I also wonder if any of your choices would be changed based on the characters in the Karkhanas books. Because *oh boy do I hate Skabandari even more... and Hunn Raal takes up spot 8 and kicks Leoman off the list.*

    Wtf are you talking about? Leoman was an dock, but he everything he did he did to GTFO. HE didn't "make" anyone a fanatic. He inherited a bunch of fanatics. He explicitly stated that he was just a bodyguard and didn't ask to be a leader of the apocalypse. He didn't contrive to get Coraab killed. He offered for Coraab to join him in escape, but Coraab refused. Y'Ghatan was his way out. He set it up as a trap so he could rid himself of an army of fanatics while giving them their Apocalypse and faking his own death at the same time. He did a lot of horrible things, but they were always the actions of a trapped person desperate to live past the Apocalypse.

  • @gracelesspassion1750

    @gracelesspassion1750

    I agree with some of your points, but disagree with others. Leoman was absolutely a true believer in the Apocalypse in order to get revenge on Malazans UNTIL Sha'ik gets killed under his watch. That's when he becomes disillusioned. Him explicitly saying that he was "just a bodyguard" doesn't really mean anything given his actions in the past in support of the rebellion, especially since he's a liar. Sure, he didn't "make" anyone a fanatic, he just purposefully made a trap that would kill everyone that was fighting under him, and drugged the had the suicide bombers consume drugs to help them be in a fanatical state. I don't really care that he wanted to be free of the army, that is a massive betrayal when in a position of command, and something that I personally find reprehensible. Obviously, part of the emotion I feel towards Leoman is heavily colored by Corabb's perception since we see it from his point of view. Corabb is one of my favorite characters so I'm not going to like someone who lies to him and abandons him. Based on Leoman isolating from Corabb to get with Dunsparrow, he kept the escape a secret from Corabb until the last moment. Of course Corabb would refuse, and Leoman knew it. Sorry you disagree, but I'm going to hate Leoman for these reasons. I understand WHY he did it, doesn't mean I need to respect his reasons.

    Exactly how did you miss the part that explains The Errant's change? He got too close to the deamon trapped in the ice and was corrupted by it's ambition and lust for power. Didn't Mael say this outright?!? He is a masterfully written tragic character. What makes me hate him is the things he didn't have to do, killing Trull Sengar and Brys Bedict

    Where exactly did I say his change is unexplained? He was already lusting for power before that, the godling just tips him over the edge. Tragic characters are supposed to have sympathetic or even virtuous traits, and I personally don't find any in him. He is definitely well written, I really enjoy how much I dislike him.

    I hate Seren Pedac. She's not evil, she's just so repulsively stupid and self-destructive. She whines throughout two whole books and accomplishes nothing. She is so useless and worthless. I hated her chapters. If I re-read I will skip as much of her as I can.
